Yangshuo Yulong River

Yulong River is the biggest branch of the Li River in YangShuo County. The clear water runs smoothly past fields,farmhouses, trees and mountains. Traveling by bamboo raft you will be surrounded by the crystal water and feel relaxed and happy in the arms of the green mountains. Looking from the mountaintops, you can see a vivid panorama of the landscape with the green crystal water flowing through the colorful valley below.

Longji rice terraces – A must-see sights in Guilin!

Longji rice terraces also called Dragon's backbone rice terraces. As the slope of the whole mountain looks like Dragon's backbone while overlook from the mountain top. Longji rice terraces is one of the most famous rice terraces in China even in the world. The entire terraced rice fields covers an area of 66 square kilometers and with an elevation from 380meters to 1100meters above the sea level.

Tourists could be immediately attracted by these amazing terraced rice terraces once entered the rice terraces scenic area, These remarkable rice terraces were firstly built by the local Zhuang people and Yao people begin from Yuan Dynasty (AD 1279-1368) and finished at Qing Dynasty(AD 1640-1912) which with a history of 600 years from generation to generation. These rolling hills were covered by the rice paddies is really incredible as they wrap around the hillsides and flow down the valley. It also shows how did the local people try their best to make the most use of the scarce arable land and water resources in the mountainous area.

The best time to visit Longji rice terraces is from Late spring to late Autumn(May –Oct),In spring, When all of the rice terraces were irrigated,These rice terraces looks like thousands of layered mirrors by the reflection of water. In summer,The rice terraces looks like the vast of green grasses because of the bright green rice plants. In Autumn, It looks like a golden ocean while the rice plants turns yellow. Hence,Different season,Different scenery, it has been fascinated with by lots of photographers year after year.

Longji rice terraces is belong to Longshen county, It's 28km from Longshen county seat and 90km from Guilin city, Tourists could take an express bus to Longshen county from Guilin Qintan bus station for 2hours,The tourists could get off the bus at Heping town which on the way to Longji rice terraces,Then switch to another local bus to Ping'an village from Heping town for 30minutes.

Guilin Rice Noodles and its legend

Guilin is not only famous for its natural landscape, but for its age-old rice noodles nationwide. It represents Guilin’s food culture. When you are lingering every streets in Guilin, you can see many shops selling different kinds of rice noodles, such as beef noodle, pork noodle, horse meet rice noodle, three-fresh(pork, pig’s liver and pig’s oviduct) noodle, sour and hot noodle, river snail rice noodle and so on.
Guilin Rice Noodles, according to its making procedure, it can be classified into 2 kinds, namely Mifen(米粉, shaped in round and string) and Qianfen(shaped in flat slab). Mifen is row squeezed, while Qianfen is ripe steamed. The main ingredients are rice, beef, pork, horse meet, and the auxiliary materials are bittern water, bone soup, peanuts, pickled vegetables, chives, chili and garlic. Each shops serve the rice noodles in its own taste, because they have different recipes in their own bittern water, the famous ones are the Chongshan Rice Noodle, Youyixue Rice Noodle and Qingyun Soup Rice Noodle.
There’s a legend about Guilin’s Rice Noodle which goes like that, about 2,200 years ago, during the reign of Qinshihuang, the first emperor of Qin Dynasty, after making the unification in the whole country, to recapture his lost territory in southern China, he dispatched 500,000 of his military troops to make the southern expedition. After arriving in Guilin, almost all the warriors felt uncomfortable, for they had no appetite and lots of them got ill and had loose bowels. The reason is that the warriors came from northern China, they were not suitable the food in the south, just like the old saying, every place has its own way of supporting its own residents. Later an imperial chef found out a solution, he thought that all the soldiers came from the north, they used to the food that made from wheat, like noodles, mutton and bread pieces in soup, and something like somewhat. While in the south, the main food material is rice, for the northerners, after taking the rice, it’s not easy to digest, they got sick, for their bad bodies condition, they lost their combat effectiveness in the battles, so he finally invented rice noodles and the recipe for the bittern water, thus the rice noodles came into being. This great invention helped the emperor recaptured his lost territory. Since then, the rice noodles were very popular among the locals until nowadays.
Mao Dun, a very noted Chinese literary master, during the anti-Japanese war, he completed his famous novel “Maple leaves are even more red than blossoms in Feb” in Guilin by on credit the rice noodles. Li Zong Ren, the late vice-chairman of KMT, he won his election by serving Guilin Rice Noodles to his supporters in Nanking in 1948.

According to the Chinese traditional , full moon is a symbol of family reunion and things work out with a happy ending. When there's a beautiful full moon hanging in the sky, lots of people will come out for making wishes and enjoy the full moon view. In the ancient time while people suing lantern for a portable lighting device. There would be thousands of lanterns with different shapes in the street and made a spectacular view for the night. Eventually , it turned into a huge lantern exhibitions and one of the must things to see for Chinese on these days. Hence the reason, Yuan Xiao Festival is also called Lantern Festival. On this day, we will eat Yuanxiao, which is a kind of glutinous sweet rice ball. After eating Yuanxiao, we will go out with family or friends to celebrate Lantern Festival and enjoy those colorful lanterns with beautiful shape. In my Hometown Liuzhou, there's a big Lantern celebration every year. The people from all the factories or company will make their own lantern and show it to their people in Liuzhou. What's more interesting, there's lots of schools joined in the lantern exhibition, you can see some of the cute lanterns make by students. Some of the students are only 5-8 years old. It's a very interesting thing to do if you are in Liuzhou during the Festival.

Day 3. Sanjiang-Longji Rice terrace. Stay in Tian tou village.

Rice terrace was built in Yuan Dynasty, finished in Qing Dynasty, over 650 years history. in this village, the people are Yao Minority,the old women still keeping long hairs. it's the customs of Yao minority and it symbolize of longevity. Yao people built the wood houses along the mountain. wood houses are keeping the harmony with the nature.

Day 4. Longji-Yangshuo, stay in Yangshuo.

From Longji to Yangshuo, on the way will visiting Yulong river, and do bamboo boat rafting. Yulong river is a beautiful river in Yangshuo.

Day 5.Yangshuo countryside tour,Moon Hill, Banyan tree park, airport.

Rice Terraces tour, meet you at 9 am and drive to Rice Terraces, visit Dazhai village( Jinkeng Rice Terraces) They were first built in the Yuan dynasty and completed in the Qing dynasty by Zhuang people. The terraced fields are built along the slope winding from the riverside up to the mountaintop, with the highest place of an elevation of 885m and the lowest 380m. You will find nice wooden houses, long hair women with colorful clothes, heavy, silver hat and earrings, customs and lifestyle.

Day 5:   Longji rice terraces to Sanjiang Chengyang Village ( B/L/D)   Stay in Chengyang Hotel
With its unique Dong minority architecture of Drum Towers, Wind and Rain Bridges and Dong minority buildings, you can see wooden houses, river, waterwheels, villages and so on.

Day 6,   Sanjiang---Tangan village-- Zhaoxing    ( B/L/D)    Stay in Zhaoxing Hotel.
Tanan village: You will find beautiful rice terraces, village gate, drum tower, drama tower, ancient graveyard, ancient well, and water-powered roller for grinding grain, barns and the pit to worship the female ancestors of Dong people. There are also ancient stone paths and wood houses in the village. Zhaoxing is an old Dong village deeply hidden in the dense mountains. Drive to Xijiang village, the biggest Miao village in China , a 1000-households village, in Leishan county, 75km from Kaili, surrounded by green hills and blue waters, rows upon rows of pile dwellings stand in the bamboo forests on the mountain slope. Famous for its Silversmith craftsmanship and Harvest Celebration. The local silversmiths have unique craftsmanship for silver ornament making. All the silver ornaments that a Miao girl puts on weight about 9 kg.
