Five Officials Temple, which is part of a much larger architectural complex of memorial structures and temples, was built in honor of (unsurprisingly) five officials who were banished to Hainan Island during the Tang and Song dynasties. Memorials such as this one say something about Hainan’s character in that so many of its historic sites are in honor of rebels.

White sand beaches and crystal clear waters aren’t the first things that come to mind when you picture China, but the country’s southernmost province is an island paradise the likes of which you’d expect to find in Southeast Asia.
A popular playground for the Chinese and Russians in particular, Sanya boasts some remarkably picturesque beaches – the most famous of which is Yalong Bay.
In addition to sunbathing, swimming, and snorkeling – the island of Hainan is a playground of resorts, spas, floating restaurants, and amusement parks perfect for a family getaway.
Nanshan Temple is also worth a look, with its towering three-sided statue of Guan Yin Buddha being a highlight.

Originally built during the Ming Dynasty, Hairui’s Tomb was virtually destroyed during the Cultural Revolution. The memorial has since been rebuilt with a pavilion, a tranquil garden filled with stone statues, flowers, and a small lake. Hairui was a nobleman during the Ming Dynasty who was famous for his integrity and lack of corruption. Take the #1 bus (the big yellow bus) to the end. It will stop at a four-lane highway (Quihai Dadao). Cross the highway and walk up the hill; the memorial will be on the right.

Tianya Haijiao (天涯海角; literally: “Edges of the heaven, corners of the sea”) is a popular resort in the southern part of Hainan province, People’s Republic of China. It is located 24 kilometres (15 mi) to the west of Sanya’s municipal region. The venue is considered the southernmost point of China’s land area despite the fact that Jinmu Cape actually is. It is for this reason that it is a popular sightseeing destination for tourists, as well as the fact that, on clear days, various islets are visible. In Chinese literature, the cape is mentioned in many famous poems, such as “I will follow you to Tian-Ya-Hai-Jiao”, which means the couple will never be separated. Therefore, many newlyweds spend part of their honeymoon visiting the place.

Tianya haijiao is located at the southern most tip of Hainan Island. The beach here is strewn with all kinds of rare stone. When you search the pictures of Tianya hai jiao, you might wonder what makes this places so popular because afterall, they are just some big rocks? Yes, it's ture, but the stones are rare and fantastic, especially the big stones that rise up into the vast and limitless skies. The stones with inscriptions carved by famous ancient and more recent times. The most famous spot is " Pillar Under Southern Sky". There's an interesting story about it. Long long time ago, the sea near Hainan was very rough and trubulent. The local people couldnt travel on its surface and had hard and poverty-stricken lives. Hearing this, two fairy maidens made up their mind to do something to help them. They left the heave and stayed in the sea. After their magical tricks, all of a sudden, the wind stopped and the ocean calm down. Then the fishmen could go fishing again. However, the queen of the heave got very angry about the two maidens interfere in humans affairs. She sent thunder God to arrest them and take them back for punishment in heaven. The maidens refused and prefer to turn themselves into rocks for fishmen's navigation. When the rock was split in two by the lightening from the thunder God, one half flew onto the beach of the end of the end. People appreciate the fair maiden for being upright and above flattery and called the rock " Pillar Under Southern Sky". Now this rock is famous not only because they have a history of several thousand years old, they are also precious because they contain traces of traditional Chinese culture. This is one of the place that you might be interested to check it out when you are in Sanya.

Sunshine, beach, blue sea, palm tree, lots of fruits, swiming, playing golf... Sanya is a top hoilday destination for people in China who want to skip the cold winter in north. Following are pictures from my hoilday at 2009, early spring.
