Dong Men 东门

Dong Men is a shopping district consisting of department stores, supermarkets, shops and stalls. It is centred on two parallel pedestrian streets with several smaller streets and alleys traversing it, creating a labyrinth in which every available space is used to sell something. Shops range from holes-in-the-wall to retail chains like Baleno, Giordano and the odd foreign brand shop, such as Addidas. Location

Dongmen is accessible from exits to the metro station Laojie Station and follow Exit A, lies just north of Shennan Dong Road. "Dongmen" usually refers to more than just "Dongmen Road", encompassing the entire series of connecting commercial streets.

Shopping

The variety of shopping in Dongmen is wider than Luohu Commercial City, but has a similar focus on Chinese-made and counterfeit goods. Beauty parlor services are very popular in Dongmen and the department store Maoye has locations on both ends of the road. The Huaqiangbei commercial area is a great place to go shopping for electronic consumer items and to take a look at the 72-story SEG Plaza skyscraper. The area starts from Shennan Boulevard at SEG Plaza, near HuaQiangLu Station and stretches one Kilometer North up to the Pavilion hotel. Trees line the avenues with really wide footpaths which make walking around the district more enjoyable. However this is one of the busiest shopping areas of Shenzhen and be prepared for large crowds and hawkers. Huaqiangbei is famous for having the largest electronic market in all of Asia. Actually it is made up of multiple electronic markets where what is available runs the gamut from electronic components to full computers and mobile phones. There are also a number of department stores and the locally-famous “Women’s World” and Maoye Department store which makes Hua Qiang Bei a popular destinations for couples.
