The Hump Hostel
Very affordable and laid-back, the Hump Hostel mainly caters to backpackers seeking budget accommodation in the form of dorm beds. Rooms are also available. The atmosphere is welcoming and casual, a classic backpacker hangout all the way. If you want to get a goodnights sleep, I would look for accommodation elsewhere - the hostel is conveniently located above several discos that pump loud music all night long. This is the only hostel I have ever seen that provides complimentary earplugs in their rooms (it should be noted that these earplugs do not work to mute the music from downstairs.) On the other hand, this may be the place for you if you are looking for that party atmosphere.

Re: The Hump Hostel
I was taken to that hotel by "Lonely Planet" in 2007. When I got off the train it was cold and rainy in Kuming and I didn't have any accomodation arranged. So I randomly picked that hotel and didnt expect anything good from it. However, it turned out with a lil pleasant surprise for me and I was quite happy with this place. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the drinks and food are not overcharged, the location is terrific, the double rooms are simple but quite cute, nothing like a white empty room, they took care of adding a bit of character in the decoration... If they have a better sound proof will be even better. All in all, The hump hostel was good value of money and good for backpack travellers.
