We visited Guilin, China in September 2012 and hired Richard to be our tour guide.  Richard planned a wonderful itinerary to help us make the most of our short visit.  Richard arranged for us to visit the Jingjiang Prince City to learn about Guilin's imperial history.  Then we toured the city by boat to see Elephant Trunk Hill and the many beautiful waterways and gardens that fill the city of Guilin.  We enjoyed an evening performance of acrobats and dancing at the Dream Like Lijiang Show.  Richard speaks very good English and shared many stories about his home city.  The next day was phenomenal as we traveled south of the city to cruise the Li River and see the beautiful karst landscape.  Dennis arranged a fun battery car ride in Yangshuo to allow us to experience life in rural China.  Then we visited Shangri-La Park and enjoyed a beautiful boat ride and learned about the culture of the Miao and other minorities of the area.   Richard's guide fees were very reasonable.  He took very good care of us and made our visit to Guilin special.  We consider Richard our friend and I highly recommend him as a tour guide.

My family visited Guilin together with my Chinese relatives from July 1-4, 2012.  Richard was our guide for two days in Guilin.  I started to plan the trip in early May.   I had taken my kids and my relatives to visit Beijing and other cities before; I did not like fixed itineraries and hated shopping stops arranged by travel agencies.   So this time, I wanted to hire an independent guide who would give us flexibility.  I did some online search and found Richard through synotrip.com.  I had a few e-mail communications with him before I hired him.  I was impressed by his enthusiasm to show us his hometown, and his indication (quote) “everything can be resolved by discussions” with regards to our tour itinerary.

Richard greeted our party of 16 people (with age 6 to 74) at the airport.   For the next 4 days, Richard took us to attractions in Guilin city, day trips to Yangshuo via Li River cruise, and to Longji Rice Terrace.   Our party was demanding: diverse in age, language and culture.   Richard was very helpful and accommodating; he did his best to make everybody happy.   He is very good with children.  We enjoyed our cruise on Li River very much; hiking along Longji Rice Terrace was fun too.

I want to particularly mention two occasions that Richard was very helpful (beyond a guide’s responsibilities).   My relatives wanted to buy a special fruit to take back home.  Richard offered to ride his own motorcycle to buy the fruit at a distribution center to save money and brought the fruit to our hotel.  We had a memorable 4th of July celebration in Guilin thanks to Richard.  My two children were missing the fireworks on 4th of July back in the States.  So we wanted to buy fireworks, but there were no places in the city selling fireworks at the time.  Richard rode his motorcycle and went to outside of the city to buy fireworks, and he helped us celebrate the 4th of July on the bank of the beautiful River.   My children had greatest time; they wrote about the spectacular fireworks after they returned to the States.

Check out Richard if you ever visit Guilin!

My cousin and I visited Guilin in October of 2011 and used Richard as a guide during that week. We traveled during the first week of October, which is a heavy travel week in China. He was absolutely phenomenal. He was very flexible and accommodating for all aspects of our trip. He knows the area very well and we went to both popular tourist destinations and places that were clearly lesser-known. His English is very good and should not be a problem. His prices are reasonable and he was flexible in finding cheaper forms of transportation if we so wished. He was very knowledgeable about the culture and history of the area and was capable of answering the many questions we had.

Before we arrived in Guilin we discussed the itinerary with him and made several changes, both to save some money and to see some less touristy things. He delivered on all counts and when I go back to Guilin or surrounding areas, I will most definitely contact Richard again.

Richard was our guide for two days in Guilin.
The first day came to the hotel by taxi to take us to the Jetty and take a speedboat on the river toward Yangshuo, we visited the village and after  riding by bike,  he took us to see a local home where we were received for a lovely old woman.
The second day took us to the Longsheng area and enjoyed more than the first day.
Richard is very polite, friendly and reasonably priced.

He speaks fluent english and clear so we hadn´t  problems in comunication.

Yesterday i was just back from guilin . that is the end of my trip . i have book richard as my tour guide and i am proud to be his first Malaysia tour  ,and i am very happy to know him as my tour guide  . Guilin is my first  trip to China mainland , before this ,i heard alot of bad trick from those china tour and travel company that china tour guide will force people to buy thing from the shop and spend alot of time doing shopping but if u book richard tour ,that is totally different!  he is very friendly and his tour arrangement is focus only on places of  attraction . no shopping no mass tour . that is something i am looking for!

Richard can understand simple english and i can communicate with him in mandarin or Cantonese. he is friendly and helpful . the tour price  that he quoted me is reasonable and satisfying  . i go with parents and my parents can easy communicate with him as well. he take good care for my parents .

Every morning,he will bring us for breakfast . and he provided mineral water so that u don't get hydrated with the hot weather , he even help me to buy the international converted after i told him that i forget to bring to charge my camera battery and i dont know where to buy it.

Richard Tour is nothing lose on you , u gain more than lose . his caring ,friendly ,and helpful make our tour very comfortable and he bring us to those places that i have never expect him to bring ,that is the extra point from the tour where u can't experience it from those travel company.

Our family of 4 (two older teenage kids) spent 2 days touring with Richard. Even before meeting Richard, he was very prompt in replying to our emails and was able to arrange and book our hotel for us ahead of time. He met us promptly at the airport with driver and van and even serenaded us with a traditional Chinese welcome song on the way to our hotel. The highlights of our tour was a great bamboo raft ride up the Li river, cycling the backroads of  Yangshou , interacting with local residents and close encounters with the local Panda bears. Throughout our trip, Richard was careful to make sure we were comfortable and well taken care of. At the beginning of each day, he provided us with a list of the anticipated expenses so there would be no surprises.

I would not hesitate to recommend Richard to anyone who is in need of a guide for their visit to the Guilin region. I am sure he will work hard to ensure you will have a fantastic time.
