THE UNKNOWN ROMAN ANCIENT CITADEL OF ADAMCLISI

Overshadowed by the much bigger and more important ancient Roman settlements of Tomis, Histria and Callatis, Adamclisi (60 km south -west of the Romanian city Constanta) remains a hidden gem of Roman antiquity at the Black Sea.

The municipium was built at the beginning of the 2nd century A.D. after a bloody battle was won on the site by Roman Emperor Traian against the stubborn and unsubdued local population of Dacians. On the occasion, Traian commissioned the building of an impressive monument to show the military supremacy of Rome, a monument that still attracts visitors to the place today. Not far, the remains of the municipium Tropaeum Traiani, which was built after the battle, reveal a flourishing Roman colony with an impressive 12 m - wide via principalis and an once busy and crowded basilica forensis - the local forum.

Last but not least, a museum of archaeology completes the list of things to see on the premises. The museum is the proud depositary of the original stone blocks adorned with amazing depictions the fierce battle between Romans and Dacians, with Emperor Traian saluting his new subjects.

The Only Romanian Type of Coffee – “Marghiloman” now in Constanta at The Coffee Shop
The coffee with the name of a prime-minister is the only type of coffee invented in Romania and it was the favourite coffee at the high life coffee shops and restaurants in Bucharest after WWI.
The name comes from Alexandru Marghiloman (1854 – 1925), Romanian politician and former prime-minister of the Conservative Party who was very fond of the brown drink and its revitalizing effects. Legend has it that, while out hunting with his friends, Marghiloman asked his butler for a cup of coffee. Out of water, the butler had to improvise and used cognac to make the coffee. This is how “marghiloman” coffee was born. Typically Romanian, this coffee is a mixture of Turkish and French influences – the essence of Romania at the turn of the century. It is actually Turkish coffee boiled with French cognac instead of water. Sometimes Jamaican rum can be used.
Very soon this special mixture caught on – politicians and intellectuals used to drink it at expensive restaurants in Bucharest such as Capsa or Hanul lui Manuc. It is served in small cups called “filigeana”. Today you can also drink it in Constanta.

Driving from Constanta through the majestic landscapes of the Carpathians ( apprs. 352 km) and stop at the Royal Castle of Peles , in Sinaia . Continue road drive to Busteni , Predeal and Brasov . Walking to the narrow medieval streets - Rope street is one of them - of the historical centre, admire the famous "Black Church", the old Council Square , etc.The day end with dinner in old city center . Next day , we get ready to visit the renowned Dracula ( Bran ) Castle looking for the truth behind Romania's most famous legend - Dracula , and investigate the legend that put Transylvania on the world map. Three stops on the way to Bran : first to admire Brasov from up , 2nd in Poiana Brasov - the most famous romanian winter sports resort and 3rd to visit Rasnov fortress . After visit Bran Castle we take lunch in area ( Bran Vila resort ) , than drive back to Constanta ( apprs. 400 km ) .

06.45 - 11.30 - drive to Sinaia (convenience stop on the way, opportunity for coffee/ refreshments )

11.30 - 13.30 - visit of Peles Castle, walk in the gardens .

13.30 - 16.00 - drive to Brasov . Photo`s stops in Busteni , Azuga , Predeal . Continue to Brasov , check - in at hotel .

18.00 - Walking tour of Brasov (Council Square, Schei District, Ecaterina Gate, Jewish Sinagogue, Black Church). Day ends with dinner at one of the local restaurants .

DAY 2

07.15 - 08.00 breakfast .

08.15 - departure towards Bran Castle (Dracula's Castle) via Poiana Brasov. Short photo`s stop at bellvue platform over Brasov , photo`s stop in Romania's most famous skiing resort, Poiana Brasov , stop to visit Rasnov fortress .

11.00 - 14.30 visit of Dracula's Castle and free time for souvenir shopping with the local vendors , lunch , cofee , refreshments

15.30 - 20.30 Drive from Bran back to Constanta via Paraul Rece .

CONSTANTA PAST AND PRESENT - CITY TOUR

This tour helps you connect the dots of the eclectic city Constanta is today. From the exquisite marble statues and artifacts of the Greek and Roman heritage to the unprecedented development of the city at the end of the 19th century and the complete redesign of the communist period – you need a local to make sense of it all.

We begin our tour with a visit to the Archaeological Museum and then move next door to see the remains of the ancient Roman mosaics. We follow Ovid, the unfortunate poet who found his end here, and find out his sad story. We continue our tour with a walk in the streets of the historical district of Constanta and slowly reach the promenade and its romantic Casino and Genovese lighthouse at the Black Sea, the landmarks of the city.
