Xishuangbanna Sky Tree Park

Xishuangbanna Sky Tree Park is located into the heard of the tropical jungle. The surrounding nature is national park, luckily the forest is protrected here. The park itself is partly a high trees walk path and some other paths that lead into the lush jungle.

·Located in the south of Mengyang Natural Reserve, 48 kilometers from Jinghong City and 115 kilometers from Pu’er City in Xishuangbanna, the Wild Elephants Valley is the most fascinating forest park known for primeval tropical rainforest and flocks of Asia wild elephants. The Wild Elephant Valley Rainforest Scenic Area is also called Sanchahe Forest Park. It is said that currently about 130 wild elephants frequently appear in the Wild Elephant Valley. In China, Asia elephants can only be seen in the rainforests of Xishuangbanna while the Wild Elephant Valley is the sole place where wild elephants frequently show up .

Originally, People found lots of wild elephants and other animals bathing or drinking water in the "elephant pond" of the Wild Elephant Valley. Since 1980s, subordinate of National Nature Reserve Bureau has been throwing salt at the bank of the pond to entice wild elephants. Flocks of wild elephants were frequently attracted to lick the salt since then. In 1991, the Nature Reserve Bureau of Xishuangbanna established an observation tower in the park. In the following years, The Wild Elephant Valley was developed into a forest park equipped with air corridor, cableway, houses built on crotches of tress, pedestrian path and other facilities.

The Wild Elephant Valley covers a total area of 3.7 square kilometers, a water area of 8000 kilometers with an elevation of 747-1055 meters. Apart from the most eye catching rainforest and wild elephants to view, the park has been established with several scenic zones to serve tourists, such as Tree houses, Butterfly Park, Snake Park, Orchid Garden and the Bainiao Garden (where a hundred of rare birds perch in).

Xiding Thursday Market

Xiding is a very small city (yesterday village even) located on the west of Xishuangbanna prefecture. Someone says there is a little to expect here, still tourists are making the road to this far corner at least once a week. And it’s on purpose: the Thursday market is considered one of the best and authentic markets in the region.

I’ll explain: Yunnan province is a unique province in China which is very famous by various ethnic minorities and tribes (some even do not speak Mandarin Chinese). Xiding is a regional center that once in a week hosts a bazaar that serves both as a shopping and social event for all the nearby villages. Various minorities in their national clothes could be observed and even a bit photographed on the market. You will learn to distinguish between Aini, Bulang, Dai and Hani minorities and perhaps some others :)

Few tips:

◦Get there a day before. This is a typical route: take a bus from Jinghong to Menghai (that would be easy). From Menghai there are two buses to Xiding each day.
◦There is a modest “hostel” right at the place the Xiding bus stops. Hot shower and toilet are available in a separate building 10 meters away from your door. The place is a bit noisy, so some tourists recommend to get out of the bus toward the main “square” in Xiding (50m) and find a stairs up that lead to another village (some say that the people in that village are even more hospitable and the sleep is quieter).
◦Get up with the sun (for us it was near 7:00 am) to see the launch of the shopping party and to take the pictures while the shadows are still looong :)
◦Wherever you go – ensure you have at least the name of the place written on paper in Chinese. Lots of village names sound pretty same for the western ear, so you might find yourself kilometers away of the desired destination.
◦In case you are completely stacked without a bus to/from Xiding, the bike shop on the central square will do you a “favor”, delivering you and your luggage to any nearby village (beware: Lonely Planet defines the ride of that type as a “hair rising experience”). Be firm when negotiating a price.
◦There are some tracks opportunities from Xiding to nearby villages and more on that in the future lomolocations :)

Trekking around Xishuangbanna - for beginners

In this 3 days trekking, we will visit Aka and Bulang ethnic minority, see the beautiful scenery and waterfalls. Meanwhile, we will have close touch with local people, have the real taste of China. We will talk with local, laugh with local and stay with local in the ethnic minority villages. Our trekking area is close to the Burmese border in a mountainous area in southwest of Jinghong.

Trekking around Xishuangbanna - for beginners

Day 01

We will start our trekking at Xiding township at 1780m.s.l., we will see the beautiful scenery, the tea and sugar can plantation, and how the local people use their land system. Today's trekking is very diverse and leads through forests and fields, over top of mountains. We will arrive at about 4:30 pm in the Zhanglang of traditional Bulang village, where is our overnight stay.

Driving: 2.5 hours, from Jinghong to Xiding;

Day 02

We will go down to the rive after going up the hill, we will visit the big mysterious Banyan tree which have a lots of big roots, then we will continue trekking along an old pilgrims path to a mysterious pagoda and finally trek to another Bulang village.

Day 03

We will trek through forest to a beautiful waterfall and river, after that, we will trek to Bada in a Aka minority village. We will get a minibus, driving from Bada to Jinghong, which takes about 3.5 hours, during the driving, we will visit the Jingzheng Octagonal Pagoda.

After lunch, we will drive back to Kunming, go to Luyu Tea Exchange Center to enjoy one of the most famous tea in China - Pu'er tea, and learn about the south silk road history and culture. In the afternoon, we will take the flight to Xishuangbanna. Our guide and driver will pick you up from Xishuangbanna airport and transfer you to the hotel.

Our guide and driver will bring you to the airport and you will take the flight to Dali. You will be greeted by our Dali guide in the airport, then you will be transferred to the hotel, after a short rest, we will visit Three Pagodas, Dali Ancient Town, the Foreigner Street, get up to the City Wall to enjoy the whole view of the Dali Ancient Town.

Day 06 Dali, Lijiang

Today we will visit Xizhou Town (taste their fragrant Three-Course Tea), Zhoucheng Village (see how local people make the Wax Printing). We will have the option to take Erhai Lake Cruise and enjoy Osprey Fishing Show. We will drive to Lijiang in the afternoon.

Today we will take a chairlift up to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, visit Spruce Meadow, the Yak Meadow, Ganhaizi and Baishui River. After lunch, we will have the option to enjoy the Lijiang Impressions Show. Afterwords we will visit the Baisha Village and Murals.

Today we will visit Tengchong Volcano Park, which is a must-see in Tengchong. Besides that, we will also visit Beihai Wetland Nature Reserve and Dieshuihe Waterfall. Enjoy the relaxing evening in Tengchong town.

Today we will visit the famous Hot-spring Park in Tengchong, you could relax yourself and enjoy the beautiful view over there. Besides that, yoou could choose to have a hot sprint bath or have a therapeutic massage (on your own cost).

Day 13 Tengchong, Kunming

Today our driver and guide will bring you to the Tengchong airport, you will take a flight to Kunming. Our Kunming guide will see you in the airport, after checking in the hotel, we will then visit Western Hill (return sightseeing bus fee RMB25 is included), getting up to the Dragon Gate, have a beautiful view of whole Kunming city and Dianchi Lake. In the afternoon, we will enjoy the 45-mintues Traditional Massage after the long trip. In the evening, you will have the option to enjoy the special show plus dinner arrangement "Yunnan Ethnic Jixin Dance with Dinner".
