island6 Arts Center (Chinese:六岛艺术中心) is a not-for-profit, artist-run space in Shanghai, P.R.C. founded in 2006 by French curator/artist Thomas Charvériat. island6's mission is to provide a forum for contemporary artists whose works explore social, aesthetic, and philosophical issues using multimedia art such as performance, sound, photography and video. The artists collaborate with engineers to extract a moment from crazy, 21st Century Shanghai and slow it down to an isolated existence in electronic art that can mesmerize, if not hypnotize, and be enjoyed and examined repeatedly and eternally. island6 Arts Gallery is located in 50 Moganshan Lu, a well-known art district near the Shanghai Railway Station.

Mawangdui Han Tombs

The tombs followed a mixture of Western Han Dynasty and Chu burial practices. The tombs were made of large cypress planks. The outside of the tombs were layered with white clay and charcoal; white clay layering was a practice that originated with Chu burials, while charcoal layering was a practice that was followed during the early western Han Dynasty in the Changsha area. The tombs contained nested lacquered coffins, a Chu burial custom. The tombs also followed the burial practices dictated by Emperor Wen of Han, containing no jade or precious metals. Provincial Museum

This museum has a collection of more than 110,000 objects, over 763 of which are top grade cultural relics. Most of these objects were discovered by archaeological excavation. What's more, the museum has gathered together nearly all the fine works unearthed in different parts of Hunan Province. According to the various textures, the cultural relics in Hunan Provincial Museum can be classified into the following kinds: bronze, silk paintings and books, lacquers, textiles, ceramics, paintings and calligraphy.

Peony Pavilion(Mu Dan Ting, 牡丹亭）is the most famous masterpiece representative of Kunqu opera, one of Four Kunqu Classics, also famous as Four Dreams of Yuming Hall(玉茗堂四梦), and the other three are Cichai Ji, Handan Ji and Nanke Ji. It is a most famous play created by Tang Xianzu of Ming Dynasty. It is also an outstanding romantic work in history of opera.

In the end of Yuan Dynasty, Gu Sui, a famous founder of Kunqu Opera, improved the original vocal system popularizing around Kunshan, so it was called Vocals of Kunshan or Kunshan Qiang. It was the original Kunqu opera. In Ming Dynasty, the outstanding dramatist Wei Liangfu renovated and upgraded the vocal rule and singing style of Kunshan Qiang, and learned a lot from Haiyan Vocals and Yiyang Vocals as well as absorbed many good points of Northern Opera when he continued to spread the merits of Kunqu in the aspect of elegance and grace. So historically, Kunqu was also called Shuimoqiang(水磨腔). Liang Chenyu, a native of Kunshan, succeeded the achievements of Wei Liangfu, continued to do some research and reform to Kunqu Opera in the aspect of singing style and playing of musical instruments. It is a milestone in the development history of Kunqu Opera.
