The Boyana church is a medieval Bulgarian Orthodox church situated at the foot of the Vitosha Mountains, in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. In 1979, the building was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The church was built on different stages: in the 10th, 13th and 19th c. In the yard of the church is the grave of one of the last Bulgarian queens: Eleonora. She protected the church from desctruction in the 19th c. Next to the grave is a one hundred year old tree, imported by the Bulgarian king in the past from North America. Our king Ferdinand was keen on botany.

The church is famous with its frescoes, painted by an unknown local painter. You can see the miracles of St Nicolas inside and the famous Last Supper.

Besides they have daily vegetarian menu, offering groovy Balkan dishes as well as North African, Mediterranean and Middle Eastern flavors. good taste for music, this artsy joint makes one always wanting to come back. Sofia is the capital city of Bulgaria. The name comes from Greek language and means wisdom. Today this is the biggest city in Bulgaria with approximately 2 mln people. It is one of the oldest capital cities in Europe. The main attractions are located in the city centre and can easily be seen with a walking tour. Among the main sights are: Alexander Nevsky cathedral, St Sophia church, The National theatre, the Russian church, the Parliament, the governmental buildings and the Statue of Sofia.

If you want to see more of the city, you need transport. Worth a visit are the Boyana church, the Bells monument, the National History Museum, The Museum of Socialist art, the residential areas, built during communism.
