My name is Selina Chen. I was born and raised in Xiamen. I love travelling and I always enjoy my journey. I am a caring and honest English-Chinese freelance interpreter. I also work as a tour guide, sourcing agent and as a business assistant in and outside Xiamen. I have worked full-time in a number import and export organizations and have obtained necessary professional acknowledgment with regards to stones and art craft. I was a bit nervous to connect with a tour guide abroad as a solo female traveler, but Selina actually was a blessing. I ended up booking her as a tour guide for the day in Xiamen and I arrived at 6am. She picked me up with a taxi first thing and asked what I wanted/liked to do and I told her I wanted to see the island, a couple temples and the food markets. We headed to Gulangyu island for the morning (but first pork puns and starbucks!) and then came back for lunch and toured some of the temples and then toured the street food markets for hours and it was SERIOUSLY the best. I was in love with trying a bunch of food and it was SO helpful to have someone that could communicate easily (there are not too many people that speak english in China). I had the best time and I'm so glad I booked her because I got to do so much in just the 12 hour layover that I had and most importantly felt so safe. Thank you, Selina! We had a day in Xiamen and Selina took my kids and I around the city. Prior to the trip, Selinda and I already discussed on what's app where we wanted to go and she made the necessary booking for the ferry tickets in advance. Upon arrival, Selina promptly picked us up at the airport and took us to take a cab to the pier to get to Gulangyu. The taxi driver went the wrong way and Selina made sure the taxi driver didn't overcharge us. After arriving in Gulangyu, Selina took us around the island to see the sites and gave us a bit of background about the history. After a few hours, we headed back to Xiamen city, where she took us for a bit of shopping. At that time, my daughter requested to make pottery. Selina was very proactive in searching online for somewhere where we can satisfy her request. After a long day, Selina sent us back to the airport by taxi. All in all, we were very satisfied with her service. Would highly recommend anyone who needs to have a local guide who speaks perfect English. Read less

I wanted to see the Tulou outside of Xiamen (the very old round three or four story buildings) and contacted a number of tour guides on other sites and a week later I haven't heard from any of them, but I am very lucky! She responded very quickly (in minutes) !!! good thing I didn't wait for any other guides to respond from other sites! I was staying in Central Xiamen and was provided with easy instructions to meet at the North train station and told how to take the new subway (yes, new subway that some of the locals don't even know about, but my tour guide knew all this info) She researched how we could get to the Tulou in the limited time that I had and negotiated a great deal with a driver at the train station! The tour was great and she was always attentive to my needs. If you are traveling to Xiamen and need a guide (or want to see the tulous) I highly recommend her! Read less

While we had emailed bach and forth, my understanding was that Selina made herself available on the day our boat arrived in Xiamen. Reconfirming a few days prior to our cruise departure, perhaps due to a lack of clarity in the emails, she said she was unavailable that day. Upon insisting however, she made good by booking ferry tickets to Galangyu Island ahead of time and referring another freelance guide for our group of four. The best thing was to talk to her or chat on the WhatApp. She was very helpful in coordinating information to our alternate guide as our boat could not reach Xiamen port due to heavy fog until 3:00PM in the afternoon. We were on the Majestic Princess and I booked a tour with Selina for Xiamen. She was always very prompt in replying to my emails and the group of us had a great day. We really felt we got to see so much of Xiamen, using the ferry, and buses. Selina took us to a fantastic local Chinese restaurant for lunch. Would highly recommend Selina for any tours you may do in Xiamen. Read less

We visited Xiamen during our cruise with Royal Caribbean “Ovation of the Seas” in June 2016. Since shore excursions with the ship are expensive and always in a big group, we decided to book Selina as our private tour guide to show us some highlights of Xiamen and the island of Gulangyu.

Selina is a great tour guide. She took care of everything and was very informative and helpful – in a country where you can not read and understand anything (unless you are or speak Chinese ). Several weeks before our cruise, we often contacted her via e-mail and Whatsapp and we worked out a plan for our limited time we had in Xiamen. She always replied quickly .

As promised she was waiting outside the ship holding a sign with our name. She took care of the ferry tickets and was helping us skipping the lines and bypassing the Sunday crowds and brought us to Gulangyu very quickly before all the user cruise ship groups arrived. There she organized a golf cart that transported us over the island. Piano museum and Shuzhuang Garden was a nice place to visit – she also explained the history of that area.

Back in Xiamen we visited a nice authentic Chinese restaurant, she helped us with money exchange and we went out geocaching. Nanputuo temple also was an impressive place, before we headed back to the cruise ship in the afternoon.

We can absolutely recommend Selina as a private tour guide for cruise ship shore excursions. She’s very reliable, helpful and uncomplicated and she speaks fluent and good English (better than we do).
