If you are a person that enjoys hiking and meanwhile you like nature and cultural heritage then hiking on Kamakura trails is something not to be missed. The trails can be divided into three parts; the Western, Northern, and Eastern Hills.  The walk on the western hills takes about 60-90 minutes and connects the public park, Jochiji Temple, and the Great Buddha (Daibutsu). While walking across the Northern Hills one can see tomb caves as well as Kenchoji Temple and Zuisenji Temple. The Eastern Trail is shorter and it takes approximately 30 minutes of walk. It connects the Myohonji Temple, Yagumo shrine and a cave tomb, Harikiri Yagura.

Hase Temple is one of the great Buddhist temples in Kakmakura. The Temple is also home to one of the largest wooden statues in Japan. The statue of Kannon, the Goddess of Mercy, that can be seen in the temples main building is over nine meters high and has eleven heads which represent different phases in the search for enlightenment.
In the Amida-do Hall is located almost three meters tall Golden Buddha. A beautiful garden with pond surrounds the Temple which has an observation deck with excellent view on Kamakura, Yuigahama Beaches, Sugami Bay and Miura Peninsula in the distance.
A hall with figure of the Goddess of Sea, Benzaiten, and one of the Seven Lucky Gods of Japan, is located near the Temple, and this is the fourth station of the Bandō Sanjūankasho pilgrimage circuit. There is also a Benten-kutsu Cave where Benzaiten and 16 children are chiseled out of the cave walls.
The Jizo-do Hall is surrounded by thousands of small Jizo stone statues which are located there to comfort the souls of unborn children.
Daikoku-do Hall contains the image of Daikokuten, one of Seven Japanese Gods of Fortune, and the God of Wealth.
Within the Temple complex there is also Kyozo Sutra Archive building where ancient texts and documents (sutras) are held. It is said that by turning the rinzo, the bronze gate, one can earn the same merit as from reading all the sutras.
The archeological items discovered at the time of the temple reconstruction are held in Homotsu-kan Museum. The Museum is opened every day from 9am-4pm, except Mondays.

The Great Buddha of Kamakura (Diabutsu) is one of the icons and the second largest Buddha in Japan. It has impressive height of over 13 m and 93 tons of weight. It is located on the grounds of Kotokuin Buddhist temple of the Pure Land sect.
This bronze statue was built in the 13th century inside of the temple, but the temple was destroyed in the 15th century by tsunami and since then it stands outside.
 

A Chinese Zen monk founded the Engaku-ji Temple in the late 13th century. Today this temple has become one of the most important Zen Buddhist temple complexes in Japan. There are 18 temples on the grounds of this complex.
It was built to pay respect to the Japanese and Mongolian soldiers that died in battles. The main hall of the temple, Butsuden, displays a wooden statue of Shaka Buddha. The Sheridan Hall is special for the enshrined tooth of Buddha.
The Temple and its surroundings are especially beautiful in autumn when the trees show their beautiful colors.

Tsurugaoka Hachiman-gū Shrine is the most important Shinto shrine in Kamakura. It was founded in the 11th century by Minamoto Yoriyoshi, and Minamoto Yoritomo moved it to its current position in the late 12th century. The shrine is dedicated to Hachiman, the god patron of samurai and of the Minamoto family. The shrine grounds are entered through torii, a Shinto gate after which there are two flat and one arched bridge over Genpei ponds, ´Genpei-ike´.
There are several other sub-shrines included in the Tsurugaoka complex. The Junior shrine, Wakamiya, the Senior shrine, Hongū, and the Maruyama Inari shrine. Kamukara Museum of National Treasure, Museum of Modern Art, Maiden pavilion are also included in the temple complex, and they often they often host different events, dances and music performances.
