Located in the north of Haizi Village and on the eastern side of Pinggu District, Jinhai (Golden Sea) Lake is about 85 kilometers away from the city center of Beijing, sitting of the tip of a triangle that connects Beijing, Tianjin and Tangshan and surrounded by mountain on three sides (east, west and north).

Also known as Golden Sea Lake, it borrows this name from the nearby Grand Gold Hill, which is well-known for being a rich gold resource. The Jinhai Lake site includes the Haizi Reservoir and a 27 square kilometer surrounding area. Haizi Reservoir covers a surface of 6.6 square kilometers and is the 3rd largest reservoir in Beijing with a capacity of 120 million liters of water. Initially erected in 1959, it was rebuilt in 1968 and expanded in 1974. The Jinhai Lake site first opened to the public in 1985 and has become quite a popular destination since then.

Featured Attractions:

Camel Peak is one of the most famous spots in Jinhai Lake. Legend has it that a camel convoy was passing by this spot in the 17th century. Suddenly earth cracked underneath their feet and all camels but one fell in a huge hole that was formed. The very one that escaped the hole fell on the top of the hill and its legs got stuck between the rocks of the hill. That is how Camel Peak was formed. Sunset is the best time to view Camel Peak and you can take gorgeous pictures of the peak in a pink and orange background.

Placed on the top of Lanyu Hill, Huguang Tower is another popular site of Jinhai Lake. More than 30 meters high, this seven-storey tower is built in an octagon structure. It bears 56 bells –one placed on each corner of the tower- which rings in the wind and it consists of 168 decorative animal heads made out of clay.

Heng Hill holds the place of the most impressive site around the area. Furnished with pines and cypresses, its shape resembles a dragon diving into the lake. Various caves and fascinating rock formations make hiking on this hill an amazing experience. There are two huge giant footsteps according to a legend that the Immortal Erlang stepped on the hill. But that’s not the only story that comes with this place. It is also believed that this was the very place where two Taoists, Dong and Ge, fashioned pills of immortality in ancient times by capturing vital energy from the hill.

Qinglong Mountain Scenic Area is located at Dawangwu Village in Donggaocun Town in Pinggu, only 60 km from the urban areas of Beijing.

Inside the scenic area, there is Yuyang International Ski Resort and the Eco-Garden Restaurant and others. There is a hill at the foot of Qinglong Mountain. The center of the hill is wide and the back of it protrudes, like a dustpan used in a farmhouse and also like a palm of a man. Therefore, it is called “dustpan palm”.

Inside the valley is overwhelmed by vague light and mists. Walking towards the hill, you will be welcomed by bright light. The things around you are like lotus petals which cluster into a shape of a lotus cushion seated by a Buddha. Standing there, you will see everything of Pinggu’s scenery. At this moment, your heart is in peace and you have nothing to worry about. Jingdong Great Limestone Cave is located in the east part of Heidouyu Village in Pinggu District, 90 kilometers away from the city proper of Beijing. With beautiful natural landscapes, it is reputed as the "First Cave under the Sun".

While inside the cave, you can see several dozens of sites such as the "Long Hui Tian Shu", "Water Curtain Cave", "Xiangsi Fountain" and so on. The cave was formed more than 1.5 billion years ago with splendid views of stalagmite, stalactite, stone pipe, stone flower and so on. Besides, it also has very good accommodations and entertainment facilities such as ropeway, racecourse, whiffing garden, swimming pool and so forth.

Featured Attractions: Jingdong Great Limestone Cave is situated in Pinggu District. It is known as the Number One Ancient Cave under Heaven because of the grotesque rocks in the cave and its length of existence over 1.5 billion years old as estimated by scientists. In the cave there are various limestone formations, such as tubes, bamboo shoots, pearls, stalactites, pagodas, figures, animals, and flowers. The most eye-catching scene in the cave is a natural limestone relief of vivid dragons and inscriptions. It is the ideal place for visitors to enjoy mountain climbing, rock climbing, cycling, and etc. It is the one of the oldest eroded caves in the world. As a national AAAA-level tourist spot, the cave is the most popular spot in Pinggu District.

Beijing Wildlife Park is a large Ecological Park that specializes in animal protection, animal saving and wildlife training and reproduction. The park covers an area of 3,600 acres and brings together more than 10,000 rare wild animals of 200 species, including some very rare ones such as golden monkeys, green-tailed monals and brown-tailed monals and bustards as well.

In this park, you can watch animal shows by the elephants, golden monkeys, and various birds, like in most theme parks. After the show, it takes only 2 minutes to reach the bus for a 30 minutes tour that takes you around the parts of the park with dangerous animals from the wild, including lions, wolves, African hunting dogs, tigers, bears, baboons, wild boars, connochaetes, Oryx gazella, etc. At the end of the tour, you can take pictures with colorful parrots or marvel at how smart they are to take the big bills of money from your hand instead of the small ones. You can also watch many of the birds on display which are facing extinction. Special tropical bird exhibitions are arranged in the middle of the tour next to an area where you could feed and even talk to birds while they fly everywhere around you. What makes the Safari experience completely different from any other zoo is, for the first time, you can see the animals and birds engaging in their natural active lives, prowling, hunting, grazing, pecking and playing.

With an area of about 20,000 square meters, Wendu Water City is one of the most advanced water relaxation centers in Asia, all on the theme of water and in the form of point-supported glass curtain walls with a curved roof which can be opened in summer and the Water Space has a capacity of 3,000 people. The sunshade shutters on the south side is adjustable to control the access of sunlight. The Water Space offers standard indoor swimming pools, artificial waves, skateboard surfing, space basin, competitive speed skating, drifting channel, interactive water house, beach, children's pool, family interaction area, food and beverage area, semi-groundwater cafe, store, leisure area, VIP rooms, etc.

It is worth mentioning the masterly design of the lifting stage in the water, which is used for holding distinctive singing and dancing performances (often with a water theme), goes along together with water weddings, fashion shows and other large-scale activities. The indoor and outdoor pools flow into one another, as does the outdoor swimming pools and the 12 hot spring spa pools. The indoor and outdoor spaces mingle with and provide a background for one another, bringing about rich content and distinct aspects to the this large-scale water space for families, children and adolescents. The Water Space is connected with the Hot Spring Healthy Clubhouse and the cafeteria on the second floor of Commercial Street through a linking glass aisle.

To the north of the Water Space, there is a large-scale parking lot which can hold up to 586 cars and 23 coach buses. An 140 meter long fountain has been set up along the main road with a water column of up to 12 meters. Flaming pillars, which are water-spraying giant whales made of syenite and a jumping spring arcade have been built along both sides of the main entrance and directly accesses to the circular main entrance of the Water Space.

On May 20th, 2005, the former “Copper Well” in Prince’s Palace was found at the north entrance of the water space. It is said that the “Copper Well” used to supply drinking water specifically for the Pingxi Prince. The walls of the well was built with grey bricks by imperial orders under a special baking process so it makes the well’s golden yellow coating on the surface is still clearly visible to this day. According to the analysis of historical data, the yellow coating might be copper paint, which would explain the name of “Copper Well”. The depth of the Well is 7.2 meters and the depth of the water is 3.19m. The well water is cool, crystal and sweet and can be drunk directly from the Well.

Built in 1998, the Xiaotangshan Modern Agricultural Science Demonstration Park was officially named Changping National Agricultural Park by six ministries including the Ministry of Science and Technology in 2001. It is one of 36 national agricultural parks and the only agricultural science demonstration park in Beijing.

In past years, the park has won nine national titles including "National Agricultural Science Park", "Imported Technologies Promotion and Demonstration Base", "Demonstration Site of Industrial Tourism and Agritourism", and "National Education Base of Popular Science". It also holds the titles "Beijing Municipal Base of Popular Science Education", and "Beijing Municipal Base of Patriotic Education".

The park covers a planned area of 111.4 square kilometers, with a core area of 30 square kilometers, which is centered on Daliushu Roundabout. The park involves four towns: Xiaotangshan, Xingshou, Cuicun and Baishan. It is the first modern agriculture project approved by Beijing Municipal Commission for Urban Planning that integrates agricultural planning with small township construction. The park has defined its role as "demonstrating modern agricultural science, fostering the development of neighboring areas, and promoting agritourism." It is a center of excellence in modern agriculture and technology and in optimizing agricultural industry to increase farmers' income.

In recent years, seven sections and one garden have been completed: (1) a state-of-the-art sapling cultivation section; (2) an agricultural production section with a 3S positioning system; (3) an aquatic section breeding sturgeons and Tilapias; (4) a feed and food processing section; (5) a holiday resort section featuring hot springs, spa, and gym; (6) an organic fruit and vegetables growing section; (7) a fresh flowers and gardening section, and a flora seeds and seedling cultivation garden (the central garden).

The park is open to tourists all year round. Tourists can learn the latest and advanced agricultural science and visit large greenhouses with various precious flowers, vegetables, and fruits grown in them, and have the chance to pick fresh fruit and experience a type of modern agriculture. Have you ever felt like the entire city is weighing on your shoulders? Or that the pressures of life are just getting too much? Well maybe the answer is to escape to the easily reachable, nearby suburbs of Changping just outside central Beijing and find a little slice of pampering in the hot springs of Tianlong Yuan (天龙源).

Tianlong Yuan means “source of the Heavenly Dragon” and the source of thermal vents that feed these hot springs feel like they are warmed from the center of the earth by the heavenly dragon itself. There is a 600 square meters shower and sauna room and an over 900 square meter bathing area.

The main hall is designed in an arch shape and, upon entering your attention will be drawn to the huge stone 'Lotus Pool' in the center. Around the edge are smaller pools with varying temperatures. The water is a mixture of cooler water from the surrounding mountains and heated water from thermal vents beneath the ground. You have the choice of taking a dip in the main swimming pool or relax in one of the many smaller thermal pools available both indoors and outdoors. They even have their own hot springs herbalist on hand to assist with the use of the Chinese medicine pools.

However, the best reason to visit Tianlong Yuan is for the wave machine! China Aviation Museum is about 40 miles north of Beijing and located at the foot of fascinating Xiao Tang Hill in Changping District. On November 11, 1989, it was opened to the public in the 40th Anniversary year of the Founding of Air Force of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. On April, 1991, the air force official ratified its name as the "Air Force Aviation Museum".

In the foreign exchanges, it is called as the China Aviation Museum. The museum was founded on part of an airbase; the runways are a mile distance and are connected to the museum by a long taxiway, which is also used as access for the traffic. Next to the museum, the taxiway continues up a hill. On the hill is a large U-shaped tunnel, which during the operational days of this part of the airbase undoubtedly sheltered numerous aircrafts. Nearby the taxiway, there are some aprons and a hangar, so there is room for many, many aircraft, mostly military but also some civil ones.

The museum is divided into three large exhibition areas: Cavern Exhibition Hall, Open-air Exhibition Area, and Integrated Hall.

Cavern Exhibition Hall: The Cavern Exhibition Hall is situated to the south of the mark with an area of 20,000 square meters (5 acres). In this hall the exhibits range from ancient manned flight inventions to modern high-speed high-altitude fighter planes, which form a magnificent illustration of its development history. These exhibits are placed on two sides in chronological order. The right side not only exhibits aircraft which are famous in Chinese aviation history, such as Fengru II, Leshiwen I and Lienin, but also displays a variety of models of aircraft manufactured by the former Soviet Union, the United States, France, Japan, Canada, Czech Republic, such as Japanese 99 advanced trainer aircraft, Soviet-built Wave -2, La -9, La-11, Yak -17, American-made P-51, L-5 aircraft. The left side is a series of modern aircrafts produced by China. The rear of the hall exhibits radar, missiles, artilleries, etc.

Open-air Exhibition Area: As you walk to the north from the mark, you cannot miss the Open-air Exhibition Area. The Hero Avenue runs through the Open-air Exhibition Area, which divides the area into two parts. There is an artificial lake on the left of the Hero Avenue. On the southern side of the lake planes which were used specially by great people are displayed, while on the northern side of the lake, bombers and special types of aircraft are displayed. The right side of the Hero Avenue exhibits fighter planes, cargo-transport planes, surface to air missiles, antiaircraft artillery, radar and helicopters.

Integrated Hall: All the way down to the Hero Avenue, a sword sculpture comes into view. Behind the sculpture lies the Integrated Hall. In this hall it displays 28 practicalities of aircraft, over 550 models of various aircraft, missiles, antiaircraft artillery, radar etc. More than 200 pieces of small cultural relics, 20 audio and video demo tablets, 12 sand table scenes and 1850 pictures and photos can be seen. On the west side of the Integrated Hall lays a CS field camp, where you can have an unforgettable experience.

At present, the aviation museum has collected more than 200 airplanes with types exceeding 100, and weapon and equipped samples like ground-air missile, high cannon, radar, aviation bomb and aviation cameras. Among which, lots of them are precious cultural relics of the country as well as are world aviation treasure works.

Located 30 kilometers north of Changping District proper, the Yinshan Pagoda Forest is a site of cultural heritage listed by the State Council for key protection at the national level and an important component part of the Badaling-Ming Tombs Protection Zone of Scenic Spots and Historic Sites.

The Yinshan Mountains got its name from the snow and ice covering it in winter. It is also known as the Iron-wall Silver Hills because of its iron-looking precipices. It was known as one of the eight most beautiful scenic spots in Beijing during the Ming and the Qing dynasties. The mountains have three peaks thrusting into the clouds. Of the three, the middle peak outstands the other two with an altitude of 726.81 meters above the sea level.

In the Tang Dynasty, some temples including the Huayan Temple were built here. During the years of the reign of Emperor Xianzong of the Tang Dynasty (806-820 A.D.), Deng Yinfeng, a famous monk, practiced Buddhism here. During the years of the reign of Emperor Shouchang of the Liao Dynasty (1095-1101 A.D.), Man Gong, a Zen master, created the Temple of Precious Rock here. Later, three other Zen masters came here to practice and preach Buddhism. During the years of the reign of Emperor Tianhui of the Jin Dynasty (1123-1135 A.D.), Hai Hui (~1145 A.D.), a reputed monk of the Yunmen Sect, came and settled down here. In the third year of the reign of Emperor Tianhui, he expanded the temple into a complex of halls arranged in three rows and named it the Great Temple of Perpetual Holiness. Later, five multi-eave brick pagodas were built between the vermilion steps of the halls to hold the sariraof reputed monks of the Jin Dynasty.

In order to enrich the tourist items here, the Ming Tombs Special Zone Administration has been investing nearly RMB 1 million per year since 1998 to build a number of projects here, including a path leading to the top of the middle peak, a sightseeing platform, a lake and a restaurant. The Yinshan Pagoda Forest has now been listed by the China National Tourism Administration as a 4-A scenic spot and passed ISO9001 and ISO4001 certification for quality and environment management. The Yinshan Pagoda Forest will greet tourists from both home and aboard with high-quality services and heartfelt warmth.
