This superb adventure in remote China combines the experience of real Tibetan culture with a spectacular trek through the beautiful valleys of Riwoche and Moxi to the Monastery below the ice-fluted shark's fin of Minya Konka (7556m), the world's third highest peak outside the Himalaya. Situated on the eastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau, Minya Konka is also one of the most sacred mountains to Tibetan Buddhists, equal in status to Mount Kailas in Western Tibet. Impressive mountain panoramas and austere glaciers, babbling brooks and river torrents, azure blue lakes, enchanting mixed woodland, grazing yaks and their nomadic herders, chortens, mani walls, prayer flags and elaborately decorated Gompas can all be found here.
Our week long trek begins just south of Kangding. the 'Gateway to Tibet'. We make a steady ascent of the Riwoche valley with its soaring cliffs and fast river torrents. At the head of this valley we enter a high grazing area where we will encounter the temporary settlements of the nomadic yak herders. Climbing to cross the 4900 metre Bhuchu La, we then descend the beautiful Moxi valley eventually entering forests of rhododendron, juniper, birch and oak which in October become a riot of Autumnal colours. We stay overnight in the Konka monastery and the climax of our trek is the climb to the ridge above for unrivalled views of Minya Konka and the Daxue range of 6000-metre snowy peaks. Although Minya Konka is the undoubted centre-piece of this great trekking holiday to a little visited mountain region of Sichuan, there is much more to the holiday than this, admittedly, superbly photogenic mountain.
If you want to see real Tibetan culture, this is where you should come. This holiday will give you an insight into the rural life of the Kham region and also of the Minyak people who are an ethnic group distinct again from their Khampa neighbours. A 5-hour drive from Chengdu to Rilong at the base of Mount Siguniang. We will start from Chengdu at your hotel in the morning by around 8.00 and drive towards west into the mountains. The road is in the former earthquake-zone and you may still see the damages on the mountains from the quake in 2008. The road was finished by end of 2016 and making the driving safer and quicker. We will climb from 500 meters above sea level to a 4000-meter tunnel over Balang Pass and then dive into the valley where Rilong locates. After arrive in Rilong, visit Shuangqiao using tourist buses or do some hiking along the valley. Rilong is a small town by the base of Mount Siguniang and usually a good stop place for hikers. Rilong is at 3100 meters. When you are in higher places, drink more water and keep warm.
Start by a 3-hour drive from the base of Mt. Siguniang and arrive in Danba. You will have 1 to 2 hours explore the beautiful and genuine Tibetan Village in Danba. The village here is built high up on the mountain and their houses are very famous. The local Tibetan Village was considered to be one of the most beautiful villages in China. The houses and watchtowers are their traditional constructions. The local hospitable people are very friendly and kind. After the visit, keep driving for another 3 hours to arrive in Taong, before arrive, visit Huiyuan Temple in Bamei, a traditional hometown of the 11th Dalai Lama. After arrive in Tagong, check in and relax.
In the morning if you like you can wake up early to see the Buddhists walking around the Tagong Monastery or maybe a little walking in the small town of Tagong before drive north words to Ganzi. Along the way you will be driving cross the ranches and forests. Stop for a couple of monasteries along the way. After arrival, if time allows, visit Ganzi Monastery in town. Ganzi Monastery is the biggest monastery in this area. After worth, go back to hotel and rest.
Today you will drive along the north range of Gangga Mountains with views of the lower range of this unexplored places. Arrive at Xinlu Hai (Yihun Latso Lake) and spend 1 hour here to visit this holy lake in this area. After the visit, drive across Chola Mountain with stunning views of Mt. Chola and go through the newly-finished tunnel to arrive in Derge, a far and exotic town of Tibet where you will have a visit to the printing school. After about 1 hour’s visit, go back to your hotel and check in and rest.
Starts by 8am in the morning and drive along the upper Yangtze River where on the other side of the river is the Tibet. Arrive in Baiyu and stop to have a look of the Baiyu Monastery built on the mountain above the town. The town is very small and the monastery is stunning. Baiyu Monastery is an important monastery in Garze. After the visit, start to drive to Yarchen Gar.
In the morning walk to visit the monk/nun areas, this whole complex is for religious people. Remember that the center part of this monastery is only open for women although male visitors are welcome to go in but local males never go in there. It’s more like a tradition than laws, so out of respect to local culture, you are not recommended to go inside over the river into the female monks dorms. You will have the full morning to visit Yarchen and after worth, drive back to Ganzi via Zhuodala and our through the mountains. Arrive in Ganzi and check in.
Today is also a full day of driving where you will start by driving through the river gorge and pass Xinlong where you will have lunch and then continue to Litang while on half way, a stop to visit one of the most secluded places in China, the Cuoka Lake. The lake is situated by the foot of a mountain with beautiful local villages surrounded. After the visit keep driving to Litang, the highland town of China with an elevation of near 4000 meters.
Today you will keep driving south over a few mountain passes towards Yading. Short stops by the mountain passes including Haizishan, Tu'er Shan and Bowashan road passes that are over 4000 meters. The drive will take about 5-6 hours and you will see vast land of nomads places, Tibetan villages before you arrive in Yading. A visit to Bangpu monastery on halfway.
Today start from your hotel and use the public bus by the entrance of the Yading Nature Reserve. Arrive and walk to Luorong Yak Ranch and walk to Niunai Lake (Milk Lake). Elevation climbs to over 4000 meters. Here you have splendid views of the two of the sacred mountains of Yading: Xianuoduoji and Yangmaiyong. These mountains are about 6000 meters’ tall and this place is well protected to remain its original looking. After Milk Lake you can keep walking to Wuse Lake, a bigger lake that is 100 meters higher than Milk Lake. And if you are a fit walker, you can even walk to the Songduo Pass, which is by the end of the valley and the highest place of the park at 4500 meters. Walking time is around 2-4 hours single way. A horse-riding is available if you get there early. An electricity car ride is involved during your visit before walking. After the walk, come back the same way back to Shangri-La town. Overnight in Shangri-La town.
Today start from your hotel and use the public bus again by the entrance of the Yading Nature Reserve. Today you don’t have to use horse nor electricity car. The visit is to Pearl Lake by Chonggu Temple after your tourist bus ride. The Pearl Lake is by the foot of Xiannairi. It is a stunning lake with beautiful reflection of mountains around it. Xiannairi is considered by local people a Buddha with significance of religious sacredness. The walk is around half an hour to get there. After your photo and walking around there, come back the same way and ride to Daocheng. Overnight in Daocheng.
Longest day of driving. Daocheng is a small city with an elevation of 3800 meters. With your walking on over 4000 meters in Yading Park, this height won’t be a challenge for you anymore. Daocheng is a nice city with colorful forest around it in fall. Today you will start to drive back to Chengdu using the same road. This is when you realize how far Yading is. But only the most beautiful view hides far and remote. Isn’t it? Another town is arranged for an overnight stay going back instead of Xinduqiao so you will have chance to see different places. Kangding is a historical town between the traditional Tibet and Chine and one of the important towns where ancient people do business on the Southern Silk Road. After around 8 hours of driving, arrive and check in hotel. Overnight in Kangding.
Kangding is the traditional China-Tibet town throughout the history. It witnessed the change of itself and has a great significance between the historical relations between China and Tibet. You will have a late start today to leave you time to explore the town for about 1 hour before set for Chengdu. After half day’s drive arrive in Chengdu and check in your hotel in Chengdu. Tour ends.

Start from your hotel by 8:00 passing the former earthquake center in Yingxiu and the natural habitat of pandas at Wolong. The drive is about 4-5 hours before arrive at the base of Mt. Siguniang at Rilong. After lunch, go hike the ridge at Haizigou to see the mountains of Siguniang. The walking is about 4-5km in total. It can be strenuous as you will be walking up but not steep. Catch the clear views of Mt. Siguniang if the weather is good. After worth go back the same way and check in hotel. Be careful when taking shower as the temperature drops dramatically at night. Also when you are sleep, try leave your window open a little bit to get airflow.
Start by 8:30 in the morning and start to drive to Danba for about 3 hours. Arrive in Jiaju Village and have a visit to this beautiful tibetan village built in the mountain. There is a short walking you can do if the weather is good. You can try to eat lunch in the village to try the local flavor, the Jiarong Food. After the visit, keep driving towards Tagong for another 3 hours and en route have a look of Huiyuan Temple in Bamei, the birthplace of the 11th Dalai Lama. Arrive in Tagong and check in hotel. Today's hotel is the most basic one, you are recommended not to take shower as it is quite cold and the water is not always reliable even if it is the best hotel here. Tagong is a remote and authentic place where local tibetan people still kept their original way of living compare to other tibetan places.
Today get up early to see the monastery of Tagong. In the early morning there are often local Tibetan people walking around the monastery, turning the prayer wheels. After simple breakfast, driving to Litang via the 318 National Highway passing over several road passes over 4000 meters. Today you will have several chances to walk out of the car to walk a bit at over 4000 meters before you arrive in Litang. Litang is a very high altitude place, it is called "the high town of China" at 3950 meters above sea level.
Start by 8 am and go visit Litang Monastery before drive to the base of Yading for about 6-7 hours. Litang Monastery is one of the most important monasteries around this area and Litang has been a very nomadic place and home to many cowboys and herders. The drive will pass the highland Haizi Shan and Tu'er Shan and then Bowa Shan, all are over 4500 meters. Today you will enter the deep land of Tibet. After arrive in the base of Yading, called Riwa, check in hotel and prepare for the next day's hiking. There is no food option in Yading park so it is better to buy something in advance and carry them with you, good places to buy these are Chengdu on the day you arrive, something that can last more than a few days, or to try it in Litang if you want it to be simple.
Wake up before 7 and prepare for your first day hike in Yading. Leave your hotel by 7:00. First take the bus for about 1 hour from the entrance to Chonggu Temple where you will switch to electricity cars to ride further for another 20 minutes to Luorong Ranch. After arrive there you can see the peaks of Yangmaiyong and Xiaruoduoji . At Luorong Ranch you can either choose to walk to Milk lake and Wuse Lake have a horse-riding there. Need to get there early to book the horses if needed. In October often the horses are booked out after 9.00. Note that the horse ride can only take you to the first flat 2km and the rest 2km going up you need to do it on your own. Milk Lake is at its best by around 1.00 pm of the day in a good weather day. Wuse lake is also very beautiful but its higher. For people who are fit enough you can walk all the way up to the Songduo Pass which is another 30 minutes from Wuse lake and at the elevation of 4600 meters. The walking takes about 3 hours single way so it is from Luorong Ranch forth and back will need 6 hours of walking, consider you will need time to shoot photos, it is going to be a long day. Come back to Luorong Ranch where we take the golf car by the latest at 5.30pm and then use the bus to go back to the base of Yading and go back to the same hotel and rest.

Prepare yourself for the drive to Ya'an (about 2~2.5 hours driving). In Ya'an, you will visit Shangli Ancient Town which used to be an important town on the Ancient Tea-Horse Road. During the Long March, the Red Army once stationed in the town and left many slogans carvings on the stone. Shangli Ancient Town is surrounded by beautiful mountains and river. Here you can see not only century-old streets, wood resident house, towers, ancient archways, but also enjoy beautiful surrounding of green mountain and tranquil rivers. In the summer and autumn days, there are many art students come to the town to study and paint the bridges and waterside scenes. After the visit, drive into the bigger mountains via Ya’an-Kangding Express way to the base of Hailuogou Glacier Park. After arrival check in hotel and you can explore the small town Moxi on your own if time allows.
Visit Hailuogou Glacier park in the morning using tourist site bus. Hailuogou Glacier Park is one of the biggest glacier parks in China. It has big glaciers of Minya Konka. During the hiking in the park, you will need to be aware of the elevation change. The elevation is between 2600 meters to 3600 meters. The visit to the park takes about 6 hours. After the visit, drive to Xinduqiao for about 4 hours and drive over Zheduo Pass at 4300 meters. Have a quick stop by the pass if weather is good and continue driving to and stay in Xindqiao for overnight.
Have a morning walk in the believed-to-be “Paradise of Photographers” Xinduqiao to experience local Khampa Tibetan landscape and local people. Drive to Tagong. The drive takes about 0.5 hours. You will have 1 hour at Tagong Grassland on your own to explore the small village and the surroudings after a visit to the Tagong Monastery. From Tagong you can have views of the beautiful Zhara Latse, a 5800 meters’ holy mountain in Tagong and the local authentic Tibetan culture experience. After the stop at Tagong continue driving to Danba for another 3 hours during which you will have stops at Huiyuan Temple and the road pass and the Yak Valley to see the snow-capped mountains. Arrive in Danba and check in Hotel.
An early start to visit Danba Tibetan Village. Jiaju is one of the representatives of the Tibetan villages in Danba. It is authentic and traditional Tibetan villages. People there work in the farm and orchards. Their houses are unique and beautiful. The villages are located on the sunny slope and composed of over decades of families. The village bends into the shape of the mountain side: some lower and some higher. Green orchards and colorful houses made the villages here very attractive. After the visit, which takes about 1 hour, drive to mount Siguniang for about 3 hours and start your visit to Shuangqiao Valley of Mt. Siguniang. Shuangqiaogou Valley is a zigzagged, deep and quiet valley stretching over 35km in which there are more than 70 small attractions. Far away from your sight are the bright snow mountains, while surrounding you may be blooming flowers, flourish and colorful trees, or pure streams flowing from unknown place. Overnight in the town of Mount Siguniang.
Depart Mount Siguniang via Balangshan en route visit Dujiangyan Irrigation System, a project built by of the governor of Shu state, Li Bing. The irrigation system on the River was to prevent flooding. After a lengthy study and years’ hard work by the local people, the great Dujiangyan Irrigation Project was completed. Nowadays, the project still plays a crucial role in draining off floodwater, irrigating farms and providing water resources for more than 50 cities in Sichuan province. After the visit drive back to Chengdu. Trip ends.

Today, we will go to visit two sacred Buddhist places which are also great place to get amazing both visual and heart touching. Firstly, drive about 2 hours to Leshan city to see the famous Giant Buddha. Sculptured on the cliff facing River, Leshan Giant Buddha is 71 meters high, and has sit here for more than one thousand years. You will walk the plank road built on cliff to get close observation of the Buddha.After about 2 hours’ stay at Leshan, drive about 40 minutes to next Buddhist kingdom – Emeishan. Take a short visit to Baoguosi Temple which is one of most influential Buddhist temple of Emeishan.Check in hotel, and take a good rest.
Today is a full day visiting on Emeishan. Firstly, take sightseeing bus to the upper station – Leidongping where you hike about 30 minutes to get to the Jieyingting Cableway Station. Then you can take cableways to the top of Emeishan – Golden Summit, or hike about another 2 hours up the stone steps. The experience on the Golden Summit is fabulous – sparkling golden Buddha statue, grandiose temples, endless stretching cloud sea, fresh air, etc.After the sightseeing, take sightseeing bus back to the foot of mountain, then to to check in your hotel at Emeishan City.

This morning, you will have a short driving from Shangli to visit Mengding Mountain (alt: 1456 meters). With more than 2000 years history of tea planting, Mengding Mountain ins regarded as the Cradle of World's Green Tea Culture. In Tang Dynasty and Song Dynasty, Mengding Tea was selected as the tribute tea for the royal families. Nowadays, the local farmers still plant teas on the mountain. You can see vast green tea plantations on the mountain.After the visit drive to Kangding for about 3 hours and stay in Kangding
Have a morning walk in the town of Kangding to experience local Khampa Tibetans and the modernization of this town before drive over Zheduo Pass at 4300 meters. Have a quick stop by the pass if weather is good and continue driving pass Xinduqiao before arrive in Tagong. The drive takes about 3 hours. Lunch before hiking on the Tagong Grassland. Today the trip starts by walking in the traditional Tibetan village of Jiaju, a very beautiful village considered one of the most attractive traditional villages in China. The Jiaju Village has unique watchtowers and their distinctive Jiarong houses. Spend two hours wondering in the village, then drive about 2 hours to enjoy a leisure natural sightseeing in Shuangqiao Valley where you can see peaks, primitive forest. Shuangqiao is one of the three opened valleys of Mount Siguniang. It is over 30km long and a valley that you can see lots of snow mountains. Tourist buses are used for visiting this valley. The valley is with a series of “scenic spots”, which are the places where you get off the bus and take photos. A road was built in the valley however one can still choose to walk between the bus stops. The buses are running like public buses: you can get off and get on at the bus stops. After the visit to Shuangqiao, drive to Rilong for accommodation.Keep drive from Shuangqiao Valley to Rilong Town. Overnight in Rilong.
Today, you will hike into Changping Valley with a 10-minute riding of bus to get to the starting point and walk on wooden planks in the bushes and forest. Total walking time is up to 7-8 hours and up to 20km with flexibility. The walking trail is not steep and the first 4 km is well-paved boardwalk. Walking for around 12km into the valley one can reach Muluozi, the foot of Mt. Views of Mt. Siguniang from its west are totally different from that of the south. It shows you the big steep wall of this big mountain.Return to the town by the road you come. Have a good rest.
Depart Mount Siguniang via Balangshan Pass en route visit Dujiangyan Irrigation System, a 2000-year old human construction and a display of ancient Chinese wisdom. After the visit drive back to Chengdu.

Day 1 Arrive in Chengdu
You will be greeted by your guide and driver at the airport and driven to your hotel. After a short rest at the hotel, pay a visit to People’s Park and Kuanzhai Alleys.
Day 2 Leshan Giant Buddha, Shangli Ancient Town & Ya’an
We will drive about 2 hours to visit the Leshan Giant Buddha in the morning, the largest single Buddha Statue in China. After that we move to Ya’an, and pay a visit to Shangli ancient town, which used to be a stopping point for the Tea and Horse Ancient Road.Then go to hotel to check in.
Day 3 Bifengxia Panda Base & Hailuogou Glacier
Bifengxia Panda Base is the place you can visit the “Black and White” Chinese giant Pandas. You may interact and play with the young pandas, a reservation is required beforehand. After our short stay at the Panda Base, We will drive to Hailuogou in the afternoon.
Day 4 Hailuoguo National Park
Today we will spend whole day visiting Hailuogou. Early in the morning we will take the shuttle bus and cable car to the top of the mountain to view the snow mountain and the glacier. Next we will take a short walk through the forest where there is a well paved track. After that we will visit an old town called Moxi.
Day 5 Yanzigou Valley, Kangding
Today we will drive to Kangding city, the home of Tibetans. En route, we will visit Yanzigou valley, where you will see the low-altitude glaciers, the mountain peaks, the hot and cold springs,some forests as well as rare plants and animals.
Day 6 Kangding to Danba, En route visit Tagong Grassland
Today we will make two stops on our way to Danba Jiaju Tibetan village.The stops are: Xinduqiao, the best place for photography, and Tagong Grassland, a vast expanse of meadow lying beneath the sacred Yallah Mountain, and is landmarked by the famous Tagong Lamasery.
Day 7 Danba Jiaju Tibetan Village, Rilong Town
Jiaju Tibetan Village nests in the high mountain, with more than 100 household Tibetan families living there. In the morning we will walk up to a high platform to overlook the village, the deep valleys and the river.
After our leisure walking tour in this traditional Tibetan village. We will hit the road again to Mt. Siguniang,the so—called “Queen of the Mountains”, famous for its steep and imposing ridges.
Day 8 Day Walk in Mt. Four Ladies
The unusual shapes of Mt. Four Ladies are rarely seen anywhere else in the world.The blue skies,snow peaks,ancient cypress forests, rushing waterfalls, and alpine meadows make this area a nature lovers dream.
In the morning we will drive to Changpinggou valley for a day walk,where you will be able to see the four peaks of Mt. Siguniang and virgin forests.You should prepare your food beforehand.
Day 9 Mt. Four Ladies to Maerkang
We will spend the whole morning walking in another valley in Mt. Four Ladies. If the weather is clear we may be lucky enough to see the Peaks of the Mt. Four Ladies. And after our walking tour in Mt. Four Ladies, we will continue to head in the direction of Maerkang, which means, “The Place Lightened by Butter Lamps” in Tibetan.
Day 10 Maerkang to Dujiangyan City
Before saying good-bye to the Tibetan people and culture, we will have a chance to visit Zuokeji Offical Mansion and Taoping Qiang Village. Finally we will head back to a modern city called Dujiangyan,where the famous Dujiangyan Irrigation Project was built over 2000 years ago.
Day 11 Dujiangyan to Chengdu
In the morning,we will go visit the Irrigation Project and Dujiangyan city, after that we will drive about 1.5 hours to get back to Chengdu.Free evening for you to walk around and explore.
Day 12 Chengdu/Home
Fly out, the end of trip.
