Transportation to and from the airport to the city is very convenient provided you know what destination you are headed for. There is a bus terminal at the airport which is very affordable for budget travelers. From the bus terminal you can reach any corner of the city. Tickets can be purchased in the arrivals hall for 15 RMB per person. In front of the arrival hall of the airport there is also a taxi stand. You will receive a service card with the number plate of your taxi on it. In case you are not satisfied with the service of the taxi, call the service number on the card. Do not take taxis offered to you in the arrival hall of the airport as they intend to charge a higher fare. Only take the taxis which are waiting at the taxi stand. Do not bargain the price with the driver, tell the taxi driver to use the meter. Another more expensive means of transportation is to rent a car.
There are daily flights linking Wuhan with numerous destinations both in China and abroad (including Asia and Europe).

The city of Wuhan consists of three districts; Wuchang (武昌), Hankou (汉口) and Hanyang (汉阳). Each district has its own railway station serving different destinations across China. The two major railway stations are in Wuchang and Hankou. Train tickets cost the same at each of the three stations.
Wuhan has three main railway lines; the Jing Guang railway (京广铁路线) line (from Beijing to Guangzhou passing through Wuhan), the Handan Railway (邯郸铁路线) line (from Hankou to Chongqing and then to Chengdu), and the Wu Jiu railway ( 武九铁路线) line (from Wuchang to Jiu Jiang and continuing on to Shanghai).
If you are traveling to the north, the Jing Guang railway line is the one you want; you should arrive or depart at the Hankou station.
If you are heading south, catch the train at Wuchang station. If you are heading for or coming from Chengdu, Chongqing, or other western destinations, you will probably arrive or depart from Wuchang station.
If you are coming from or going to any eastern provinces, Hankou or Wuchang station are both suitable for your trip.
For trains to Wuhan it is best to find this information from the departure city. All trains follow the same routes going to Wuhan as they do going from Wuhan.

Transportation to Wuhan by bus is fairly convenient. New expressways have been constructed in the last few years and destinations as far away as Beijing and Shanghai can be reached on an overnight trip.
Hankou's long distance bus station can be found on Jiefang Dadao (解放大道). In Wuchang the station is on Wuluo Lu ( 武珞路), northeast of the railway station.
Buses departing from the Jiefang Dadao (解放大道) station in Hankou district head to most of the northern cities. Buses heading for southern destinations depart from the bus station on Wu Luo Road ( 武珞路) in Wuchang district.

Wuhan is situated along the edge of the Changjiang (Yangtze, 长江) River. Ferries are available to Shanghai, Chongqing and other riverside cities. There are 18 ferry routes in the city, of which there are three fast line routes....

There are 18 ferry routes in the city, of which there are three fast line routes. There is also a sightseeing tour on the Yangtze river. You can board the ferry at a two different ferry docks (Zhonghua road in Wuhang or WuhanGuan in Hankou). This means of transportation is pretty cheap, safe, and excellent for visitors who are interested in the natural landscape and a bit of fresh air.
However, boats are a slow method of transportation. For example, if you are going to Nanjing by boat, it will take you 48 hours to get there.
Prices depend on the boat type (deluxe or not) and class (three classes, from economic to VIP).
Lots of travel agencies in Wuhan offer deluxe cruises to the famous Three Gorges.

Finding your way around Wuhan itself is fairly easy. The city has an excellent bus system and plenty of buses run between Hankou (汉口), Wuchang (武昌) and Hanyang (汉阳). However, like every big city in China, traffic can become quite slow and crowded during rush hours. A trip costs 1.2 Yuan for non-air conditioned buses and 2 Yuan for air-conditioned buses. Street and stop names are always a headache for foreign travelers in China. One easy solution to this problem is to ask a university student or hotel concierge to write the Chinese characters of your destination on a piece of paper that you can take with you.
An easy way for backpackers to see the city is to take the special tourist buses with routes specifically designed to cover almost all of the key tourist spots. In each of Wuhan's three districts buses that begin with the number 4 are special tourist line buses. We recommend No. 401 and No. 402 buses, as they cover most of the famous attractions in Wuhan. No. 401 will take you to Yellow Crane Tower (Huang He Lou, 黄鹤楼), East Lake (Dong Hu, 东湖), Heptachord Terrace (Gu Jin Tai, 古琴台) and Guiyuan Buddhist Temple (Guiyuan Shi, 归元寺). If you are interested in the provincial museum, take No. 402. An all-day ticket costs 10 yuan and a one-trip ticket costs 2 Yuan.
Taxis 出租车
Taxis in Wuhan are fairly cheap. A trip from Hankou to Wuchang will cost about 35 to 40 Yuan. The first 3 kilometers cost 3 Yuan and each additional km costs 1.4 Yuan. Most of the taxis drivers know the popular places and their names. If you the names written down in Chinese characters it should be no problem. Bear in mind that they do not speak English.
Metro 地铁
On the 28th of September 2004, the much anticipated Metro line of Wuhan was put into operation. The first 10.2 km line (with 10 stations) runs from Huangpu Road (黄铺路) to Zhongguan Road (中关路) in the downtown area of Hankou district. The light metro in Wuhan operates from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
The ticket price is 1.5 Yuan if you travel a distance of six stops or less. You will be charged 2 Yuan for trips longer than 6 stops. Trains arrive once every 3 minutes.
When this line is completed, it will have 16 stations with a total length of 30 km. It belongs to a network of 220 km (4 lines) to be built in the next decade. Most lines will be constructed underground unlike line one. The second line is already under construction and it will link Hankou to Wuchang.
Bicycle 自行车
Bicycles are available for rent in some hotels. Visitors can navigate Wuhan safely with bicycles. The East Lake scenic spot is ideal for this kind of activity.
