Yangjiajie Scenic Area is one of the must-see attractions in Zhangjiajie. Yangjiajie is located in the southwest Zhangjiajie, next to the Tianzi Mountain. Few people knew Yuanjiajie ten years ago. But world knows Yuanjiajie at present. Thanks to its splendid natural scenery. It is a sacred scene that enjoyed the same fames of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Suoxi Valley and Tianzi Mountain.

Yangjiajie consists of three parts: Xiangzhi stream, Longquan valley and Baihou valley, in which there are altogether over 200 scenic spots. At Xiangzhi stream, one sees undulating peaks extending into the distance and limpid brooks winding along the deep gullies, and hears birds and cicadas singing in the dusk along the ancient roads, it is a land of peace indeed!

Yangjiajie has much to do with the aristocratic Yang Family in Song Dynasty (960-1279), whose three generations of members, both the men and women, were faithful patriotic generals or soldiers on the battlefield. It is said the in the northern song dynasty the generals from the yang family camped in the Tianzi mountain when they were encircling and suppressing Xian.Their stories often appear in Chinese TV series or films, such as the film Yang ka cheung. In Yangjiajie many scenic spots are related to the stories of the family.

What to See in Yangjiajie

► Five-color Flower in Liucui Stream
Have you ever seen a five-color flower? You can find this kind of plant in Yangjiajie Scenic Area. According to some researches, the five-color flower can be seen in the upper reach of Liucui Strem.

► King of Vine in Old Vine Bay
There is a spot called "old vine bay" in Yangjiajie. It is a kingdom of old vines. And there is a king of vine here which is called "the largest vine in China"!

► Cliff Pine Tree
It is a strange scene that three pine trees are living in a cliff without soil and water. People would like called this scene as "pine trees bit cliff".

► Dragon Spring Waterfall
Dragon Spring Waterfall looks like a hanging waterfall falling down from the heaven. No matter how hot you are, you will immediately feel cooler when you are standing in front of the waterfall. When you feel a little cold, you can walk into the pool of this waterfall. Since that, you will feel a warm breeze.

► White Crane Lawn
White Crane Lawn is a rest place for white cranes, thus it gets the name. If you have a chance to appreciate white cranes here, you will find a life of Shangri-la. The best time to enjoy scene in White Crane Lawn are morning times and evening times. In the morning, white cranes will spread their wings and begin to fly with dulcet tweets. And in the evening, white cranes come back with the dusk scene as the background. They will play with each other for a period, and then, become quiet gradually in the night.

Yaozi village is famous for its dangerous precipices and cliffs, even the “Yaozi”(the forth tone), can not fly beyond it, hence the name Yaozi village. Yaozi, in Chinese, is a bird of prey. Because it appears as a huge “Kidney”, Yaozi village was formerly named “Kidney village, As a matter a fact.

Golden whip stream is praised to be the most beautiful valley in the world, it is famous for the fresh air, so called "oxgeny bar", a survey shows that it can make your life 3 seconds longer if you take breath in the golden whip stream for one hour. in 2006, When visiting Golden Whip Stream, the vice-governor of Colorado, USA, Nancy Dick, remarked that" the air in zhangjiajie is so fresh that it worthes 5 dollars for each breath". It meanders 15 Li. Flowing from Laomo Gully first to Confluence of Four Rivers then to Suoxi Stream, it finally joins Li river, one of the four rivers in Hunan Province. It flows between steep grotesque peaks and luxuriant trees. Here, the meandering streams, the crystal-clear waterfalls, exotic plants and rare animals co-exist and constitute the extraordinarily beautiful, tranquil and natural ecological environment. No wonder it is called "the most beautiful valley in the world" and "the most poetic stream". The major scenic spots include Rock of Welcoming Guests, Golden Whip Rock, Reunion Rock and the Purple Grass Pond.
The major spots along the stream include:
● Golden Whip Crag
Golden Whip Rock is a representative among the countless strange rocks in Zhangjiajie. It stands between mountains. The marvelous shape is looked like the military arm whip, thus its name.
● Fish Jumping Pool
Fish Jumping Pool is a pool cause by the pulling stream. Stream flows from the higher place to the lower reach so that there is a pool made by the power of the water. During the spawning time, fish will swim to this pool and jump joyfully, thus its name.
● Wenxing Rock (Literature Star Rock)
There is a rock called Wenxing Rock which means a star in the literature field. Because this rock is looked like the figure of Lu Xun, a great litterateur in Chinese history, so people title this rock into Wenxing Rock.
● Yingbin Crag (Welcoming Crag)
This crag is looked like a person who is smiling to entertain visitors. And the cliffs between this crag just naturally shaped as a opening door. From this scene, visitors feel being entertained and waited by host.
● The Grave of Zhang Liang
On the platform under Boliu Crag in the Golden Whip Stream is the Grave of Zhang Liang, who was the Marquis and the military counselor during the Western Han Dynasty (206 B.C- 25 A.D.).The legend goes that he lived as a hermit in Wulingyuan Scenic Spot after he had helped Liubang be the first emperor in the Western Han Dynasty (206 B.C- 25 A.D.) and he was buried here as well. Now the Grave of Zhang Liang becomes one of the most important culture relics in the Golden Whip Stream.

Badagongshan Area is located at the one of Zhangjiajie's counties. Sangzhi, the whole area covers about 45 thousand acres,and is the one in the first  group approved by  the provincila govenment as the Nature Reserved Area in 1982, and in 1998,it's been listed as the 1 of 200 globally important eco-area rich in different and rare species of plants.
