Panagia Episkopi

Panagia Episkopi is a church located in the Episkopi Gonia vilage. This Byzanitne church was founded by the Emperor Alexius I Comnenus in the 11th century. Besides the valuable frescoes the church also houses one of the priceless icons, the icon of Panagia Glikofilousa. History and art lovers admire the Panagia Episkopi because of its Byzantine paintings and hagiography. During its 1000 years old history the chuch did not only survived many invasions by the Venetians, Francs, Russians and Turks but also fires and a strong earthquake occurred in 1956.
