About Me

My name is Abel Mekonnen. I was born in Arbaminch which is one of the beautiful touristic destinations in the southern part of Ethiopia. I grew up seeing tourists and dreamed of being a tour guide. So, I started working as a local guide in my home town and Omo valley and later moved to the capital city Addis Ababa to join the renowned Tourism Institute of the country to be a professional tour guide. I graduated in Tour guide, Tour operation Supervision and Tourism management on July 25 2008, August 06, 2017 and 09 November 2017 respectively. I have been working as a professional tour guide since 2008 on freelance basis. I opened my own Tour Company in 2011. Since then, I have been organizing and managing any kind of tour packages to inbound tourists too.

Being tour guide and manager mean a cultural ambassador of a country. So, I proudly feel as a cultural ambassador of my beloved country Ethiopia. Guiding and organizing tours are my life style. Luckily my hobby has become my job.

 I have diploma in theology and BA degree in International Trade and Investment Management with great distinctions. I also studied the classical and liturgical language Ge’ez. Studying the related field of study International trade and Investment management has also helped me easily understand & organize the business well enough since tourism is an international trade & investment which has unique features. I have been travelling throughout my country. So, I know Ethiopia inside out. I am here to organise your holiday.

I had the great pleasure to tour with Abel twice already ! The first time was a trip with my friends in 2015. Not only is Abel a walking encyclopedia, he is also genuinely concerned about everybody's wellbeing during the trip. He is kind, concerned, feels responsible and guides with great enthusiasm. Furthermore he is a man of great humor and he is never intrusive. The following year I went back to Ethiopia and brought my family. No doubt we would have Abel as a guide. All my kids and husband liked and appreciate Abel for his extensive knowledge about his beautiful country and I can say we see Abel as our personal friend. I hope to be able to travel again with him in the future. Read less

Until now I have experienced 2 guided tours with Abel. The first one was with friends. We have thoroughly enjoyed the trip (which was in 2015) and Abel made sure we had an experience never to forget. Not only is he a walking encyclopedia, but Abel is a very enjoyable, kind and humble person. He feels responsible for the group throughout the whole stay and is genuinely concerned about everybody's well being. We will never forget the physical exercises we did together in the middle of nowhere so as not to get a sore body after spending too much time in the car. :) Abel is a true ambassador of his country. He is proud of his culture and speaks with great knowledge and enthusiasm. The year after this trip I went back with my husband and children and it was self-evident to choose for Abel as a guide. He has become a friend and I hope to travel again with him in this exciting, moving, overwhelming country of his.. Read less

We hebben tijdens januari 2019 een rondreis in Ethiopië gehad. Abel was onze gids voor het noordelijke deel. Deze gids is een wandelende encyclopedie die ons heel veel heeft bijgebracht over de Ethiopische geschiedenis, cultuur en religie zonder dat het saai werd. De goedlachse man had een antwoord over alles wat zijn vaderland betreft. We hadden tevens het geluk om het TIMKAT festival te kunnen bijwonen. Ethiopië heeft ons zeer aangenaam verrast en heeft zoveel verrassende kantjes voor ons Europeanen. Ook daar speelde Abel een belangrijke rol in. Hij stond altijd open voor al onze vragen.
