Wudaoying Hutong

Wudaoying Hutong is an old lane stretching from Yonghegong Lama Temple Street in the east to Andingmen Inner Street in the west. Meanwhile, it connects with Jianchang Hutong in the south. Wudaoying Hutong, which is 632 meters long and 6 meters wide, has 69 courtyards, making itself the first choice for visitors to have a rest and seek serenity after visiting the Yonghegong Lama Temple. At first glance, it looks like Nanluogu Alley, and after walking around, you'll feel the difference between the two. Wudaoying tends to be more serene and artful.

Wudaoying was settled in Chongjiaofang and was formerly known as Wude Weiying. It was there since Zhu Di, Emperor Taizu of the Ming Dynasty, built the capital in ancient Beijing. It is said to be the barracks station of the Ming Dynasty defending the city. It was renamed "Wudaoying" in the Qing Dynasty, and then was renamed "Wudaoying Hutong" in 1965 when the official rectification was implemented.

Wudaoying Hutong has now been positioned as a lane featuring tourism, leisure and cultural experience. Due to the well-maintained appearance and pleasant environmental conditions, many people choose to start business here. There are many cultural stores, including diverse creative shops, tranquil cafes, exquisite handicraft workshops, cat-themed handmade porcelain shops, and elegant vegetarian restaurants, which can be seen everywhere in this place.

The shop owners on both sides have planted abundant characteristic green plants, which make a pleasant shade in summer while boasting reddish leaves in autumn. A huge copper bell is hanging at the top of Beijing Bell Tower called "the King of Ancient Bells". The sound it makes is bright, mellow and powerful, which can be heard from a long distance away. How was it cast? It is said that a long time ago, there was an iron bell in the tower, but it was not resonant enough. So the emperor called all the artisans together and ordered them to cast another magnificent bell. However, three years past and the artisans still hadn’t finished it. The emperor was so annoyed that he beheaded the supervising eunuch and ordered the artisans to finish the bell within 80 days, or they would all be beheaded.

  Firstly, you'll have a visit to the charming Beihai Park to appreciate the beautiful White Pagoda and the Nine-Dragon Screen. Later you will take a rickshaw to visit the most famous Hutongs keeping the original layout in the Gulou area. During this Hutong Tour You will visit a local family and experience what their life is like. Lunch will be arranged at a local family. If you like, you can learn to cook some Chinese dumplings by yourself.

  After lunch, you will move on to the majestic Lama Temple. It is the largest and best-preserved lamasery in Beijing. Then, you will walk 10 minutes to the Confucius Temple- where emperors of the past worshiped Confucius, as well as the Imperial College at Guozijian- an ancient imperial colleague for high-ranking scholars in history.  After the tour, our guide will send you back to the hotel

Beihai Park is located in Northwest of the Forbidden City,  is one of the oldest and most authentically preserved imperial gardens in China. It has a history of 1000 years.
Beihai has existed throughout the Liao, Jin, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. Most of the buildings now standing were constructed during Emperor Qianlong's regin in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911 A.D.).

Drum Tower is a famous center that give the right time during the Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties.

Nanluoguxiang is one of the oldest neighborhoods, among one of the oldest hutongs around and has a history of over 800 years. The  800-meter long North-South alleyway is filled with bars, cafes, restaurants, artsy little shops, souvenir shops and cute boutiques. It's worth to spend two walking through the little alley ways and hutong around it.
