Re: The Hump Hostel
I was taken to that hotel by "Lonely Planet" in 2007. When I got off the train it was cold and rainy in Kuming and I didn't have any accomodation arranged. So I randomly picked that hotel and didnt expect anything good from it. However, it turned out with a lil pleasant surprise for me and I was quite happy with this place. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the drinks and food are not overcharged, the location is terrific, the double rooms are simple but quite cute, nothing like a white empty room, they took care of adding a bit of character in the decoration... If they have a better sound proof will be even better. All in all, The hump hostel was good value of money and good for backpack travellers.
Re: Casa da Pasto
nice lil restaurant with good food. However,Unlike what the previous guide said, I didnt found the Chinese menu when I was there and the waiter didnt even understand me when I speak Chinese.
Re: White Swan Hotel (5 star)
This hotel is located on Shamian island (Sand island) and is surrounded by old Colonial buildings, a surprising amount of greenery and very few cars. But when I walked in the roon, I couldnt believe that I'm actually in Five star hotel after paying so much money. I was told the hotel was bulit 28 years old and I guess it was a veritable palace of luxury way back then, but it hasn´t kept up with modern times. My suggestion for you is ---Try a another place with better value of money.
Re: Rosemary Café
this small cafe (9 tables)sets the standard for affordable western food in guilin..no fancy staff here-just good service and well cooked steaks, pizzas, soups, etc from their extensive menu, served with a smile...Lots of the local expats eat there regulary and all think nothing that was below a constantly high standard...
Re: Guilin Mingren Karaoke
I don't really like this place because it feels so doggy there. It feels like this KTV is mainly for those Chinese business men who are looking for some hookers. I've only been there once and saw a bounch of girls wearing sexy golden uniform and holding a drunk Chinese business guy and asking for tips. I'd prefer some other place where you actually feel relaxing and safe and less doggy.
Re: Captain Hostel
when i was there, this hostel was full and couldnt get a room for it. However, I went to the roofbar where offer a nice view for the bund and the price of the drink is reasonable. Check it out next time if you have any chance.
Re: U B Cafe
If you are looking for a comfortable place to check your emails with free wireless, UBC cafe will be a good place to pick. The price is ordineray, love the black peper with beer rice there.
Re: ShangriLa Hotel
This is a beautiful hotel that opened recently. The staff could not try any harder to accommodate your every need, It has a nice restaurant with river view, However, The location isn't great if you want to see Guilin city center. The common areas are grand and comfortable. The rooms are luxurious from the beds to the decor to the fluffy towels. The restaurant was amazing - the staff was engaging and will make you feel very comfortable.Maybe try their spa if you want cos i heard its quite nice.
Re: Wenhua Street
Nice place to check out, I remember I spent two afternoon there out of my three days trip, quite relaxing and enjoyable.
