Best Time to Visit Guangzhou
Autumn especially late September to early December is recommended as the best time to visit the city.
A yearly average temperature of 21 - 29 C (70 - 84 F) makes it a wonderful destination for travel. However, there will be drizzles from time to time in March and April which may spoil your plan. The humid and hot weather in sunmmer and the high uv radiation is exhausting for tourists, so you'd better avoid the hottest months from June to August.
Guangzhou is located in the middle south of Guangdong, and north of the Pearl River Delta. With a moderate temperature all the year round, it is hard to give a clear division of the four seasons. The hottest time falls in July and August, with more than 40 days at the highest temperature above 30 C (86 F). The coldest time is from the late January to early February, with the lowest temperature of -3 C (27 F).
Spring there is from February to March. The temperature rises gradually, but there can be sudden drizzle. You'd better take your sweater and light clothes in this season. The spring session of Canton Fair is usually held from April to May.
The summer, April to September, is relatively long, with the hottest weather in July and August. There will be occasional typhoons and frequent afternoon thunderstorms, so it is strongly recommended to be prepared for the rain. Travel to Chimelong Water Park is the first choice in this season. You can not only get relief from the summer heat, but also enjoy the fun and excitement of the water activities.
There is a 'Thunderstorms Season' in the city usually from March 4th until October 12th, lasting for a total of 223 days every year. Thunderstorms happen more from May to August, occurring over 10 days of a month. Especially in August, there will be thunderstorms every two days. Therefore you's better avoid traveling at this period of time.
Autumn days, from October to November, are mainly sunny and cool. This is the best time for traveling there. You just have to bring light clothing such as long-sleeved shirts or T-shirts, plus one or two thin coats and sweaters. Besides visiting tourist attractions like Yuexiu Park, White Cloud Mountain or the Pearl River, you can also go to shopping at Beijing Road, Zhongshan 5th Road, People's Road, or Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street, where you can get some local products like Cantonese embroidery, Canton enamel and Canton sculptures, with superior quality and at reasonable prices. Meanwhile, the Canton Fair will be held since November.
The city has a short winter from December to January. The weather is a little chilly but with a little frost and snow, and sweaters and thick jackets are enough for this season. Quite different from north China, the city becomes a sea of flowers in this season. It is an excellent time for the flower-lovers to visit.

Emblem: The emblem design of the Games is inspired by a time-honored legend about the city. Long ago, this region of Guangzhou suffered from a horrible famine, but the local people could do nothing. So, they prayed to the heavens sincerely. At this moment, five immortals wearing colorful coats and riding on rams descended from the heaven to this region. They gave ears of rice to the people and blessed the region from famine for ever. Finally, the immortals returned to sky, but left the five rams which turn into stone. The people sowed the ears of rice in the earth and got a bumper harvest every year. Thereupon, the city is also well-known as the City of Rams and the City of Ears. Currently, people could find a Statue of Five Rams in the Yuexiu Park, Guangzhou, which has been one of the city's landmarks.
The emblem's shape just imitates the contour of the Five Rams Statue, which is also a contour of the Asian Games torch. The soft, vibrant and elegant design is a combination of the concrete and the abstract. It combines the soul of the city and the Asian Games perfectly.
Mascots: Le Yangyang is the name of the 16th Asian Games Mascots. It is also the leader's name of these five sporty and cute rams. The other four rams are called A Xiang, A He, A Ru and A Yi, all of which make up of a good Chinese wish to Asian people—Xiang He Ru Yi Le Yang Yang. It means Peace, Harmony and Great Happiness, with everything going as you wish.
Le Yanyang—A handsome and confident ram. Its color is from the yellow ring of the five Olympic Rings. Yellow is also the color of the ears of rice, namely Guangzhou City.
A Xiang—A sincere and brave ram. Its color is from the blue ring of the five Olympic Rings. Blue also refers to the Pearl River running across the city, representing the mild, kind and comprehensive local citizens.
A He—An artless, modest, serenity and convinced ram. Its color is from the black ring of the five Olympic Rings, representing the time-honored Lingnan Culture of this region.
A Ru—A beautiful, fashionable, smart and ardent ram. Its color is from the red ring of the five Olympic Rings, which is also the city flower—red kapok.
A Yi—A cute, lively and outgoing ram. Its color is from the green ring of the five Olympic Rings. This is the color of the lush White Cloud Mountain in the city.

...What was Guangzhou Called Before
According to historical records, Chuting was the earliest formation of present Guangzhou. It has been 2,800 years since the Chuting was first used when Chu State of the Zhou Dynasty (11th Century BC - 221BC) sent ministers there to make it submitted to Chu.
Legend on the Ram City
There had been successions of famine and crop failure in Chuting during the Zhou Dynasty. One day, five colorful auspicious clouds drifted from the South Sea, conveying five celestial beings on five celestial rams. They blessed people with ears of rice in a sheep's mouth. The five celestial beings left but the five rams stayed in Chuting, continuing to protect local people and prayed for favorable weather and a good harvest. To honor the fairies, people built 'Wuxian Guan', a Taoist temple with their sculptures, accompanied by a stone statue of the rams. Hence, the city is also known as the 'Ram City' (Yang Cheng) or 'Rice Ears City' (Sui Cheng).

When was Guangzhou established? The Qin Dynasty (221BC - 206BC) conquered Lingnan Region and established three shires. Nanhai Shire included most of Guangdong Province with Fanyu, with the present Guangzhou as the capital. The site of the small city is located around Jiucang Xiang of Cangbian Lu in the present Guangzhou. Zhaolun took over Nanhai Shire in the early Han dynasty, which absorbed the surrounding area. Then Nanyue Kingdom was established and expanded into the city.
The city walls of Guangzhou were restored a dozen of times in the Song Dynasty (960 - 1279). Middle, east and west cities were built in succession. The Ming Court (1368-1644) brought the three cities together and called them the Old City, and constructed a new one in the south, through the second expansion project in late Ming.
Is Guangzhou and Guangdong the same? The answer is No. Nowadays, Guangzhou, the provincial capital of Guangdong Province, located in south-central Guangdong.
Main Port of the Maritime Silk Road
The city has always been the political, economic and culture center of South China for more than 2,000 years. In its early years, it was a distribution center of rare tropical products.

In the Han Dynasty (206BC-220AD), Fanyu had developed commerce and advanced textile and porcelain industries and foreign exchange with overseas, using this place as a vital port. During the Tang Dynasty (618-907), it has become a world famous trading harbor with countries in the South Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean. To strengthen the foreign trade, China's earliest customs was set up there. It grew rapidly and became the largest commercial city and treaty port in China.
Since early 3rd century, it has replaced Xuwen (in Zhanjiang City) and Hepu (in Beihai City) ports, ascending the throne as the main port of the Maritime Silk Road which initiated during Qin and Han dynasties until Quanzhou overshadowed it from late Song to Yuan (1279 - 1368). However, it recovered and was the only open port under the policy of isolation in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

Most customers from Synotrip contact me whether to be their tour guide and interpreter during the new year .I was born in Guangzhou ,my hometown is Guangzhou, I know the culture of Guangzhou and Guangdong the best, that's why so many clients choose me to their interpreter.
One of clients contact me from Synotrip, now we become friends. He is obsess with chinese martial art and Bruce Lee, so he decide to come to China to follow the step of martial idol.
He ask me to plan a “discovery of martial art” trip for him. No doubt that Foshan, which is renowned for its martial art form, is the best place to him. In fact, the city of Foshan can be called the birth place and home town of this particular martial art form. The notable celebrity are Ip Man, Bruce Lee, and Wang Fei Hong who is a legendary martial art master and doctor and seldom foreigner know him.
We plan to visit Ip Man memory hall in Ancestral Temple first, after that, go to Bruce Lee ancestor house. Actually, we can go Ancestral Temple by metro from Guangzhou. There is a Guangfo line connected Guangzhou and Foshan, which it is more convenience for the people of two city. But considering the distance from Guangzhou East to Foshan, tight schedule, and the place of Bruce Lee ancestor house is a remote village hard to get there by public transportation, we decided to rent a car for traveling.
My friend arrived at about 9:30 am at Guangzhou East station, and after picking him up we headed to Ancestral Temple. The Foshan Ancestral Temple is commonly called Zumiao. It is a Daoist temple, museum, and exhibition center. The architecture, decor and articles on view in Foshan Ancestral Temple are remarkably refined, and are part of the unique historical heritage of Foshan.
Because my friend is a martial art fans, so we directly to the Ip Man memory hall.Ip man, a man dedicated to a Wing Chun, is a famous Chinese martial art master, had been a master of Bruce Lee. Bruce Lee learn Wing Chun and develop it in his Jeet Kune Do. In the museum, you can see a likeness of Ip Man, martial arts training equipment, and a plaque with information about him.
There is another memory hall for famous legendary martial artist and doctor named Wang Fei Hong. In this place,we also see a chinese traditional customs performance ---lion dance.
We are so deep addicted to enjoying the time in the Ip Man hall and lion dance without noticing that it comes to the afternoon. We need to head to next place - Bruce Lee Ancestor House, which it take one hour to arrive from temple.
Bruce Lee who is considered by many as the most influential martial artist of the 20th century, and an important cultural icon. He used Wing Chun, as his base, learned from the influences of other martial arts, and later created his own martial art philosophy — Jeet Kune Do.
The Bruce Lee Ancestral House located in Jun'an Town is another site for Bruce Lee fans to visit.Built by his grandfather, Lee came back to the house once and lived in the house for only a few days. Even though we only just saw the furniture and the introduction of him and his family, we still felt exciting stand a place which Bruce had been lived.
We spent a great day to feel the martial art culture and gorgeous historical building in Foshan. My friend is pretty good impressed and said that he must would share this experience to his martial art friend when he go back to UK.
