Tai Qing Gong is a Taoist temple originally built by the Qing dynasty emperor Kangxi in 1663. However, it didn’t receive its current name until 1779. The temple is not large, and visitors may only spend about 20-30 minutes inside, but some of the designs and painting on the exteriors of the buildings are very intricate, quite impressive, and very well preserved/restored. Furthermore, entrance is only 2 yuan and it’s located just a couple blocks from
Middle Street and the
Imperial Palace, so you can conveniently include it in a day of shopping and/or sight-seeing.
Location: The temple is on the west side of Xi Shun Cheng Jie (西顺城街) near the corner of Bei Shun Cheng Lu (北顺城路). It is 1 km east of Government Square, and 1 km west of Middle Street. Ask a taxi driver for “tài qīng gōng”.
