The three "road blocks" of the Jingpo wedding

On the way the Jingpo ethnic bride is received to the groom's house, the bride has to pass "three road blocks" which are set up by kids with tree branches, bamboos, and discarded fences etc. Each pass is "guarded" by several kids.

The first block is "guarded" by some young girls. One of the bridal maids will be in charge of serving wines and offering candies to these guards; and some other maids will "escort" the bride to pass the block secretly.

The second block is guarded by some young boys, and similar things in the first block will be done.

The third is guarded by some kids aged three or four.

Different blocks are “passed” by different ways, but all of them are aimed to confer best wishes to the bride.

In some places, before the bride is received into the groom’s house, people will plant banana trees near the gate, meaning the family will thrive in the future. Sometimes sugar canes are planted likewise, meaning the life will better off.
