Guiyuan Temple is located on Cuiwei Street in Hanyang district. It is one of the four biggest Buddhist temples in Hubei Province. It boasts a unique and immense collection of Buddhist doctrine among Buddhist temples. The temple features fine architecture, excellent sculptures and rich collections of Buddhist sutras and treasures. The temple was originally built in 1658 by two monks named Baiguang and Zhufeng.

The temple is divided into five courtyards, covering an area of 20,000 sq meters (4.94 acres). It consists of three halls: Mahavira Hall, Arhat Hall, and the Sutra Collection Pavilion.
Mahavira Hall is the main hall of the temple. The sculptures of Sakyamuni and his disciples are enshrined in this hall. A group of Guan-yin and Buddhist sculptures are situated behind Sakyamuni.

Arhat Hall is even more awe-inspiring due to its 500 sculptures. Some of the sculptures are sitting, some are standing, others are reading or contemplating, while still more are simply just happy or sad. Each of the 500 sculptures features a uinque pose and appearance which make the hall truly a mine of art.

Sutra Collection Pavilion was originally built in 1669, but was destroyed during the war with the Japanese. In 1997 a new pavilion was built on the same site, replicating the original style and dimensions.

Tourist bus No. 401 will take you down to Guiyuan Temple.

All you can eat Japanese restaurants have popped up throughout Shanghai in the past few years – some pretty good, some VERY bad.  I had been a little wary of trying out these locales since I moved here, but after Tairyo was recommended to me, I thought I would try it.  Several unsuccessful attempts at making a reservation only confirmed the initial recommendation, that this place was indeed popular and respected.  Finally, on a Friday night, a group of us went to try the RMB150 all you can eat and drink (including beer, wine, and watered down, albeit tasty sake).

We were seated in our own corner room. I would suggest trying to make reservations for 8 or more, then you’re more likely to receive your own table. We felt like we were having our own private party!  With the grill warming up and our glasses full of various types of alcohol, the stream of food began with a plate of salmon and tuna sashimi. The sashimi was very good, so good in fact, that later on that night we ordered another plate. The cook then arrived with a variety of meat, fish and veggies that he skillfully grilled up with butter and garlic.  Each time he was ready to cook another dish we would either stop him or tell him to go ahead. We only had to stop him once, as he got a little carried away with the mushrooms.  After a leisurely night, we were pleasantly full, feeling the alcohol, and ready to head out to the bars on nearby Hengshan Lu.

How to get there: Take Metro Line 1 to the Hengshan Road stop.  Exit on Hengshan Rd and head northeast for about 10 minutes.  Take a left on Dongping Lu.

Of the four most famous schools of culinery art in China (Beijing cuisine, Sichuan cuisine, Jiangsu cuisine, Guangdong cuisine), Sichuan cuisine boasts tongue-numbing, hot, delicate and fresh taste and a variety of flavors, as "each dish has its unique taste and no two dishes have the same flavor." Such spcial flavors as fish-flavored, gongbao (with peanuts), and water-boiled are incomparable at home and abroad.
