Located in the northwestern part of Wulingyuan Scenic Zone, Tianzi Mountain Nature Reserve boasts rocky peaks in grotesque shapes and shrouded in drifting mist. There are many scenic attractions, such as the lofty Imperial Writing Brush Peak, Fairy Maid Scattering Flowers, and the Mid-Air Farmers’ Cottage. The highest peak is 1,260 meters (4,130ft) above sea level and provides stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Waterfalls, bridges, stone forests and caves are found throughout the mountains. There are not just beautiful landscapes, but also simplicity, peculiar folk custom and local folk food of special flavor awaiting the arrival of visitors.

The landscape here varies in different seasons and also in one day, which makes Tianzi Mountain a very interesting destination. There are four highlights for the breathtaking sceneries: peak forest, cloud sea, sunrise and winter snow. Cloud and mist in Tianzi Mountain enjoys high reputation nationwide, especially just after the rain, which adds much charm to Tianzi Mountain.

Tianzi Mountain has four scenic wonders, namely Cloud Billows, Moon Brightness, Sun Glow and Winter Snow. The cloud billows are ever changing, morning and evening sun glows vast sky, moon shines in the still night, winter snow falls enchanting the scenery, like a lyric, like a landscape painting. Here in the Tianzi Mountain, scene majestic is in all its variety. There are five main scenic zones and over ten scenic spots in the Tianzi Mountain area. They include more than 80 natural platforms to take in the magnificent scenery. Highlights in Tianzishan: Helong Park, West Sea Stone Forests, Divine shrine and Immortal Bridge. 6 tourist areas have been built to accommodate visitors and they include more than 80 natural platforms to take in the magnificent scenery. Visitors can also reach the peaks of the mountain by cable car.

West Sea Stone Forests

Situated in the west of Suoxiyu Valley, it is a basin-like landform with a collection of peaks and woods. In this sea, numerous peaks stand with different shapes and poses, covered with lush vegetation. Therefore, it is called sea of trees and sea of peaks. In spring or summer or a clear day immediately after a rain in autumn, the clouds are surging and rolling like waves, covering the whole sky and earth. The view is so magnificent that it is called sea of clouds. The combination of the three seas is the characteristic of West Sea. In it, Gate to Heaven and Sky Terrace are wonderful scenes.

Shentang bay (divine shrine)

Shentang Valley is also named Shentang Fort. It is a gorge shaped like a huge basin walled by lofty precipices. The bottom of the gorge is veiled in mists and clouds all day, adding to its mysteriousness. As the saying goes, the most beautiful scene is seen from the most perilous peak. There are almost no roads to Shentang Valley, only a quite dangerous flight of stairs that is as wide as a foot being available. Local people say, Every step kills one soul. In the center of the bottom lies a fathomless green pond. Looking down the pond from the mouth of the gorge, one cant help shivering. Whats peculiar is that visitors can hear sounds of gongs and drums, neighs of battle steeds and shouts of men echoing from the bottom. Nobody can give a reasonable answer to this mystery. Therefore, Shentang Valley was a forbidden place in Wulingyuan and a puzzle for hundreds of years.

● Project Implementation and Stage Design:

A Fox Fairy of Tianmen Mountain – the New Story of Woodman Liuhai is unveiled against the background of a valley measuring about 5km in length stretching from the mountain gate of Tianmen Mountain scenic spot to the top of Tianmen Mountain, with altitude difference of 1100m. The main stage is built at the lower end of the valley in the mountain gate; tens of extraordinary mountains alongside the valley as well as the towering Tianmen Cave are the profound background of the main stage. The main stage blends with the valleys, wonderful mountains, forests, streams and waterfalls to form a super-large stage measuring several kilometers in depth and over a thousand meters in width and height difference.

The auditorium and main stage occupy a total area of 19880 m2. The panoramic stage made of glass steel occupies an area of 10000m2, which is transparently bright with lighting effect to form a fantastic scene. The performance areas are divided into five parts: central stage, mankind's world on the left, fox's world on the right, the singing platform in the front left and the live-action of terrace and timber bridge at the back.

The central stage is built on a brook with an inverse ancient tree floating on bubbling stream to form an integral live-action stage together with protruding stone bed. As to the mankind's world on the left, many Tujia wood huts with black tile carved windows and wooden fences are built along the mountains as stage art landscapes. And these simple wood huts are connected with each other to form a distinctive village of western Hunan. In the fox's world on the right, bizarre rocks are built amid forests, and rare flowers and grass are embedded to form a fantastic natural fox paradise. In the singing platform hanging on a hill, more than 100 girls wearing traditional costume, silver adornment and silver bells of Tujia Rthnic Group sing to offer people with wonderful aural enjoyment. The live-action of terrace and timber bridge with rich pastoral characteristics at the back echoes with the village from afar. The whole stage is natural as if it has been standing there for thousands of years at the foot of Tianmen Mountain to tell a legend.

In Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon, the plunging waterfalls, the dense trees, the fresh air, and the mist on the stream make you feel like you are in an otherworldly sort of place. A spring meanders in the canyon, along which are trails built with planks. On the way, you can see the longest and highest glass bridge in the world as well as the karst landform in the north temperate zone. You have to walk for over two hours to visit the canyon, so remember to wear sports shoes and bring some food. You are recommended to start at the top of the canyon and move downhill, the following attractions coming into view successively.

A Strip of Sky & Sky Ladder Plank Road
‘A Strip of Sky’ is a narrow valley through which only one person can pass at a time. The valley is over 765 yards (700 meters) long with a drop of 985 feet (300 meters) from the beginning to the end. After passing through the valley, you will see Sky Ladder Plank Road. This road is very steep and the planks are narrow, making it look like a sky ladder. Walking along it for three minutes, you come to the best place to see the entire ‘A Strip of Sky’.

Southern Red Flag Canal
The canal is 3 feet (1 meter) deep and 3 feet wide, but over 6 miles (10 kilometers) long. It directs the spring from the lofty cliffs. The excavation took local people seven years, and many of them sacrificed their life for it. Thanks to the canal, residents of eight nearby villages have water to drink and irrigate the rice fields.

Tip: There is a skidway made of granite slates among the A Strip of Sky, the Sky Ladder Plank Road, and the Southern Red Flag Canal. It takes you only 3-5 minutes, 20 minutes shorter than walking.

Glass Bridge
Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge, built with 99 sheets of glass, is 470 yards (430 meters) long, 6.6 yards (6 meters) wide and 985 feet (300 meters) high, the longest and highest glass bridge in the world. Unlike the Zhangjiajie Tianmen Mountain Glass Bridge, which is inserted on the mountain side with a height of 4,690 feet (1,430 meters), Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Glass Bridge hangs over a valley. It provides a superb panorama of the entire grand canyon. Standing on it is like floating in the air. Come and have a try if you are brave enough. There is also a rope line nearby, which surely excites your nerves.

Please note that visitors need to book a ticket for the Glass Bridge on its official website at least one day before the visit. Only those who qualify for ticket discounts can buy the ticket on spot. Valid ID certificate like passport is required for purchasing the ticket.

Some Tips for Walking along the Glass Bridge:
1. The bridge may be closed if the weather is bad.
2. High heels are not allowed on the bridge. One can only bring a cell phone with cover and purse while walking on the bridge.
3. Do not run on the bridge or stand against the rail.
4. Those who have heart disease, high blood pressure and acrophobia are not recommended to set feet on the bridge.

Barrel Cliff & Flying Fox Rushing Downhill
The cylindrical cliff is neither chiseled by human nor eroded by waterfalls, and only grasses grow on it with no trees.  Geologists and botanists cannot explain why. Keep moving 10 yards (10 meters), you can see the Flying Fox Rushing Downhill. On the cliff, a big rock gets in the running waterfall’s way and the water forms a rock cover, which looks like a fox rushing downhill.

Pearl Wall & Waterfall of Butterfly Spring
The spring flows slowly downward along the cliff on which lots of plants grow. Then it forms many pearlescent crystal droplets on those plants. Thus the cliff is called Pearl Wall. After two minutes’ walk, the Waterfall of Butterfly Spring comes into view. It flows past trees and lawns, and butterflies dance there every day, giving it its name.

Swallow Cliff
There are thousands of swallow nests on Swallow Cliff. These rock swallows are smaller than ordinary ones and do not nest in houses. Their nests can be cooked and eaten.
At the end of the canyon, there is a reservoir where you need to take a boat. Ducks play on the reservoir, you may also see egrets flying past.
