Coal Hill Park
Coal Hill Park is behind the Forbidden City. Also it's located in the center of Beijing. After the visiting of the Forbidden City, you must to go to visit the Coal Hill Park. When you climb up on the top of the hill, you can see the whole view of the Forbidden City. It's really spectacular.
Walk from the Northern Gate of the Forbidden City 2 minutes. Bus no.5 to western gate of Coal Hill Park. No.111、124 to Eastern gate of Coal Hill Park.

In 1179 Emperor Shi Zu of the Jin Dynasty stored here the earth removed from the construction site of Taining Palace. During the Yuan Dynasty the mount was enclosed in the wall of the palace. In 1421 the emperor of the Ming Dynasty began to rebuild Beijing as the national capital. The debris of the torn-down old palace and the earth dredged from the moat were dumped upon the earthern mount. Trees were planted and some buildings erected. The mount was named the Hill of 10,000 Years and became an imperial garden to the north of the imperial Palace. In 1644 a peasant uprising army led by Li Zicheng took Beijing. Emperor Chong Zhen fled to Jingshan and hanged himeself on a tree.

The Coal Hill Park lies right to the north of the Palace Museum. It used to be a private garden of the imperial family. When the Imperial Palace was built in the early Ming Dynasty, the earth excavated to make the moat was piled up, and five peaks took shape. Coal was once heaped around the foot of the hill, it is therefore also known as Coal Hill.

It Is the Ming and Qing two generations of the regency. Park is located in the central axis of Beijing city in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the park center of Jingshan Hill, was the commanding height of the whole city.

The last emperor of the Ming Dynasty, Chongzhen, committed suicide by hanging himself here in 1644.

Chinese Yuan dynasties, there is a mini-mound called Castle, Yuanta belong within the scope of the Court. Ming Dynasty when Beijing to build the palace, was here over the heap of coal, so called Meishan.
