I visited Xian with my 2 teenage daughters last August. Michael was our guide. He organised everything for us. He is really fluent in English which is not so common in China .He knows very well his area and all the history related to it as well as very nice local places where he can take you for lunch. My wife and me had made a tour to Xian in the time between 30.March to 5. April 2013. Michael was really a perfect guide: Good organisation, explaining and leading with deep knowledge through all the terracotta armies and tombs and fast and safe transportation with his own car. We really can recommend him and will not hesitate to ask him again.

We couldn't have been happier with Michael's services. His English is great and his understanding of Eastern and Western culture is on point (which is important because otherwise the guide can't explain things in a way you understand). We also used his services for airport pickup, which although a little more expensive than a taxi was well worth it. We were in Xi'an for a conference and actually got to see the Warriors twice; once with our conference group and another with Michael. We came away from our conference tour not understanding anything, and our conference guide was terrible. It wasn't until we visited the sites with Michael that we really understood the historical and cultural significance of Xi'an. My wife and I (and our infant son) would all highly recommend his services.

We located Michael while browsing TripAdvisor.

Contacted him by email and got his details.

Everything he told us was spot on. Spoke English well; was a good and patient driver;went out of his way to make our visit toXi'an memorable.

He had a good knowledge of  where we went and places to see.

Our trip was to be to the Animal Rescue and Research facility about 125k from Xian. Unfortunately when we got there they had decided to close the facility because of the crowds over the holiday break, so as to give the pandas a rest!!!!

Not to worry. We saw rural China at its finest; had lunch with a local family in their home. (12 courses for 60 yuan ); went to the 2013 Expo site where we saw pandas, and other endangered species.

All in all a great trip.

It was easy to contact Michael by email from the U.S.  We negotiated a daily rate for four people that included a separate driver and van.  Michael arrived at our hotel on the morning we arranged.  He was courteous and speaks perfect English.  THe van even was stocked with bottled water and cold drinks!   His knowledge of Chinese history is superb.  We spent the entire day from 8:30 am until 6:00 pm at night.  He showed us around the Terra Cotta Warriors museums and it was much better than most of the other tours that drop you off and you're on your own.  THen we visited the Pagoda and even had time to ride bikes around the City Wall.  That was why we hired a private guide.  Most tours do not allow enough time for you to do this.  It was well worth it.  The cost was reasonable when split between four people.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Michael if you're looking for a great guide and a overall nice person!!
