Kiyomizudera Temple was founded in the late 8th century in the wooded hills east of Kyoto and today is a part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its present buildings are constructed in the first half of the 17th century. The name Kiyomazudera means ˝Pure Water Temple˝ and it got its name from the waterfall within the complex.
The main hall with its veranda has an amazing view on the city. Otowa waterfall in the three channels falls into a pond. Each stream of water has its own meaning. The complex has also the Okunion Hall and Koyasu Pagoda. The nature and view around the Temple are beautiful and visitors can enjoy them as well as buy souvenirs which offer is especially good during festival days.

Fushimi Inari Taisha is located in southern Kyoto and it is one of the most important Shinto shrines in the city. It owns its popularity to thousands of vermillion torii(gates) which lead to the wooded forest of the sacred Mount Inari. Inari is the God of rice and this shrine is the most important shrine dedicated to Inari. The main structure of the shrine is built in the late 15th century.
The walk to the top of the mountain and back lasts about 2-3 hours. Along the way there are several smaller shrines with smaller gates and restaurants which offer local dishes. A beautiful view over Kyoto stretches from the Yotsutsuji intersection which is located half way up the mountain.

Gion district in Kyoto is a famous geisha (geiko in Kyoto) district which was originally developed in the Middle Ages. Although the number of geiko is decreasing, this district still tries to preserve its traditional architecture and ways of entertainment. Gion is located between Yasaky Shrine and Kamo River around Shijo Avenue.
Hanami-koji Street is an exclusive and very nice place where one can eat in the restaurants, mostly situated inside the machiya, a traditional house. Ochaya are traditional tea houses where guests are entertained by geiko and maiko (geiko apprentice). Shirakawa Area goes along the Shirakawa Channel which is lined by trees, restaurants, and teahouses.

Kinkaku-ji is a Zen Buddhist Temple in Kyoto. Its top two floors are completely covered in gold leaf. This was formerly a villa known as Rokuonji which was in 1408 after the death of the owner Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, converted to a Zen Temple.
During its history the temple burned down several times, and the present structure was rebuilt in 1955. Although the temple has several valuable and interesting statues, the inside of the temple is closed for the public. Visitors can enjoy in the view on the Temple from its beautiful garden where one can also sit in the Sekkatei Teahouse. There is also Fudo Hall which houses a statue of Fudo Myoo, the protector of Buddhism and one of the Five Wisdom Kings.
