Bei Zuyi later became the president of Bank of China in 1945. He is also the father of the celebrated architect, I.M Pei.

The Bei's Residence has reinforced concrete structure with Art Deco style decoration supplemented by Chinese symbolic elements. To the east of the entrance are inscribed Chinese characters meaning longevity in 100 styles. The garden in front of the building features all basic components of a typical Chinese garden: Taihu rocks, bridge, pond, pavilion and flowers, etc. Something special in the garden is the stone pavilion in Islamic style, unadorned but exotic.

If you are at all interested in visual arts and fashion design, M50 is the most spectacular destination in Shanghai. Named after the address of the park, e.g., No. 50 in Moganshan Road, the M50 Creative Park is the home to dozens of buildings housing gallery, studio, workshops and cafes.

The park is reconstructed based on the site of an old factory of China’s traditional textile industry, the Chunming Yarn Spinning Factory, along the Suzhou Creek.

Since it was targeted at being an spearheading experimental site of creation industry after the ol factory stopped to run, the park has attracted more than 140 enterprises from 20 countries and regions and many areas in China to move onto its premise. Established artists are next to emerging artists and there are creators from Europe, Asia and North America. It is now the city’s largest and most influential creative industry center.
