The Yi ethnic dragon-worship in Mengzi

Yi ethnic people in Mengzi area, Honghe Prefecture, underlie the sacrifice-offering ceremony for the dragon in order to pray for favourable weather conditions, bumper harvests and thriving livestock.

Many old Yi ethnic villages all have their own holy "Dragon Tree" and "Dragon Mountain".

Presided over by Bimo (priest), the sacrificial ceremony usually falls on the first zodiac dragon day of lunar February, and villagers would always slaughter pigs to prepare sacrifices. Meanwhile, the ceremony is also organised to enact and eulogise ethic norms for villagers.
