The historical Kamyanets-Podilskyi (‘a little stone’) is the unique city-fortress in the world, located on the peninsula, an area of which is 121 hectares. It is surrounded by the river Smotrich with the high canyon. Kamyanets is the administrative, political, economic and cultural center of Podillya more than five hundred years. Since the 14th c. up to the end of the 18th c. the city was famous as the main boundary city-fortress of Eastern Poland which was impossible to conquer. You will enjoy the magnificence of the Old Fortress, its corridors and towers, the view of the whole city. Except of the historical points, it attracts the tourist because of the different entertainments and nice night illumination.
The Khotin fortress is 30 km from Kamyanets. Founded by Ukrainian dukes of Kyiv Rus, since the 14th c. it was under Moldavian, Ottoman, Polish, Russian and Romanian rule. The influence of different nations is noticed in the architectural miracle and the mentality of the citizens.
Situated in the picturesque valley of the river Dniester, many centuries Khotin fortress was the witness of numerous battles, tragic defeats and glory victories. The world-known war of Khotin of 1621 became the most important battle of Ukrainian Cossacks and Poles against Turks.
Nowadays Khotin fortress belongs to the seven wonders of Ukraine.
