Xujiahui used to be one of the earliest places for Catholicism to spread in Shanghai. It could be traced back to Xu Guangqi, the senior official in Ming dynasty. He might also be the first Catholic in China. Then he invited a foreign priest Guo Jujing to start preaching in his hometown Xujiahui and since then there were more and more believers. Afterwards, the Society of Jesus established a church in Xujiahui named St.lgnatius Cathedral of Zi-ka-wei. As Catholics increased, the churchmen decided to build a new church, known as Xujiahu Catholic Church today, which is a typical French Gothic architecture of masonry structure with twin-spires. Two 57-meters-high bell towers face each other north and south with two crosses on the spires into the sky, which is amazing.

Lòngtáng, meaning alley, Shanghai is a unique residential form, it is not even ranked by Shikumen buildings posed, and with Shikumen buildings have a close relationship. It represents the characteristics of modern Shanghai urban culture, creating a unique style alley diverse culture. Various trekking alley, alley sexy, alley moved, it has become a gorgeous background color Shanghai city. Alley as entertainment, children's activities, transactions and other activities of the place.

Pudong gives people the strong impression of its super fast modern development in the World.   But between Lujiazui Finance & Economy Zone,  where the most concentrated Skyscrapers are and the World biggest harbor, Yangshan Deep Water Port, there is an old town staying quietly for several centuries.  It is Xinchang, the meaning in Chinese is "New Field".                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           It was the important salt field supplying to the big area of Yangtze River Delta in the history.  This town reminds the visitors of its prosperous period of salt dealing, storage and transportation then. Those rivers, bridges, pavilions and houses in East China traditional style are quite well preserved for the visitors to review its history now due to its inconvenient location in the view of land transportation during last few decades.  But the metro will reach the town during next year, it is wondering how long this peaceful atmosphere there can last? 

Built from 1847 -1853 and designed by the Spanish Jesuit, it was one of the oldest and biggest churches in China with the capacity of 2,000 seats playing an important role during the early years.   It was built up in the particular architectural style with the combination of both Chinese and Western elements.  While it is an early Spanish baroque style church, there are Chinese couplets at both sides out of the main entrance and relieves designed with lotus flowers, double coins, cranes inside  of the church.  Some details are shown on the attached reference  photos.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                The  church was used as the warehouse during the Cultural Revolution from 1966 and damaged seriously during that period.  After some years of renovation, the church has resumed its activities from 2000.   Now this church is respected as the heritage treasure protected by the municipal government even the whole historical residential area around is being demolished for the new urban planning.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                

The Shanghai shopping landmark opened its doors to the public 96 years ago.  Most of Chinese people did their shopping in small stores.  But in early 20th century, Chinese merchants set up the biggest stores on Nanjing Road to change the way of shopping in the city as well in whole China.  With these remarkable historical buildings along this 5km long street,  Nanjing Road now is more towards a tourist attraction rather than only for shopping. 

It used to be the China National pavilion at shanghai Expo,and was transformed into a landmark place displaying China art.There are 14,000 are treasures collecet  here,almost covering all the wonderful works in  vanous phases in the developmental course of China art in the 20th century

Entering shanghai Film park,we seem to pass through the time tunnel and come to the old shanghai of the 1920s and 1930s with streetcar tinkingfrom the front,classic cars and rickshaws parked in the street,and the coachman driving a three -wheeled cart cars rattling to you .The sincere ,Wing on and Sun sun established in the early 20th century are next to each other,The paramount Hall and Huatai Theater stands on the two sides of the bustling intersection ,forming the circumstance of several forceful view.,The time -honored shops in shanghai all gathers here,Across the alley .in the roundabout Shikumen Lane,it seems that beam frame of Garden Bridge of shanghai is over the creek here ,and su zhou river embankments also settle here.Standing in the front of Mahler Apartment,some plots of the films and television dramas flash in mind ,Ascending the stairs and walking into the elegant white French mansion.  

Lying at the south of People's Square, it appeals to the visitor with iits peculiar shape of a giant bronze tripod. Now it is one of the new symbols of the city. The museum boasts more than 120,000 pieces of precious relics which are on display at the ten special galleries including bronze wares, pottery wares, sculptures, calligraphic pieces, paintings, seals, jade wares, ancient coins.

Tao Xingzhi (1891-1946) is a famous Chinese scholar and educator. Living in a time of war, Tao actively participated in revolutionary activities and set up a few patriotic organizations. His made great contribution to China's rural education by founding many schools for students of different age.
