Richard was our tour guide for 3 days in Guilin.  He is very good.  His English is excellent and easy to understand.  He knows a great deal about this history of China, specifically of the areas around Guilin.  He is punctual, professional and we enjoyed his company.  I would recommend him highly if you are planning a trip to the Guilin area.

We recently went to China and spent 3 days in Guilin. We wanted to explore the area ourselves but have booked Richard for one day to hike with us in the Longji Rice Terracess for a few hours which was amazing. Richard was a great tour guide who gave us great insights into the area and was very knowledgeable. He knows what travellers want (no shopping tours and mass tourism) and did also give us a lot of useful tips for the days we explored the area ourselves. I can highly recommend to book his services.

In October 2011 we used Richard as our guide to visit Guilin and the surrounding areas for 4 days. Richard speaks good English and is very knowledgeable with regards to the area's history and culture. Although an initial itinerary was agreed before our arrival, we were free to make adjustments to it as we went along. Richard didn't have a set number of hours for the tour and stayed with us until late at night when it was necessary. Richard also made sure that we didn't fall into any of the many tourist scams that exist in China. Overall, we were taken care of very well. I'd recommend Richard to anyone traveling in the area.

On Sept 5-7 2011 my wife and I had Richard as our Guide in Guilin.  We spent 2 wonderful days to include a trip down the Li River where my wife was able to take picture of wild life to include water buffalo and then one of the best bicycle rides we ever had in the world.  Richard took us to the real China, where we rubbed elbows with the the real people.  Also on the economic side, their was no surprises.  Richard kept the cost down, in meals we had to buy.  Furthermore, his van was very comfortable and roomy.  Since our tour with him, we took a short 1/2 day tour in Chengdu (where we are staying and I am teaching at a Chinese University) in which the mini van was terrible and needed shock absorbers. 

Richard knows Chinese History well and also does not go beyond his professional boundaries.  For sure if you have Richard for a guide, ask him where his name came from. It will bring you to tears.

We both loved Richard and made a real Chinese Friend.  You will also.

In November, 2010, we used Richard as our guide to visit Guilin and the surrounding areas, including The Li River, Yangshuo, the terraced rice fields of Longji and Huanglou.  He was very informative with regards to the history of the land and was great at explaining the sites throughout the entire tour. He made all the arrangements and we felt very well cared for.  At our request, we climbed up the mountain of the terraced rice fields, from top to bottom.  It took us about 3 hours and was very challenging!   He was never concerned with how much time he spent with us, no matter when the plans for the day ended.  He even returned to our hotel one night to bring us some goodies!  We would highly recommend him to anyone visiting the area.
