Nisu ethnic costumes

Nisu is a Yi ethnic branch living in Mengzi City of Honghe Prefecture; their traditional costumes are simply succinct and bright, which is believed to have much to do with their production, lifestyle, disposition, aesthetics and dwelling environment.

There hides a legend in each article of their traditional wear, including embroidered apron, cockscomb-like hat, tiger-headed shoes, red cloak, and the Sun-like patterns on collars etc.

In the long course of history, the Yi ethnic culture has been assimilated by other ethnic cultures, but it still conserves its own characteristics which can be best proved by the traditional ethnic costumes. However, many have changed in some aspects such as the style and texture, resulting in diverse costumes of different Yi ethnic branches.

Nowadays, the Nisu ethnic ladies have gotten used to wearing: turbans with projectures (on both sides) braided from pink or green towels; pink or green gowns; laced trousers; and embroidery apron with streamers.
