About this place

Yading Nature Reserve is home to three Tibetan mountains – Chenresig (6,032 meters), Jambeyang (5,958 meters), and Chanadorje (5,958 meters) – whose scenery and beauty can be compared to that of Yellowstone or Yosemite in the United States. Believing that these mountains are sacred, Tibetan Buddhists maintain that the three peaks encompass the compassion, wisdom, and energy needed to achieve enlightenment. Thus, it is a noble and meritable deed to make a pilgrimage, or kora, around the trio of mountains. Mt. Chanadorje is particularly spectacular and boasts a valley at its base, which visitors can access by walking on a wooded path. Near Mt. Chenresig lies a mountaintop emerald green lake, which local folklore says can tell visitors their future if they spend a few moments in silence there.
