I will say taxis are really different as other cities, not means the cars, i mean the way they doing business, to be honestly, i dont like it.

The taxi`s price in Sanya are debatable, if it`s a long distance travel, you can make a deal with them. But the best way is use the meters, some certain factors, they like to have a set price than using the meters.

And they like to take you to somewhere where they can get kick backs which i dare not to take one in my Sanya trip, only once i took it is from my hotel to Sanya Airport, which is close. But it`s really hard to get one because it`s a small business they wont willing to take us, and the people who works at hotel tell us it`s quite normal that they doing this, we wait for about 20 minutes to get a cab, and luckily this driver use the meters and it`s cost 14 Yuan from the hotel to the airport which is the right price.

The regular cab fees: 10 Yuan for the first 3KM, 1 Yuan/KM  for over 20 KM return trip, 2 Yuan/10minutes for waiting.

In Sanya city, you will see many buses, but in the three famous resort area, buses you will see is  the tour buses, there are two routes are very useful, one is from Sanya Airport to West Station(西站), and another one is from Sanya Tianya Haijiao to Yalong Bay.

These two routes are including many hotels and attractions. And they will stop anywhere as you wave to them, and they will let you get off anywhere you want, quite like a taxi. The exact location you can catch the buses, you`d better ask people who wokrs in the hotel, they will tell you.

The tickets price are based on the distance, since it`s a long trip, usually will cost 40 minutes from the start to the end, so they separated the whole trip as 4 parts, and each parts have a price for it, if you take maybe 3 parts of it, the price will be accumulated. The whole trip will cost 8 Yuan.

The tour buses are nice and comfortable, with a strong air-conditioning, never get crowed, you will always have a seat, so i think it`s better than the local taxi.

Another one is from Yalong Bay to Daxiao Dongtian which the bus is run by the personal, i didn't took that, but it looks not bad.

Sanya Phoenix International Airport is a new airport, not too big, but it has many airlines go and from other cities of China, like Nanjing, Xian, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Chongqing, Wuhan, Chengdu, Tianjing ect.

The location is convenient too, especially go to Sanya Bay. It have direct tour bus go to the airport.  If you need to go to Yalong Bay and Da Donghai you can also choose to take the bus or taxi. The taxi`s price are debatable, if it`s a long distance travel, you can make a deal with them.But the best way is use the meters, but some certain factors, they like to have a set price than using the meters.

Another way to go to your hotel is, ask the hotel you going to stay if they can pick you up or not, that will be better, and many hotels in Sanya they do have this services.

There are a number of ways to reach Hainan Island and Haikou from the mainland.

Air

Milan airport has regular flights to and from all of China’s major cities. Hainan Airlines, China Southern Air, Shenzhen Airline, Dragonair, and a number of smaller airlines service this airport. The airport is about 25 kilometers (app. 15 miles) from downtown Haikou. From the airport a taxi into the city should cost 35-50 yuan depending on your exact destination. The drivers will quote you much higher rates, so be sure to haggle a little. There is also an airport shuttle bus that will take you into town for 25 yuan. Once downtown you can walk or take a taxi to your hotel.

If you are coming from Hong Kong, you will usually find a better deal if you go to Shenzhen first and fly from there.

Boat

There are two ports in Haikou: Xiuying and Xin Gang. Boats leave daily for coastal cities. Ships run between Haikou and Guangzhou, Zhanjiang, Hai’an, Shekou, Beihai. There used to be service to Hong Kong, but last I checked, there were no boats headed to and from Hong Kong. Shekou is a port of Shenzhen, and from there it is not difficult to reach Hong Kong. The schedules for these routes change seasonally, so it’s best to check ahead of time.

Train

A train, which travels by boat, runs between Haikou and Guangzhou. The entire journey takes about 12 hours.

Bus

Buses run regularly from major cities in Southern China. The bus ticket will also include the ferry ride to the island.

Using the different modes of transportation in Haikou is a cultural experience in itself.  Within the city there is an efficient bus system that will take you anywhere you want to go.  However, if you don’t read Chinese, deciphering the bus routes can be a challenge.  Some bookstores sell city maps in English with bus routes marked on them.  At Creation Bookstore on the top of Mingju Square, the main downtown shopping area, you can find these maps.  Sometimes sell maps on top of the pedestrian bridges as well.
