Terracotta Warriors
Terracotta Warriors is the most famous tourist attraction in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, and it is in lintong District, which was originally a county affiliated with Xi'an municipality, but now it has transfered into a executive district in Xi'an municipality. It will take you about 1 hour from Xi'an city area to Lintong by taxi, and about 1 and half hour to Terracotta Warriors.
Terracotta Warriors is the national key cultural protection unit, it is the World Cultural Heritage listed by UNESCO, it is the world eighth miracle, the 5A tourist attraction in China, it was first built in Qin Dynasty, about 1800 years ago, first discovered in 1974.
The construction struction of Terracotta Warriors is very complicated, it comprises 4 pits, actually the first 3 is full of warrior statues, meanwhile the No.4 pit is empty, assuming that No.4 pit wasn't actually completed in building because of the revolts of farmers at the end of Qin Emperor's reign.
The archaeology process of Terracotta Warriors is also very complex, and here is a very famous people I have to mention, his name is Zhifa Yang, he is the discoverer of Terracotta Warriors.
Mentioning here, I have to tell you the story of the discovery of Terracotta Warriors, that is a story happened many years ago, On 1st March of 1974, Zhifa Yang hired some farmers to dig a well near his house, and they accidentally found some ceramic piles, and gradually digging, they successively found some ceramic warriors, and they report the news to the local government, several days later, Cultural relics bureau sent some workers here to finally found Terracotta Warriors, and finally built a museum.
The warriors statue is various in shapes. you can see warriors standing, crouching, moving forward, knight, infantry, cavalry, and some other shapes at all, and even horse statue is also very precious.
In 1978, French president Chirac visited Terracotta Warriors and give a very high compliment on it, Ditto, in 1998, president of United States of America, Clinton, said almost the same words about Terracotta Warriors.
Above all, Terracotta Warriors is the place you must go if you wanna to go to Xi'an for a tour visit. I, personall, highly recommend this area to you, and this place belongs to temperate continental monsoon climate, so the best time to come here is on Spring, Summer and Autumn.
