Fenghuang County (凤凰县; literally: “phoenix county”) is under the administration of Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Hunan province, China, bordering the prefecture-level cities of Huaihua to the southeast and Tongren (Guizhou) to the west. It has an exceptionally well-preserved ancient town that harbors unique ethnic languages, customs, arts as well as many distinctive architectural remains of Ming and Qing styles. The town is placed in a mountain setting, incorporating the natural flow of water into city layout. Over half of the city’s population belong to the Miao or Tujia minorities. It was the center of the unsuccessful Miao Rebellion (1854–73), which created a Miao diaspora in Southeast Asia during the last two centuries. The city is revered in Miao traditions and funeral rites and is the location of the Southern China Great Wall (中国南方长城; 中國南方長城; ), a fortification built by the Ming dynasty to protect the local Han Chinese from Miao attacks.

Known as one of the most beautiful towns in China, Fenghuang in Hunan is a classic example of a water city comprised of gracefully curving bridges, stilted houses, and boats skimming through the canals.

Sometimes called Phoenix Ancient Town, Fenghuang lies on the banks of the Tuo Jiang River and its Miao people derive much of their livelihood from its waters.
Despite its popularity with tourists, the town remains as a kind of living museum for simpler times.

Having only one day in any city can be stressful. You often leave thinking: “Did I get to see everything I wanted to see? What did I miss? And could I have used my time more efficiently?”
Here are some helpful tips that will help you get the most out of a single day in any city:

Here are some helpful tips that will help you get the most out of a single day in any city:
1. Be Organized
Organization is key in getting the best out of one day in any city. It’s important to know what attractions you want to see and understand what genuinely interests you. Don’t go to the Louvre because you feel you “have to” if you’d really rather be strolling along the Seine! You also need to decide whether you would like to enter all of the attractions and museums or whether there are some you can miss, or just see from the outside. If your priority is an in-depth look at one or two museums, then make that your day. But if there are multiple sights you want to see, you’ll need to limit the length of time you spend in any one location, and realize you may just have to go back for a longer visit at a later date!
2. Know How To Cut Corners
Knowing how to cut corners is essential to fitting in as much as you can in a single day in any city. There are several things you can do to ensure no time is wasted and that you get to experience the very best of the city you are visiting!
• The first thing you can do is ask friends or family that have visited the area for any suggestions they may have. This includes what NOT to see. These personal recommendations can help you cut through all the noise online and reduce the amount of time you would otherwise spend researching the area. Asking a local guide to make suggestions or show you around is also a great idea.
• Accept that there’s no way you’re going to see EVERYTHING, no matter how well you plan – so make some tough decisions, cross off the lower priority places, and remember there can always be another time.
• Plan your sightseeing route carefully so you don’t end up wasting time in traffic, criss-crossing the city more than you need to.
• If you’re feeling more spontaneous, try taking a short walk around the area once you arrive and pick the places that you would like to go back and spend time at. If you’re a runner, there’s no better way to squeeze in some exercise and fast-paced sightseeing than with a scenic running route!
• If you would like to eat in a nice restaurant, do so in the evening once all your sightseeing is completed and the attractions are closed. Try picking up some casual food throughout the day at street stalls, bakeries or markets to save time and to experience authentic local snacks.
3. Get A Local Tour Guide!
Of course the obvious solution we’re going to suggest is to hire a local tour guide! These knowledgeable folks are absolute masters at helping you maximize your time in any city, especially if you only have one day. Local guides that will customize tours to visit the locations that you want to see. They know the best times to visit certain attractions to avoid long lines – often you can even skip the lines with a private guide! Having a local show you around means you can also get a more authentic experience of the place you are visiting, hearing stories and seeing places you otherwise would have missed.

Day 1 Zhangjiajie National Forest Park

Continuing to Tianzi Mountain, it takes you 40 minuts from Yuanjiajie to Tianzi Mountain by public bus, after arriving in Tianzi Mountain, you will have a bird’s-eye view of all the mountains and valleys of the Wuling Mountains. Visit Western Sea, Helong Park, Viewing Terrace etc.Take Tianzi cablecar down and check in hotel for a rest.

Day 2: Zhangjiajie national forest park: Huangshi Fort, Golden Whip Brook
After breakfast, you will take the cable car to Huangshi Fort which is 1092 meters above sea level. It is the biggest sightseeing platform to view the spectacular scenery in the national park. Later, explore the famous Golden Whip Brook which covers a distance of 7.5 km winding across mountains and valleys.

Day 3: Wulingyuan scenic area: Tianzi mountain, Yuanjiajie and Baofeng Lake
After breakfast, your guide and driver will pick you up and take you to Wulingyuaun Scenic Area to visit its two most classic and popular attractions. Take a cable car up to Tianzi mountain, and you will see large area of grotesque peaks thrusting up below. Walking along the steps, spectacular views unfold in front of you from different angels. In the afternoon, ride the public shuttle bus to Yuanjiajie Scenic Area, whose mountains are said to be the inspiration for Avatar's Hallelujah Mountain, and then take the shuttle bus for the Bailong elevator down the mountain. This glass elevator was built on the side of a cliff, and it claims to be the world's highest and fastest outdoor sightseeing elevator which takes only 1.5 minutes with 326 meters as the height.
After that, go to Baofeng lake that is a basin created by the terrain in the middle of this mountainous area. It is a leisurely experience as you boat on the clear water, see the hills of various shapes, and enjoy entertainment by the local minority people as they sing their traditional songs.

Day 4: Tianmen Mountain, drive to Fenghuang Ancient Town
After breakfast, take the longest cable car up to the top of Tianmen Mountain which got the name because of Tianmen hole(literally "heaven's gate) is a 131-meter-high hole formed naturally in the mountain like a doorway, well-known for being glided through by a world-class stuntman in a wing suit. To reach the hole, you can climb for about half an hour up the "stairway to heaven". Coming up to Tianmen mountain, Your heart will beat faster at on the world's longest cable car, the suspended glass walkway almost a mile(1,430 meters) above the ground, and the winding road with 99 curves.
In the afternoon, 4 hours drive to Fenghuang Ancient Town, enjoy the night view in the town with all lights and lanterns on.

Day 5: Fenghuan Ancient Town, Dehang Miao Village, Back to the next destination
After breakfast, wondering around in the ancient town with the cement pavements and characteristic wooden buildings (Diaojiaolou).
In the afternoon, drive back to Zhangjiajie while on the way back, explore Dehang Miao Village which refers to "beautiful valley" to get an interactive with local Miao-minority people in person.

Highlights: Huangshizhai---Golden Whip Stream---Charming Western Hunan Folk Show
Breakfast around 8:00 in the early morning, transfer to Zhangjiajie national forest park, which is famous for its pillar-like peaks and exquisite forests. Get ready for some jaw-dropping panoramic views on your hiking advebtures Huangshizhai, in English Yellow stone stronghold. It’s the largest summit platform in the park, there are numerous lookout points for stunning views, from which you can see nearly half of the peaks of Zhangjiajie, there is a popular saying goes like that if you don't visit Huangshizhai, you can't claim that you have come to Zhangjiajie. Have a brief lunch on the top of mountain. In the afternoon, enjoy a beautiful hiking along the golden whip stream. With a length of 7.5km, Golden Whip Stream is famous for its pristine water, its verdant mountains, its steep cliffs and its serene valley, and it was reputed as one ‘of the most beautiful valleys’ in the world, walking along the stream for 2.5 hours. Highlights: Yuanjiajie---Tianzi mountain—Shilihualang
Departure around 8:00 in the morning, enter into the national park by taking eco-bus, take elevator up to Yuanjiajie scenic area, which is now famous for the shooting place of the fantastic movie---Avata. We can see the floating Avata-Hallelujah mountain, No.1 nature bridge and Mihun platform and so on. Simple lunch on the top of mountain, then visit Tujia Folk Village, from which you can have a brief understanding of the ancient hunting life-style of Tujia nationality, then take the eco-bus to Tianzi Mountain, known as 'the Monarch of the Peak Forest', where is a perfect location to have a panoramic view of the nature reserve, you can enjoy He long park, western peak forest sea. Finish the day around 5:00pm.Dinner will be arranged in local restaurant.
Day 4
Highlights: Yellow Dragon Cave---- Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon
Breakfast in the hotel, transfer to Yellow dragon cave. It is the longest one in Asia; it is an incomparable realm of gigantic subterranean chambers, fantastic cave formations, and extraordinary features. After the cave transfer to Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon, Situated in Sanguansi, cili county Zhangjiajie city, 10 km east to Wulingyuan world natural heritage site, the canyon is a new discovered spots in Zhangjiajie, which is well-known for the fresh air and crystal waterfall, 3 hours to finish it.
Day 5
Highlights: Baofeng lake---Tujia folk park---Old Yard---Sandstone painting gallery
Check out from the hotel around 8:00, enjoy a peaceful boat riding on the beautiful Baofeng lake. Being located high up in the mountains, the lake catches some of the first and purest runoff water from the mountain peaks. Its height also guarantees an air freshness, Baofeng Lake is supported by lush green trees and shrub-clad stone peaks of various shapes that enclose the lake and give it a fairytale-like atmosphere. Transfer back to Zhangjiajie, have visit to Tujia folk park and the Old yard, which has more than 300 hundred years history, enjoy the history and the traditional life of Tujia nationality. After that, we can have a visit to Junsheng sandstone paiting gallery to enjoy the unique artist work----sandstone painting, which is created by a local Tujia painter named Li junsheng. Day 6
Highlights: Tianmen Mountain---Fairy fox show
Arriving in Zhangjiajie in the morning, a warm welcome from your guide and driver, transfer to Tianmen Mountain, take half an hour riding on the longest cable-car in the world (about 7.5 km) directly reach the top of Tianmen mountain. Have a breathless walking along the glass plank-road against the cliff. Tianmen cave, the natural mountain-penetrating karst cave with the highest elevation in the world, hangs on the towering cliff. There are many graceful trees, karts hillocks and medicinal herbs and plants on the mountain. (about 5-6 hours sightseeing activies in Tianmen Mountain). Fresh up in the hotel, get ready for the beautiful and moving night show.
Day 7
Highlights: Furong town----Red Stone Forest----Zuolongxia Gorge
Check out from the hotel in the morning, transfer 1.5 hours to Furong town, Furong Town is originally named Wangcun, about 90km away from Zhangjiajie center city. It is an ancient town where Tujia minority live together.The famous movie Furong Town directed by Xiejin is shot here. After the we finish Furong town, transfer to the Red Stone Forest, which is famous for its distinctive rock formation, lovely personal image of the rocks, full of astonishments. Zuolongxia gorge is a adventure spot testing your gut, the plank road built in the in-depth valley against cliff, challenging but not dangerous, but you have to go all out to get along with iron rope chain, listening to the roaring water below the stream , marvel at spectacutar scenery. Highlights: Dehang Miao village---Fenghuang ancient city

Dehang is a Miao language means “beautiful valley”, because of the unique landscape with highly straight cliffs and overlapped peaks, Dehang become a beautiful valley with lots of peaks, waterfalls and an area of virgin forest, with some rivers staggered in the region, owned a pleasant climate and rich of flora and fauna. On the way there, you can marvel at the world most breathtaking bridge, Aizhai tunnel to tunnel suspension bridge, which is newly completed. Hiking along the farm road of the Miao village, reach the highest waterfall in the world----Liusha waterfall, experience the true life of Miao people. Hiking in the valley around 3 hours. Transfer to Fenghuang ancient city.

Highlights: South China Great Wall------Changsha
Check out form the hotel, transfer 30 minutes to the South China Great Wall. South China great wall locates in Xiangxi Tujia & Miao people autonomous prefecture, it become famous because it is only military defence wall in south China, it spans 190km long over the mountain ridge, it start in Fenghuang county, span most part in Fenghuang and end in Tingzi pass Guizhou province.it was built in Ming dynasty with the investment of central government to seperate Miao people,it was dicovered in year 2000 after many year of isolation. Transfer 6 hours to Changsha, check inton the hotel in Changsha.

Highlights: Yuelu Academy
Check out in the morning, transfer to Yuelu Academy----“one-thousand-year-old academy” which was established in Northern Song dynasty and has witnessed a history of more than one thousand years without a break. Visit the academy 1.5 hours, then transfer to Huanghua airport, finish the pleasant trip in Hunan.
