Dai ethnic dances

In the Dai language, "dance" is referred to as "Fan", and folk dances of the Dai ethnic group include Fannannuo, Fanguanghan, Fanguang, Hafan, and Fanzheng etc.

Fannannuo

When transliterated, it means "‘Princess Bird’ Dance" which features imitating actions of bird species. Many pros are decorated with feathers, and the dance is normally accompanied with different drums. Fannannuo dances include peacock dance, egret dance, and turtledove dance etc, among which the peacock dance is best-known

Fanguanghan

It is translated as “Golden Deer Dance”, featuring imitation of the actions of animals such as deer. The pro also looks like deer and can be worn by one or more dancers. Other dances include lion dance, and elephant dance etc.

Fanguang

It is actually drum dance. A dancer is not only the dancer, but the music player. As a kind of mass dance, it is only confined to men. Fanguang dances include Gaguang drum dance, elephant-foot drum dance, and big-drum dance etc.

Hafan, Singing and dancing

It is a kind of mass dance of the Dai people combining singing and dancing. Many other single Dai ethnic dances have been transformed to this kind of drama-like performance. And it is usually staged at celebrations and festivals.

Fanzheng, "marshal arts" dance

Mixing dance and marshal arts, it includes boxing dance, cudgel dance, and sword dance etc. And accompanying musical instruments include drums, gongs, and cymbals etc.
