To start with, I want to say, Timmy is young but she is an outstanding and experienced Tour Guide. It was easy to see why her University honored her and she won a National Competition her senior year. I am a 76 year-old widower and Timmy took excellent care of me and made my visit to Lijiang, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, Kunming, Shilin and the Nai Gu Stone Forests, and the Yuanyang rice terraces a fantastic experience. I was not interested in one or two of those canned tours and Timmy convinced me that I made the right choice in going with her as my freelance Tour Guide. Not only did she make my visit most enjoyable and memorable, but she also made me want to return to China. When I go back to Yunnan Province, and I will hike Tiger Leaping Gorge, and I will do my best to get Timmy to be my guide again.
I was impressed that her English was so good. And she not only went out of her way to support my every need, but also, more often than not, she anticipated my needs. We were supposed to hike the Tiger Leaping Gorge, but there was an earthquake in that area two days before I arrived in Lijiang. They were also having a lot of rain in the area and she told me in no uncertain terms, it was not safe for me to go. She did not say we couldn’t go, but that we shouldn’t go. She was right, as they shut down the area completely and even evacuated those who lived in that area. She quickly rearranged our itinerary, adding the Lijiang Impressions Show, cutting our stay in the Lijiang area by a couple of days, and adding more sights in the Kunming area. I was a little skeptical about the Lijiang Impressions Show, as I was planning to see the Impressions 3rd Sister Liu Show in Yangshuo. Again she was right, as the two shows were totally different and I was glad I got to see both of them.
Timmy was also very knowledgeable about everywhere we went. I forgot to mention that in our planning, I did not limit myself to questions about the places we might visit. I asked Timmy many question about traveling in China, China and the Chinese culture. Timmy was always willing to answer my questions, even though I feel sure she must have gotten a chuckle out of some of them. I should mention that Timmy has a great sense of humor, which made our trip even more enjoyable. While there were certain places I had researched and wanted to see, Timmy suggested other places I might want to consider, several of which were not in any tourist information I found. There was no pressure, only suggestions. Timmy is thorough, friendly, prompt and protective of her guests. As we planned my visit to Kunming and the Kunming area, I began to think of Timmy as a friend.
When the Tour Guide I was working with for Lijiang and the Lijiang area cancel out not too long before I was to leave for China, I thought I was in real trouble. However, Timmy told me she had toured clients in Lijiang and the Lijiang area before and she could take the Sleeper Train from Kunming to Lijiang and serve as my Tour Guide there. I had become so impressed with Timmy; I did not hesitate to immediately say YES! What a stroke of good luck. She met me at the Lijiang Airport and did great. By the end of my twelve days with Timmy, I felt we were not just friends, but were good friends and we will continue to be good friends.
Now that I am home and looking back on my trip, I don't believe I could have found a better Tour Guide than Timmy to see Yunnan Province, which was a definite highlight of my trip. Timmy made me want to return and see more of China and Yunnan Province and I will try my best to arrange for Timmy to be my Tour Guide.
