When traveling in Sichuan province you will likely be riding many buses. Sichuan’s railway system is rather incomplete when compared with other provinces in the east of China. Xinnanmen bus station is Chengdu’s most important bus station. Two to three buses depart every hour for major nearby tourist attractions such as the Great Buddha at Leshan (1.5 hours) and Emei Mountain (2 hours). There are also buses to more distant popular destinations such Jiuzhaigou (10-11 hrs), Kangding (7-9 hrs), and Daocheng (a few days!). A bus schedule is listed below. For those who can read Chinese, check out www.xinnanmen.com.
Directions: The Xinnanmen Bus Station is right next to the Traffic Hotel on the south side of the Jinjiang river. You can buy tickets in the terminal on the corner of Linjiang Zhonglu and Xinnan Lu. All taxi drivers should know "Xin Nan Men" (新南门).

Chengdu’s buses are somewhat sweaty and crowded, especially at rush hours. However, at only Y1 per ride, Y2 for double deckers, they are certainly an affordable means of transportation. The no. 16 and 99 buses are the most useful, travelling north/south on Renmin Lu between Chengdu’s north and south railway stations. Try to pick up an English city map at your hostel/hotel or one of the foreign language book stores. There is one at the intersection of the south 1st ring road and Kehua Beilu. These maps have a complete listing of bus routes.
Other useful bus routes:
No. 303: Running between the airport and Min Shan Hotel (right downtown)
No. 35: Running east/west along the north side of the Fuhe river, through downtown
No. 1: Running between the central shopping district and the Wuhou Temple area
No. 334, 335: Running along somewhat of a southwest - northeast line through the center of the city. Starting on the east side of town, these two bus routes pass by the Hemp House, the south end of Chunxi Lu, crosses Renmin Nanlu, and then head towards the Wuhou Temple area.

Giant pandas definitely are the best calling card and trademark of Chengdu. Every year, million of people are attracted by giant pandas to spend their holidays here, go sightseeing here, make investment here and even settle here permanently. The reason is that for people around the world, the charm of giant pandas cannot be replaced by anything else.
Various kinds of wonderful food shall be another reason attracting you to visit Chengdu. Of the four most famous schools of culinery art in China (Beijing cuisine, Sichuan cuisine, Jiangsu cuisine, Guangdong cuisine), Sichuan cuisine boasts tongue-numbing, hot, delicate and fresh taste and a variety of flavors, as "each dish has its unique taste and no two dishes have the same flavor." Such spcial flavors as fish-flavored, gongbao (with peanuts), and water-boiled are incomparable at home and abroad.
"The teahouses in Sichuan top the world, and those in Chengdu Top Sichuan." This widespread saying not only points out the status of Chengdu's teahouses but also the inseverable ties between Chengdu culture and tea. Like bars in Paris and cafes in Vienna, teahouse add a touch of refinement and leisureliness to Chengdu, an ancient yet modern metropolis. The practice of driking tea prevailed in Sichuan as earlt as prior to the Qin and Han Dynasties.
