The ancient SuoYang Castle is located 68 km southeast of Guazhou county, Gansu province,which is far away from dunhuang 180 km. It was listed as one of the fourth batch of national key cultural relics protection units by the State Council in 1996 . In 2014 it was included into the world heritage list  by UNESCO. At beginning SuoYang Castle was built in the Han dynasty around 2000 years ago, and it was rebuilt in Tang dynasty around 7 century. Until to the 11th century, the caste was abandoned.

The castle consists two parts : outer city and inner city. The outer city covers 800,000 square meters,and the inner city covers 280,000 square meters. The most intact military defense system,agricultural irrigation and water conservancy system in ancient China were preserved in this caste ruins, which fully embodies the defensive characteristics of frontier cities in hexi corridor along the ancient silk road and reflect Suoyang castle played an important role to guarantee the traffic security for the long transportation of the silk road. In the castle area, the ruins of old town site, Buddhist temples, ancient canal system, tombs and other relics of ancient land reclamation area can be still found clearly as well.
