Xujiahui used to be one of the earliest places for Catholicism to spread in Shanghai. It could be traced back to Xu Guangqi, the senior official in Ming dynasty. He might also be the first Catholic in China. Then he invited a foreign priest Guo Jujing to start preaching in his hometown Xujiahui and since then there were more and more believers. Afterwards, the Society of Jesus established a church in Xujiahui named St.lgnatius Cathedral of Zi-ka-wei. As Catholics increased, the churchmen decided to build a new church, known as Xujiahu Catholic Church today, which is a typical French Gothic architecture of masonry structure with twin-spires. Two 57-meters-high bell towers face each other north and south with two crosses on the spires into the sky, which is amazing.

Xichang satellite launch center( or Xichang sitellite space center ) was built in the early 70's, officially opened in November 1, 1984, is the only open high-tech space as tourist attraction .the Center has a test launch, command and control, tracking and communications, weather, technical service support system, it can launch a variety of satellite, after 20 years of construction, has become the world's top space launch site. it is China's first launch center. The launch site is located in the city of Xichang in the territory of 60 km north of Mianning County in the valley, with an average altitude of 1500 meters.
Xichang Satellite is mainly used for launching geosynchronous satellite launch, but also the sun synchronous orbit satellite and low earth orbit satellite.

In 1990, the center sent the USA manufacturing Asian 1  satellite into a geosynchronous transfer orbit

"There are three superior conditions of natural emission field": 1.the low latitude (28.2 degrees north latitude), high altitude (1500 m), emission angle,  a short distance from the equator ground to air, at lower latitudes, closer, which can make full use of the centrifugal force of the earth's rotation, and can shorten the ground to satellite orbit distance,  in order to save the rocket effective load.
