Can Gio Mangrove Island

Reconnect with nature with our trip to Can Gio, a UNESCO biosphere reserve located in the coastal district 40 kilometers outside of Ho Chi Minh City, making it an ideal destination for a day trip get away, especially by motorbike. Regarded as the “green lungs” of the city, it is lively with mangrove forests and tropical forest life like monkeys, gibbons and crocodiles. On the historical side, it was a very important base for Viet Cong during the war. Learning about the past while boating through the vast forests and swamp, inhaling the fresh air and rediscover the simplicities of life, and enjoy a local meal with fresh seafood make it a worthwhile experience.

Itinerary:

• Leaving the bustling city of Saigon behind, we head South to Hiep Phuoc port.
• Observe local people and shrimp farms along the way, enjoy scenic roads of the area to reach Rung Sac (mangrove forest) well-known as Viet Cong base during the war.
• Take a boat ride along canals naturally covered with mangrove into the Dam Doi (Bat Swamp).
• Get on the row boat to get closer to the Eco Reserve area. Have you ever tried to fish for crab by a fishing rod? You can try your luck right here.
• Reach the core of the Biosphere Reserve of Vam Sat forest where we will visit the crocodile farm and bird reserve.
• Delicious seafood lunch and rest.
• Learn how to pass the Cau Khi (Monkey bridge made of 1 or 2 single bamboos poles) as locals do. You cannot miss the panoramic view from the Tang Bong tower. It’s great for photos.
• In the afternoon, a speed boat takes us back to Rung Sac, we then hop back on the motorbikes to Can Gio beach to visit the lively local seafood market.
• The ride back to Ho Chi Minh city via the ferry gives an interesting experience on how to use the local transportation.

CAN GIO MANGROVE HIGHLIGHT - ITINERARY (8 hours)

I will pick you up at the lobby of your hotel in Ho Chi Minh city. My car with fully air-conditional would be ready for you outside the hotel to depart to Can Gio Mangrove Forest. Go through Binh Khanh Ferry our car will drive you straight to Can Gio Mangrove Forest in around 2 hours. If you notice on the way to Can Gio, there will be beautiful and wet green trees along the road and the weather will be very different compare to Ho Chi Minh city. 

• You will have a leisure time to discover the mangrove forest, breath some fresh air and get to know the local people daily lifestyle along the river banks. You can also know about the typical flora of mangrove forests and the other types of fauna at the local fishing hamlet. Moreover, you will have a chance to go through the mangrove forest on a canoe to visit the famous Reserve Bats Lagoon and the crab pond, before seeing and feeding a very friendly herd of deer. 

• Visit a crocodile farm where you will know the how to catch crocodiles and see them living in natural environment. 

• After crocodile, I will bring you to Vam Sat mangrove forest to have panoramic picture and challenge you to cross the suspension bridge.

• Then I will bring you to the fresh seafood place or Vietnamese restaurant for lunch before heading to one of the most interesting but scary part of the tour is Monkey Island. Can Gio Mangrove Forest is now keeping and training more than 1000 monkeys in Monkey Island which will surprise you because of the quantity and also how smart the monkeys are. You can feed the monkey with food and take photos, while they surround you and even climb up on your shoulder.

• ​After having fun with the monkeys, they will say goodbye to you and you will be escorted to the hotel safely to prepare for your upcoming journey.
