Shang Xia Jiu Pedestrian Street situated in the central area of Liwan (or Xiguan) district, this area consists of Shangjiu Lu, Xiajiu Lu and Dishipu Lu. The street is notable for its unique Lingnan architectural style, Xiguan folk customs, commercial and cultural ambience. Featuring the characteristics of European and Chinese styles.

As one of the three most famous commercial centers in Guangzhou, the Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street is about 800 in length with 250 shops on both sides. Opened at 30th September 1995, it is the first commercial pedestrian street in Guangzhou city. It is a showcase of traditional Cantonese architecture, especially pretty at night when lit up. All the shops here are Qilou or sotto porticos (a building structure of South-China’s construction style), which make the open market weatherproof. Walking on the Beijing Lu, in the center of Guangzhou City, however, you will find a world not far different from Shangxia Jiu Lu.

Prices here are generally lower than Beijing Lu’s, but prepare to bargain a fair bit. Remember to visit Liwan Plaza lì-wān-guǎng-chǎng), located at 9 Dexing Lu , the east end of the street. (Metro 1 Chang Shou Lu – Exits D1, D2.) You will find a good selection of crystal here. Stores carrying fashionable clothes, shoes, jade, crystal, AV items, snacks and so forth can all be found in this 7-story building. Other malls like Dongji (for youngsters), Minghui, Cyber and Qiancai are scattered west of Liwan Plaza.

Here is mainly for medium-and-minus consumption groups. You can find bunches of historically local famous names of commerce, such as Heling”s Shoes & Hats, Guangzhou Department Store for Women and Children, Xingping Tailoring and Hualin Jade and Jewellery Market here, prices are generally lower, and you could prepare to bargain a fair bit. It also has some well-known restaurants, including the Guangzhou Restaurant, the Taotaoju Restaurant, Wenchang Chicken, and Taotao Ginger and Onion Chicken.

Beijing Lu Pedestrian Street, This is the main shopping thoroughfare, a pedestrian street where most stores are open from 9AM-10PM. It has absolutely everything; cheap clothes, good food and even a little history. There is a display of the original road from the song dynasty (960 – 1279 A.D).

In the center of the street you will see two underground archeological sites showing that this road has existed here for nearly a thousand years. Coke must have struck a good deal with Guangzhou’s municipal authorities because the pair of underground sites are sponsored by the American soda icon. Just in case you overlook that fact on the accompanying bronze plaque, then you can’t miss the Coca Cola logo that appears on almost every other glass panel which peers below into a pit with remnants of the Song and Ming dynasty roads on display. Permanently stationed between the two historical sites is the convenient Coca Cola Trolley, peddling the traditional glass bottles of what Chinese people not too long ago believed was a strange elixir that tasted like some awful western medicine.

The Xinhua bookstore is a good place to buy a tourist atlas of China. This is really the only shop around here that I would recommend. You won’t find any bargains if you’re looking for cheap clothing or those popular fake brand name designer goods.

There is a wide range of stores available, from a large modern-style department store to stores selling the latest fashions for young people, to the ultra-cheap shacks hawking t-shirts, jewelry and knick-knacks…

When you walk down beijing lu you will see little alleys on the left and right. In there are many little shops where you can bargain. Designer clothes, bags, all the girls stuff and a bit of guy’s clothes. There is tons of guys selling fake watches there as well and they will follow you down the road for a bit trying to get you to look at their stuff.

You will get exhausted when you see all the things are real cheap, but 1 thing, you get what you paid for. The things are not so good quality if it is real cheap. But as for a lady we will still buy if when we see things are cheap , it doesn’t matter at least we will use it for a few times it you dont like it anymore you can give it to someone else , after all the things that you bought are cheap .

If you are staying in GuangZHou hotel or Landmark Hotel, it is a walking distance, just about 10 minutes walking from the hotel to the beijing lu Pedestrian Street.

Guangzhou is a shopper’s paradise for the wide variety of inexpensive clothing, electronics, and other consumer goods available in its stores, markets and malls. The city’s markets are filled with people, and just beyond Guangzhou’s borders, the Pearl River factories begin.

Department Stores and Shops:10:00 to 22:00, daily, some closed on Sundays, like the Beijing lu and Shangxia jiu lu .
But the Guangzhou Wholesale Market usually operates from 10am to 6pm. They are open during weekend (but not on public holiday—like Chinese New Year).
Most of shops just close during the Chinese New Year!

1. Once you buy it in China, it is yours. Like most foreign countries, make sure you are happy with the exact merchandise being sold to you. Inspect what you intend to buy, and not a sample with a “factory sealed” package to be delivered upon payment.

2. China has competitive and generally reliable electronics malls in the major cities. Be sure you are geeky enough to make an informed purchase. There are bargains, but do not expect the technical help you might get from your own electronics stores at home.

3. Traveling in China on its holidays can be a nightmare. Plan your trip carefully so you know what to expect on the Chinese Official Holidays. China-briefing.com is a good source, so search for the current year. While the holidays may be the same from year to year, even tied to fixed dates, the entire holiday period will shift. New schedules are posted in December, just a week or so before the year begins. Do not assume the May Day holiday is May 1-3. It might be April 29 and 30 and May 1. That mistake might ruin sightseeing and cause you to be stranded without transport tickets.

4. Beggars and street people? There are a few, but no where near the number of homeless on the streets of the U.S. Chinese pay them no mind and neither should you. Just walk on.

5. Anyone who approaches you trying to practice English should be greeted with a smile and skepticism. Most Chinese are shy and will not speak to you unless you speak first. Those who overtly approach you and make the first move are likely to be selling something or worse. Many tourists reports scams in Shanghai, so be friendly but careful. Never ever follow a stranger anywhere.

6. You should be an experienced shopper to know what something is worth in a Chinese market. Generally the shopkeeper will start at 10X what you should counteroffer. You could ask strangers what they would typically pay for it. Taxi prices are set by meter. Food merchants naturally will jack up the price for foreign-looking people, so be sure to bargain. Bargaining is an art in China. If you do not care for it, have someone else buy things for you.

7. Before you leave home, get a good guidebook and buy street maps on line or in bookstores for cities you wish to explore. Free tourism maps are never to scale or easy to follow, with half the streets not there, names unclear. and big advertising splashed right across where you want to go. Amazing how many people budget well over USD$1,500 per person for China travel, yet won’t spend USD$30 for an excellent book to help them along the way. DK Eyewitness Guides are well regarded for their color pictorals of everything there is to see, while Lonely Planet has logistics info on most anywhere you want to go. Other books more resemble a group tour itinerary, only covering the overvisited tourism sights and avoiding any real detail.
City guides unfortunately suggest westernized entertainment zones where only monied upper-class people would care to enter. You can have a lot of fun on food streets, wet and dry markets and such. Walk the Bund at night to people watch. Tiananmen Square is best at night.

8. Tour groups are a good convenient way to see some outstanding things and get taken to tourist trinket stores. When you ditch the tour you probably see more on your own, but with more time spent planning about being a stranger in a foreign land. You cannot hope to get a pulse of the people on a typical tourism visit, as you will not be exposed to common worker Chinese, the hundreds of millions who form the majority in the country. You will see a lot of Chinese hospitality industry workers who speak some English, and maybe some Chinese tourists who also are enjoying the country. They are not at all representative of the country, 48% of which still live on the farm and do not speak one word of English, even if they allegedly learned it in school.

9. Like anywhere, some tourist attractions are overrated. Avoid visiting mid-morning and mid-afternoon when group bus tours unload hundreds, if not thousands, of tourists to overrun a previously enjoyable attraction. The cacophony of multiple battery-operated bullhorns in several languages will spoil any visit to a Chinese garden, the Great Wall or landscape scenery.

10. Chinese restaurants with lots of foreigners (non-Chinese) are almost always unauthentic, as well as overpriced. Usually frequented by group tours, these places change recipes to conform to what they think are “western tastes.” Many middle-class, white linen restaurants, hosting complete nuclear (three-generation) families around big round tables, have English menus with sometimes humorous translations. The more crowded with families it is, the better value and food it has. The menu’s color pictures will help also. If they just show you an English menu, ask to see both. They might be pricing the food twice to five-times higher for tourists. If so, just walk out before you drink any tea. Compare the photos and prices. No tipping in restaurants, taxis, or anywhere for that matter.

11. Luxury goods are expensive in China, thanks to a luxury tax. Go to Hong Kong to make a killing on name-brand bargains. In China you can find some good buys in silk, pearls, jade and handicrafts, but you must study a bit to make sure you are getting the real thing. Bone porcelain can be a good buy too, but it must be carefully packed for your air travel.

12. Bring your own toilet tissue with you, as you will rarely find a public toilet supplied with it. Carry it always in your purse, camera bag or backpack. Small flat travel packs (dry tissue and wet toilet wipes) are now available many places. You may use little packs of alcohol wet wipes to go over places your body will touch.

13. Chinese people are delighted if you make any attempt to speak Mandarin, even if it’s only a couple of words. The best way to introduce yourself is with a warm, broad smile. Even when you might be upset or frustrated, smile. It works.

14. Personal sanitation is important while traveling. Since you are on the “tourist trail,” you are actually mixing with people from dozens of countries on six continents, not just Asians. Bring your own alcohol-based wet wipes for water-free hand sanitation. Never drink tap water! Bottled water is common everywhere and cheap at the corner convenience stores.

15. The internet is censored in China. You need a VPN to see Facebook and any blog for that matter. Hotel internet charges rise along with the room rates. Lower cost three-star hotels will frequently have free wired and WiFi internet. Luxury hotels will charge you USD$15-25 per day. Internet cafes can be a huge inconvenience with lots of smokers and unclean surrroundings. Book a hostel or hotel with free WiFi. They are everywhere.

Also in market there are some rules,they do allow you to cut few meters or yards if they have stock but price will be sample price(2-5rmb more,some shop add 10rmb/meter more or double the price).

If you order,the price will be cheaper.The price they wrote on swatch is normally the bulk price for order.MOQ is different which range from 100meters or more and it depends on the styles.Besides,in most cases the buyer have to wait at least one hour or next day for what you order from stock.If for order,it takes more time(one week or more)
Anyway because of the market is pretty huge and the market people do not speak English normally,so I would suggest it will be better to have a local guide/translator around so your business will be more smoothly.Plus if you order fabric from different shops,they wont be able to help you delivery or ship out to your countries.So if you can have a reliable assistant/agent in China,that would be so helpful for your business because they can go to check the quality for you,pick up the goods and arrange shipment accordingly when you are back to your country.

Beijing Lu Pedestrian Street (北京路步行街 běi-jīng-lù) (Metro 1, 2 Gong Yuan Qian Exits C, D) This is the main shopping thoroughfare, a pedestrian street where most stores are open from 9AM-10PM. Avoid individuals who solicit pirated DVDs and imitation goods. Don't follow anyone into the small dark alleys in between buildings to see their goods. Remember to visit Mayflower Plaza (五月花广场 wǔ-yuè-huā-guǎng-chǎng)[[24]] 68 Zhongshan 5th Road (中山五路68号), at the northern end of the Pedestrian Street. This is a place where young people hang out and shop.
Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street (上下九商业步行街 shàng-xià-jiǔ) (Metro 1 Changshou Lu Exits D1, D2.) This shopping area is also a showcase of traditional Cantonese architecture Qilou(骑楼). It is particularly pretty at night when lights are lit up. Prices here are generally lower than Beijing Road's, but prepare to bargain. Taikoo Hui (太古汇) [25] (Metro Line 3, Shipaiqiao) A fancy latest shopping mall that targets affluent customers. L3 has several western cafes and bistros which are popular among expats and local bourgeoisies. The bookshop in L1, Fangshuo, is one of the fanciest bookshop of its kind in China, which has a fair collection of English books as well.
China Plaza (中华广场 zhōng-huá-guǎng-chǎng). 33 Zhongshan 3rd Road, (中山三路33号),(Metro 1 Martrs' Park) The mall is extremely popular among young locals and displays what they think "fashionable". Located on top of a metro station, it also has a huge food court which serves anything from Sichuanese spicy food to Japanese Sushi.
Grandview Mall (Zhengjia Plaza) (正佳广场 zhèng-jiā-guǎng-chǎng) [26] 228 Tianhe Road, (天河路228号),(Metro 1, 3 Tianhe Sports Center Exit D3). +86 20 3833-0098. This is the largest mall in Guangzhou, located in the heart of Tianhe District. It includes famous fashion stores and several department stores, and some cheesy music fountains.
Tee Mall (天河城 tiān-hé-chéng) [27] 208 Tianhe Road (天河路208号)(Metro 1 Tiyu Xilu). Located right above the metro Tiyu Xilu station, this is one of the most popular shopping mall.

The biggest problem faced by international businessmen when exporting clothes from Guangzhou wholesale markets is size, especially for markets targeted at Middle East, America, Europe, etc. As is known, Chinese are shorter and smaller when compared with people from those regions as mentioned above, thus, if you are exporting clothes from Guangzhou clothes wholesale markets, it is vital to confirm the sizes so as to ensure what you buy are not useless in your country.

Size:

If you are buying clothes from Guangzhou clothes stock markets such as Guang Da clothes market, the biggest advantage is you can get the stock clothes at very competitive price. It is much cheaper than OEM orders. For instance, a kid’s jacket might cost about 30 rmb in the stock market, but if you are placing OEM orders, it might cost you about 60 rmb.

The biggest disadvantage is size, color and quantity. Usually, the in-stock clothes are not complete in size, color, quantity. For example, for one design of girls’ coat, the total stock quantity is 300 pieces, there might be 98 pieces for age 4-6, 85 pieces for age 8-10, 117 pieces for age 11-12. And they also have five colors, white, black, pink, yellow, orange, the quantities for the same age, different colors are also not equal. Therefore, if you are buying from the stocks markets, it is better to confirm first. Usually, sizes for people in China are one or two sizes smaller than British Size.

Logo:

If you are buying clothes for your own brand and you wish to put everything of your brand into the clothes including logo, water mark, tag, etc. then Guangzhou clothes stock markets are not the right option. But here is a simple way to solve the problem: you can have your logo, water mark, tags made already, and then ask the stock clothes store to help you pull out the original logos and then stick yours into the clothes. But sometimes it is very hard to do because it might easily ruin the clothes if the clothes are manufactured from certain materials that can easily be ruined.

If you are buying clothes directly from OEM markets such as Liu Hua clothes market, then it is a piece of cake to solve the problems related to size, logo, etc. The OEM manufacturers can do everything according to your requirement. The only thing you need to do is to send them the specifications of sizes, logo, or design. Usually, if you are placing OEM deals, they have minimum order quantity. You have to reach some quantities so as to have the clothes manufactured.

Advantages: Can custom made your design, logo, size.

Disadvantages: Expensive with minimum order quantity.

I’ve been a frequent visitor to Guangzhou wholesale markets and it is not uncommon when most buyers asked to buy cheap clothes in Guangzhou but can’t afford the high prices of OEM orders, feeling great ecstasy about the extremely incentive prices of stocks, yet depressed about the limitations these stock clothes offer.
