Over the Bridge Noodles is possibly the most famous and notable culinary treat local to Kunming. When ordering these noodles, the customer has many options that range from the bare-bones 6 RMB bowl to more extravagant options that can cost more than 30 RMB. With any choice, the customer is first served a steaming hot bowl of chicken broth. The customer is then given a host of small plates of meats, tofu, and other things to cook in the broth. Lastly, a bowl of rice noodles is added into the mix. The difference in price varies with the quantity and selection of the small plates given. This authors recommends that Western diners choose the cheapest option for three reasons:
1) Some of the more expensive options often include items that most Westerners will not want to eat, such as chicken feet
2) The increases in price does not usually reflect in a comparable increase of enjoyment
3) Over the Bridge Noodles are not overwhelmingly special.
In the author’s opinion, Over the Bridge Noodles are certainly worth a try, but there are better options for noodles in Kunming. This is particularly true, because the most popular outlet for finding these noodles is at one of the many The Brothers Jiang locations around Kunming. This franchise unfortunately serves the lowest quality Over the Bridge Noodles of any of the options in town. In short, The Brothers Jiang is like Over the Bridge Noodles fast food - if you are going to give these noodles a try, you are better off finding a different restaurant and increase your chances of enjoying them. Often a seemingly out of the way, unassuming noodle joint might be your best bet for trying Over the Bridge Noodles.

The Orchid Pavilion is 13 kilometers away from the city center. During the Chunqiu dynasty, the king of Yue planted orchids here and later a pavillion was constructed here during the Han dynasty. Thus, there is a pretty simple explanation for the name of this popular tourist attraction today. The Orchid Pavilion is Shaoxing’s most famous landmark. Visitors have been making the journey to see the Orchid Pavillion for more than 1600 years. In 353 A.D., the noted calligrapher Wang Xizhi wrote some of his celebrated calligraphy here. Since then, the Orchid Pavilion has been known as a home of Calligraphy.
The main sights in the Orchid Pavilion are: the Goose Pool Stele, the Orchid Pavilion Stele, the Orchid Pavilion River, and the Calligraphy Museum. The Goose Pool Stele was created by the calligrapher Wang Xizhi and his son Wang Xianzhi. Wang Xizhi’s favourite animal was the goose, and the goose theme is prevalent throughout the Orchid Pavilion. The Orchid Pavilion is not only one of the four famous pavilions in China, but is also a famed garden.

Along with the West Lake in Hangzhou and the South Lake in Jiaxing, Shaoxing’s East Lake make up the three most famous lakes in Zhejiang Province. The East Lake is smaller than its counterparts, but it is regarded as a magical lake by the Chinese. The combination of cliffs, grottos, and stone bridges is the reason why the East Lake deserves its magical reputation. Taking a boat ride on the East Lake, you can discover its natural beauty from a variety of viewpoints. You can also take the boat into the caves, and you will be simply awed by the scenery. From the mountain top beside East Lake, you can enjoy another unbeatable view of the "Oriental Venice".

While travelling through the lush green countryside of Jiangsu province no tourist should hurry past the charming city of Wuxi (无锡,pronounced "woo-shee"). For those who enjoy lingering a bit longer Wuxi is a great city to settle down, to be involved with, or to work or invest in. In a nutshell it is full of opportunities and friendly people.
The city was originally called "Youxi" - meaning "with tin" - until the tin was all mined. Now it is "Wuxi" - "without tin" - but maybe tin is the only thing that is missing from this modernized city with a long and interesting history.
The centre of Wuxi is a neat little city with busy streets and large department stores as well as a myriad of back streets and alleys full of tiny stalls, family businesses, and local people eager to please. A wealth of beautiful parks and peaceful gardens along with amazing scenery are just a short walk or brief bus ride away.

Wuxi Tourist Attractions
In China everything has a statistical number attached to it. The sign will say it is the biggest, or oldest, or even that it is the third or eight or twelfth biggest or most wondeful in this particular city or province.
Well, Wuxi can boast some pretty hefty “Number 1s" (or at least 2s or 3s) in tourism.
Many places boast a “Big Buddha”, but Wuxi’s bronze Ling Shan Buddha stands 88 metres tall and is a “must see”, along with the other attractions around his feet.
Lake Tai, or “Tai Hu”, is another marvel to behold. There are a number of exquisite gardens and other sites on and around the lake. For something really different you may choose to visit one or all of the movie sets on the shores of the lake.
Along with the great Buddha and Lake Tai there are the many waterways weaving their way around and through Wuxi. The Grand Canal is particularly special as it passes through the city on its way from Hangzhou to Beijing. The history of the Grand Canal is something well worth looking into as it was an incredible project undertaken by the Chinese. There are many beautiful gardens such as Li Yuan and the Plum Garden which bring pleasure and tranquility to all who wander through. Even in the city centre visitors will notice the close-by mountain peak which is part of the scenic delights in Xihui Park.

Wuhan (Wǔhàn [武汉]) is the capital of Hubei Province (湖北省). It lies at the confluence of the Changjiang River (Yangtze River [长江]) and Hanjiang Rivers (汉江) and it consists of three towns: Wuchang (Wǔchāng [武昌]), Hankou (Hànkǒu [汉口]), and Hanyang (Hànyáng [汉阳]) that face each other across the two rivers and are linked by two giant bridges. The name Wuhan comes from the combination of the names of the three districts (Wǔ + Hàn).
Wuhan Tourist Attractions
East Lake (Dong Hu, 东湖) and the Changjiang (Yangtze River, 长江) are the pearls of Wuhan.
Wuhan also boasts rich cultural relics. Guiyuan Buddhist Temple (Guiyuan Gu Sha, 归元古刹), Heptachord Terrace (Guqin Tai, 古琴台), Yellow Crane Tower (Huang He Lou, 黄鹤楼), and Hubei Provincial Museum (Hubei Sheng Bowuguan, 湖北省博物馆) can tell visitors the splendid history of Wuhan.
Wuhan International Tourist Festival (Wuhan Guoji Lvyou Jie, 武汉国际旅游节) and Plum Blossom Festival (Meihua Jie, 梅展节) are also must-sees if you are lucky enough to come to Wuhan at the right time of year.
Wuhan Restaurants
From restaurants to noodle-vendors, and pushcarts to hotel restaurants, most Chinese cities offer a greater variety of foods than you could ever imagine. The variety available in Wuhan reflects the city’s location between Shanghai and Chongqing. Famous local dishes include Steamed Wuchang Fish, Mianyang Three Steamed Dishes, Xiaotaoyuan Soup, Wangji (Chicken Soup), Hongshan Vegetable Bolts, Dongpo Pork and many others. Wuhan’s street food also includes “stinky tofu,” which, depending on who you ask, is either one of the most disgusting foods ever created or one of the most delicious and addictive snacks.
One characteristic of Chinese cities is that people love to eat out. However be careful about the hygiene conditions. If you are not so sure about your immune system, don’t eat out often.

Shanghai (上海) is a truly special city for both tourists and those that live here. It offers an interesting history and wonderful shopping, architecture, art, and food. This is a culture that is easy to adjust to and fall in love with, making the city a great place to visit many times. In the past five years Shanghai has risen to the status of a truly international city, with elements that are very Chinese mixed with significant components that most foreign visitors will recognize from home. Where else in the world can you easily spend hours shopping at one of the most expensive shopping malls in the world (Plaza 66) and then spend 50RMB for a fantastic local dinner? Unlike many cities in China and around the world, Shanghai has managed to maintain a balance between the western influence that caused this city’s growth in the early to mid 1900’s with the charming Shanghainese people, who offer warm and boisterous personalities that make this city exciting and in constant flux. In parts of the city you will find beautiful European architecture and cafes, in other parts you will find Chinese townhouses with storefronts selling delicious local street foods. In still other areas you will see futuristic architecture that you never imagined actually existed. This enormous city can be done in three days if it is all the time you have, but you could live here for years and never see it all. Come ready to explore and enjoy the everyday activities of this wild city that will impress and most likely change your opinion of China.
