The Pulse Health Club is managed by Kempinski Hotels & Resorts. There are two locations in the Beijing Lufthansa Centre, one on the 18th floor (with a great view and a swimming pool), and the other in the basement in an adjacent building. The basement location has a bigger weight lifting area, more machines, and a studio for classes.

Yoga at Pulse Health Club
Pulse is suitable for those looking for a club that has regular yoga classes, as classes are currently offered daily except for Tuesdays (many clubhouses only have one or two classes a week). The Vinyasa flow yoga classes are suitable for beginners as well as more advanced students. Most of the instruction is in Chinese, however, it is relatively easy to follow other students as the studio has wall-to-wall mirrors.

In addition to yoga classes the club also offers Latin dancing, Kung Fu, aerobics, kickboxing, Taebo, pilates and Taekwondo.  Other facilitlies include a sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, and tennis and squash courts.

Membership fees for a single person are as follows:
Monthly: 1050 Yuan
Quarterly: 2800 Yuan
Biannually: 4500 Yuan
Annually: 7500 Yuan

There is also an off-peak membership offer, as well as memberships for couples or families. If you do not want to become a member, but do want to attend some of the classes, you can pay on a class-by-class basis (90 yuan per class), or buy 10 classes for 800 yuan.

Oriental Tai Pan is a well-established and reasonably priced spa offering the full complement of massage and beauty treatments.  The entrance to the spa is bright and breezy with a warm ambience. The massage rooms are dimly lit, conducive to unwinding and a little shut eye, and do not feel in the least bit dingy.  Some of the therapies on offer include reflexology, thai massage, aromatherapy massage, hot stone aromatherapy, and lymphatic system therapy (for ladies only). Facials, pedicures, and manicures are examples of some of Tai Pan’s beauty treatments.  You will be treated to complimentary fruit and vegetable juices of your choice during massages.  After your massage the therapist will probably ask if you’d like to stay for an additional massage; I imagine you will find it very difficult to say no.

How to get there:

Take bus 420 or 107.  Get off at Gaojia Yuan bus station.  Turn left and look for the big building on the corner with ‘massage and spa’ written on the outside.

Shicha Hai

Shichahai is a famous scenic area that includes three lakes (Qian Hai, meaning Front Sea; Hou Hai, meaning Back Sea and Xi Hai, meaning Western Sea), surrounding places of historic interest and scenic beauty, and remnants of old-style Beijing residences, Hutong and Courtyard. It is located in the northwest part of Beijing, and covers a large area of 146.7 hectares (about 363 acres). We can take a walk along the lake and have a cup of hot coffee after some strolling.

The greatest point of interest in Shichahai today is its residences, Hutong and Courtyard. In and around Beijing City, Shichahai is one of the best places to view well-preserved Hutongs and courtyards.

Private Beijing Antique Shopping Tour with Lunch

Start your private tour with pickup from your central Beijing hotel, and meet your private guide.

Hop inside your private, climate-controlled vehicle and travel to your first stop: Liulichang Antique Street. Situated in old Beijing, this history-steeped street is lined with stone shop-houses selling antique books, handicrafts, paintings, rubbings, glazed pottery, and other treasures.

Hear about Liulichang’s history, and get advice from your guide as to the best shopping opportunities. Sift through the traditional shops and stands, and explore the side lanes (hutongs), where the shops still bear original Ming and Qing architectural features like ornately carved doors and upswept roofs.

Next, drive to Panjiayuan Market, a so-called ‘weekend market’ that’s open daily. Weave through the throng of stands, perusing the huge array of antiques, curios, ceramics, Tibetan rugs, calligraphy, and other finds.

After shopping here, refuel with lunch at a Chinese restaurant, and continue to Baoguosi Cultural Market, set around an old temple. Scour the courtyards of vendors hawking stamps, books, coins and jade, and get tips on scouting out and clinching the best deals from your guide.

If time allows, squeeze in a visit to Hongqiao Market, a mall known for its pearl traders, and electronics, art, clothes, and accessories shops. Trawl for bargains, and haggle over pearls and other precious gems as perfect keepsakes of your time in Beijing.

After seven hours, your tour concludes with a hotel drop-off.
