The Roman Villa at Casale was built between the end of the 3th century A.D. and the beginning of the 4th century A.D. as the centre of a vast imperial latifundium. The monument, included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1997, contains the greatest complex of Roman mosaics in the world (mq 3500).

Alghero is a city in the north-western Sardinia, in the province of Sassari famous for its Catalan-Gothic architecture preserved in buildings like Santa Maria Cathedral and Saint Francis Church. Founded in the XII c. by the Doria family from Genoa in XIV c. it went into Catalan-Aragonese hands. In the XIX c. became known as a center of coral fishing. After the Second World War Alghero became the first Sardinian city to be touched by "mass" tourism - the first visitors were mostly the ex RAF pilots, who during the 1943 bombing from their airplanes managed to have a glimpse of the coast around the city. Today Alghero is one of the principal tourism destinations in Sardinia. It has a huge tourist port and the airport Fertilia is just few kilometers away. Things to do here are: visit the old town (specially the picturesque ramparts), have some fresh sea food with local wine and buy coral souvenirs. The sandy long beach Maria Pia is practically in the town. If you are interested in archeology you can visit the nuraghe Palmavera and ancient  tombs of Anghelu Ruiu. 

Porto Cervo is an unofficial capital of the Emerald Coast. Home to the CS Yacht Club and Consorzio Costa Smeralda. It's Piazzetta delle Chiacchiere (The Rumor Square) is a meeting point for the rich holiday-makers .If you are lucky enough  you may see Bruce Willis or Magic Johnson sipping a drink just next to you. If you fancy an elegant shopping (Harrods, Bulgari, Prada etc) it's the right place to be.

Pitti Palace is a beautiful palace built in the renaissance style and it dates back to mid 15th century. As it is to assume, it got its name by a rich owner, a banker Luca Pitti. A century later, it was bought by word wide known noble family, the Medici and the palace became their residence.

Another important man set his foot in this palace. Napoleon used this palace as his base in the 18th century. The palace is open to the public and it contains some art galleries.

The palace has a beautiful large and decorated courtyard that leads to the garden.

Certainly, this palace is not to be missed when in Florence.

Long time ago, Sicily was possessed by the Greeks. They built there numerous temples which today contribute to tourism. Valley of the temples is located near Agrigento.  It is sort of archaeological park with eight temples built about 500 years BC.

These eight temples are as follows: the Temple of Hera, the Temple of Concordia, the Temple of Heracles, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, the Temple of Castor and Pollux, the Temple of Hephaestos, the Temple of Demeter, and the Temple of Asclepius.

The Temple of Hera is also called the Temple of Juno. It contains many of its original pillars even though some were restored afterwards.

The Tempe of Concord enters in the competition of the most preserved temples of this kind in the world.  It is a Doric temple. It was built by the Carthaginians. Later on it was converted into a church. There is also a legend that says that a wedding couple who visit this temple on their wedding day will have a peaceful life.

The Temple of Heracles or the Temple of Hercules is called so by modern people even though that there exist no evidence of its original name. It is the second largest temple in the valley. It got its name for the statue of Heracles.

The Temple of Olympian Zeus (Tempio di Giove Olimpico) was once the most famous and largest temple on Sicily. It was completed in the 5th century BC.

The Temple of Castor and Pollux (Tempio dei Dioscuri. Castor and Pollux were the twin brothers, sons of Leda and Zaus (Jupiter) and the temple is dedicated to them.

These Roman ruins, in fact ruins of roman pillars are located right in fron to the Basilica of San Lorenzo. These pillars date back to the 2nd century AD and pertained to Roman temple. They were somehow moved from their previous location durinf the 4th century.

The pillars are built in marble and there are seventeen pillars altogether. Numerous visitors who visit the famous Basilica stand and take pictures in front of the Roman pillars.

Knowing how old is the basilica, these pillars take you even more in the past.

The Milan cathedral is one of most recognizable landmarks of Italy and Milan, of course. Just by looking at the picture one can notice its greateness and outstanding decoration work. Many would be surprised hearing that it took about six centuries to finish its construction. It is also important to emphasize that this is one of five greatest cathedrals in the world and that it is THE largest cathedral in Italy.

It is a cathedral built in gothic style and dominates the entire square, the Cathedral square or in Italian Piazza del Duomo. Gian Galeazzo Visconti founded it and he planned to build the world´s largest cathedral. 

This cathedral hold an impressive number of statues on its exterior. Many artists and sculptors dedicated their entire career to the construction and decoration of the cathedral´s exterior. Even today, this cathedral has the highest number of statues in the world. There are 3159 statues and he most recognizable is surely the statue of Madonnina located on the top of the front facade. This statue is built in copper but it was lately covered with numerous gold leafs.

The interior of the cathedral is no less impressive. It is spacious church with five naves and divided by 52 pillars. Even inside one can notice many works of art by world famous artists.

Visitors are even allowed to for to the cathedral´s roof and take a look from what was once the highest point in the city.
