Just recently opened in December 2006, Heidi’s claims to be “your typical Swiss restaurant.”  While the surrounding scenery might not compare with the Swiss Alps, the inside is definitely worth a visit. The building’s façade is meant to resemble a mountain chalet, and the inside has a very nice atmosphere, well suited for romantic encounters.
 
The atmosphere is pleasant, but more importantly the food is tremendous! Western restaurants in China are rarely worth writing about, but Heidi’s is certainly an exception. The menu is entirely European food, including some traditional Swiss dishes, pastas, salads, soups, desserts, and even fondue (!!). They also have Chinese and imported wines and a full bar.  All the food is prepared in authentic European styles and very delicious. The wait staff can even speak English.
 
All in all, Heidi’s Restaurant is a winner, and highly recommended for a romantic date. However, do note that  the restaurant is not cheap. For a full meal (soup or salad, main dish, dessert, wine or cocktails), plan on 100-150 yuan per person. Those not looking to spend quite so much will still not be disappointed with the salad and pasta… I strongly recommend the lasagna.            
 
How to get there: First find the United States Consulate on San Jing Jie (三经街), Heidi’s is directly across the street.

Le Le Harbor restaurant is very well-known among Shenyang locals for having fresh, top-quality seafood.  It's one of the highest-caliber restaurants in Shenyang, so it's not cheap, but if you like seafood, you can't go wrong here.

The restaurant is located on the inner ring road (文化路 wén huà lù) near the north gate of Northeastern University (东北大学 dōng běi dà xué), and just to the east of Fang Xing Square (方形广场 fāng xíng guǎng chǎng).

The newly remodeled Wu Ai (“Five Loves”) Market is well known in Shenyang and surrounding cities for its massive selection of bargain goods. The primary products here are clothes, shoes, and apparel, but you can also find other miscellaneous items such as Christmas and other holiday decorations, furniture and home furnishings, small electronics, souvenirs, books, and media.
 
If you can speak a little bit of Chinese, the Wu Ai Market is a great place to practice your bargaining skills, and with a little patience you can  definitely makes some very cheap purchases. Keep in mind that “you get what you pay for,” as the quality of the goods here usually reflects the price. 
 
How to get there: The market is near the center of the city about 2 km south of Middle Street. All taxi drivers will know it, otherwise take one of the following buses: 326, 800, 134, 334, 133, 260, 227, 212, 222, 224, 333, 270, 125, 223, 266, 227, 503, 297, 273, 132, 274, 117, 246
 
Note: The market opens early in the morning and closes down at 3:00pm, so plan on shopping early.

Shenyang City Catholic Cathedral

There is an English Mass every Sunday morning at 11:30 in a smaller chapel just west of the cathedral. Korean mass is held at 9:30 (times subject to change).
 
Note: The main church will be closed for repairs from mid April--August 2008.  English mass will be held as usual in the chapel. 
 
Just about every Christian (and many non-Christians) in Shenyang wants to get married at the cathedral, so visitors and passersby often enjoy the sight of several couples celebrating their weddings on Sundays.
 
How to get there: The church is located just north of the WuAi Market (五爱市场) and just south of Middle Street (中街).  Most taxi drivers know it as "xiǎo nán jiào táng (小南教堂)", otherwise the following buses will take you drop you off close by: 212, 270, 224, 227, 222, 219, 333, 503, 334, 326, 260, 338, 133, 134, 800, 125, 223, 266, 227, 503, 297, 273
