Green Mile Pub

Over the past few years, this small pub has become one of the most popular stops for many foreigners in Shenyang. The Green Mile Pub has teamed up with "NYPD Pizza", and now offers the best pizza to be found in Shenyang! The bar is not huge, but it's extremely popular with expats and locals alike. It has a laid back atmosphere, friendly staff, good (strong) cocktails, and great pizza. They will also deliver pizza for orders over 100 RMB. Other food on the menu includes calzones, sandwiches, and chicken wings.

Local beers: 10 yuan. Mixed drinks: 20-40 yuan. Pizzas 30-160 yuan

Location: The pub is just west of Government Square [1], and just southeast of North Market on Yi Wei Lu (一纬路). To find it, first go to the intersection of San Jing Jie (三经街) and Shi Fu Da Lu (市府大路). Yi Wei Lu is a small road just south of Shi Fu Lu. The Green Mile is 100 meters to the east of San Jing Jie.

Sunny Night Club

The newly remodeled (May 2008) Sunny Night Club is one of the largest, and overall the most popular club in Shenyang. It is packed with people pretty much every night of the week, and attracts Chinese customers, as well as foreigners from every p...

Since the 2008 remodeling project, Sunny’s has a unique layout. The club is actually separated into two bars. The larger section now attracts mostly Chinese customers and features a stage show with Chinese and Filipino singers and dancers. The smaller bar, unofficially known as “the foreigner bar”, is located near the club entrance. This bar is meant to be more suited to foreigners’ preferences, and has already become an extremely popular late-night stop for many foreigners. From about 8pm-midnight the Filipino musicians switch back and forth between the two bars. From about 11-midnight, the “foreigner bar” switches between the live music and several different DJs. After midnight it’s all dance music, and the bar can get very crowded.

The new Sunny’s is quite an improvement because the club now can appeal to a variety of different tastes. If you like techno music and late-night dancing, this is the place to be. Now, it’s a also a good place to have a relaxed drink or two if you come a bit earlier in the evening.

The new bar now has a wide variety of foreign and Chinese food.

Costs: There’s no cover charge. Beers and cocktails start at 25元。

Location: At the corner of Ba Jing Jie (八经街) and Jiu Wei Lu (九纬路), a few blocks east of Zhong Shan Square (中山广场). All Shenyang taxi drivers know "wǔ yè yáng guāng."

Mulligan's Irish Pub

Mulligan’s is proof that Irish Bars can indeed be found everywhere in the world. Mulligan’s has a dark, dusky atmosphere, which is likely consistent with what one would expect from an Irish Pub in Shenyang, China. The bar features Filipino singers from Monday to Saturday starting at 8:00pm. The Pub also has two foosball tables, an available private room, and a giant screen TV for watching soccer matches, NBA playoffs, etc. Mulligan’s is one of the more expensive bars in Shenyang, as it caters largely to foreign guests staying in the Holiday Inn or Crowne Plaza Hotel. However, there is usually a good mix of travelers, Shenyang expats, and Chinese guests. Lenbach Restaurant and Lounge ("The German Bar")

Known by foreigners as simply “The German Bar”, Lenbach is a fairly new addition to Shenyang. It’s a clean and comfortable place with a very nice atmosphere, a decent selection of German food, and of course German beer! The beer selection is very reasonably priced has both draught and canned beers. There’s also a huge variety of imported wines and liquors. The food menu is reasonably priced and includes sausages, steak, salads, etc.

All in all, whether you’re looking for a quiet drink, a nice meal, or you want to party with a group of friends, “The German Bar” is a winner.

Location: On the corner of Ba jing jie (八经街) and Bei si malu (北四马路) half a block East of the President’s Building and one block north of Sunny Night Club. Ask a taxi driver to take Heping Da jie (和平大街) to the President’s Building (总统大厦 zǒngtǒng dàshà), then go less than two hundred meters east and you will see the bar.

Knight Leader Bar

Knight Leader has maybe the best location and setup of any bar in Shenyang. It’s one of the only bars in Shenyang with outdoor seating and a large patio area. The patio borders Zhongshan Park, and there are no neighbors, so it’s free to play music outdoors at night. The decoration inside the bar is American Wild West themed with Indian headdresses, cowboy hats, etc. adorning the walls, and saddle-style bar stools. Drinks are fairly cheap, there’s a pool table, and there are two levels with plenty of seating. Despite its uniqueness however, Knight Leader has never really gained the popularity that it deserves. There’s usually a handful of customers, but sometimes it sits nearly empty, especially M-Th.

Location: On Nanjing Jie （南京街）right at the West Gate of Zhongshan Park (中山公园西门)。 Ask a taxi driver for “zhōngshān gōngyuán xīmén”.

A+ Night Club

This club has been in Shenyang for quite some time, but has changed ownership and names repeatedly. Formerly known as Baby Face, and Angel Club, it’s now call A+. The club is not very big, and the facilities are a bit old and rundown. Nevertheless, if you go with a group of friends it can be a fun time. It’s often less crowded than the bigger newer clubs, and the drinks are slightly cheaper (beers from 25 yuan), and you may actually get better service because it’s not so crowded. Late at night the club’s sanitation leaves something to be desired, i.e. sticky tables and floor, dirty toilets.

Location: On Nan Jing Jie (南京街) at the northwest corner of Zhong Shan Park. Ask a taxi driver for “A jiā jiǔbā”.

Note: The area around Zhong Shan Square is becoming one of the best areas to go bar hopping as Hottown Club, Kiss Club, Club 97, West Beer Town, A+ Club, and Knight Leader Bar are all within walking distance of each other.

Paulaner Brauhaus

Located on the first floor of the ritzy Kempinski Hotel, this bar and grill is one of the more upscale places in Shenyang. Catering largely to foreign business people staying in the hotel, the prices for both food and drinks are considerably higher than most places in Shenyang. Though the prices are high, the food and drinks are excellent. Dinner selections include steak and sausages, and they have German Paulaner beer on tap. There are Filipina singers/dancers performing English songs every night.

Check in for parties and dinner/drink specials for special occasions, including Oktoberfest, World Cup, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, etc.

Steak Dinner: At least 100 yuan

Location: On the corner of Qing Nian Da Jie (青年大街) and Xi Bin He Lu (西滨河路), kitty corner from the TV Tower. Ask a taxi driver for kāi bīn sī jī jiǔdiàn. You can enter through the hotel, or there is a side-door on the north side of the bulding.

Hottown Club

Opened in 2008, Hottown is a large nightclub with an excellent sound system and good laser/light effects, etc. Sometimes they may have a foreign DJ late at night. It is quite crowded during weekends and holidays. Drinks are standard price for clubs in Shenyang—beers and cocktails 30 yuan and up. * * *Location: It’s on Zhong Shan Lu (中山路) just east of Zhong Shan Square (中山广场 zhōngshān guǎngchǎng).

West Side Story

West Side Story is a very nice medium sized bar that also serves delicious and inexpensive western food such as pizza, steak, etc. The drinks are reasonably priced and the atmosphere is quite comfortable. They sometimes have live jazz music and various other guest performers, but not the excessively noisy type that are often found in Chinese bars. The bar has plenty of seating and is suitable for dinner or late-night drinks, with a date or a rowdy group of friends.

Location: Near Xi ta Korean town. Just north of the intersection of Nanjing Jie (南京街) and Shifu lu (市府路). Simply ask a taxi driver for “nānjīngjiē, shìfǔlù”.
