The Howling Hill, 12 kilometers east to the city proper of Shaoxing, is also known as Dog Hill (Goushan). It's said to be the place, back some 2,400 years ago in the Warring States, Goujian, king of conquered state Yue, had dogs raised to hunt white deers as tribute to please king of Wu, Yue's suzerain. Goujian stooped to conquer for years and his state finally took hegemony.
